25.01.2022 Plumbing work has finally begun on the site where a new shed is being built in the CQU grounds for the Rockhampton Men's Shed. The Foundation gave Grant funding in 2019 for this project, but there have been countless delays with the weather and Covid-19, so the project has taken a bit longer than first thought. The completion of this shed is going to mean so much to the members of the RMS with so much more room for activities and socialising. Well done everyone, and we are proud to have been able to assist you

22.01.2022 Another recipient of an Iwasaki Foundation Charitable Grant is the Emu Park & District Mens Activity Shed Inc. In 2019 the group built a second shed with funding from the Gambling Community Benefit fund and their own fundraising money, and then applied for a grant from the Foundation to erect security fencing, concrete walkways and entrance pads. The Mens Shed group are blessed with a wonderful amount of space for their sheds, and the security fencing now erected was an absol...ute necessity to ensure all their materials are safe. The concreting also means easy access between the existing and new shed, as well as access around both buildings. President Ross Manderson stands proudly in front of the new shed below, and you can also see the amount of fencing that went up to secure the area in the other pics. He and the committee now eagerly await the lifting of restrictions to allow them to welcome men back into the fold, and get back to what they do best! See more

21.01.2022 The Yeppoon Men's Shed is back in business!! And the guys couldn't be happier because they get to play with their new toy - a Thicknesser - purchased from a recent Grant from the Foundation. So it's out with the old, and in with the new machine. I'm so glad it's finally out of the box

19.01.2022 On Sept 9th the ceremony for the dedication of the newly completed Rocky Men's Shed Assoc. first shed was held. Iwasaki Foundation Chairman Desley Rial, and Grants Sub-committee Chair, Vicki Bastin-Byrne attended where the new shed was christened the IWASAKI FOUNDATION SHED. We are so proud and happy to have been involved with this wonderful project. An article appeared in the Sept 17 edition of CQ Today covering the ceremony and is also on the CQU website.

18.01.2022 Iwasaki Foundation Directors and Bursary recipients gathered this morning for a get together morning tea at the foundation office. It was wonderful to hear how well our bursary holders are progressing in their chosen studies.

17.01.2022 What a happy bunch of dedicated people. So proud to be a part of the whole program. If you become a volunteer you will change your life for the better

17.01.2022 I thought I would share a couple of photos of this beautiful and gracious lady, Mrs. Yoshie Iwasaki. Yoshie [now deceased] was the wife of the founder of the Resort in Yeppoon, Mr. Yohachiro Iwasaki [also deceased]. In 1985, a grant of capital from the estate of Yoshie Iwasaki was used to establish The Iwasaki Foundation. The original Directors of the Foundation invested the money very wisely in the early years, and managed to grow the capital to a substantial amount. Now th...e Foundation runs entirely on income generated from the increased capital. It is my privilege and honour to work for such an amazing Foundation that supports so many in our community See more

16.01.2022 On Sunday morning Oct 11th at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club, the Cycling Without Age-Yeppoon Chapter launched the first of their trishaws, which will be used to take the elderly and immobile seniors in our community for scenic rides along chosen pathways on the Capricorn Coast. You can check out their Facebook page for the different routes available. The Iwasaki Foundation funded a Grant to purchase two trishaws, with the second one currently on its way from Denmark [the only... place in the world currently making the specialised trishaws]. The first official passenger was 82 yr old Mr. John Suthers [accompanied by his granddaughter] who because of ill health has not been close to the ocean for 3 years. He was taken along the beachfront to the Surf Club and it was a very emotional scene with nature turning on a spectacular day for him...and us!! Attached photos show Foundation members - Chairman Desley Rial, Secretary Hugh Grant and Grant Sub-committee Chair Vicki Bastin-Byrne at the launch; the wonderful volunteers who have worked tirelessly to get things underway; Mr. John Suthers taking the first official ride; and the wonderful Mary O'Donnell who is the driving force behind the project. 16.01.2022 A special graduation day for another one of our bursary recipients, Kylie McAlister.

15.01.2022 On Tuesday March 16th, an Annual Morning Tea was held by the Order of Australia Association at the Frenchville Leagues Club, to pay tribute to all those in the region who have received Order of Australia honours over the years. Two of our very own Foundation Directors were among those present. Secretary Hugh Grant OAM, L.LB - having held his award for several years; and one of two new award recipients for 2021, Chairman Desley Rial OAM. We are very proud of all our Directors and their individual achievements, but these two wonderful people make us extra proud.

15.01.2022 Finally the Rocky Men's Shed have everything in place to pour the concrete for their two new sheds and it should be finished this week!! The Grant they received from the Foundation in 2019 has been a long time getting to completion with interruptions from the weather and that-which-shall-remain-nameless! But slowly things are getting underway and the Guys can't wait for their new digs to be finished and put to good use

13.01.2022 Margaret Neil-Ballantine and Ruebell Bickell are the lastest CQU graduates from the Iwasaki Foundation bursary program. A big congratulations from everyone at the Iwasaki Foundation! We wish them all the best with their future endeavours.

12.01.2022 The Iwasaki Foundation recently granted funding to the Yeppoon Men's Shed to place a concrete apron around their shed, and also to purchase a Thicknesser [this has been purchased but is not yet set up - watch this space!!] The concrete apron has now been completed and Co-ordinator & Director George Ganter is extremely happy with the result. The shed roof and gutters were under attack from a lovely, but very leafy gum tree which they were not given permission to remove. This... was causing damage to not only the shed roof and gutters, but also to the foundations of the building. So now, the gutters have been removed and when it rains, the leaves and water will wash off onto the apron and away from the building. Problem solved!! Another satisfied organisation having received an Iwasaki Foundation Charitable Grant See more

Application forms and Bursary guidelines can be found on our website www.iwasakifoundation.com.au We recently attended the 2020 CQU graduation ceremony where 5 of our current Bursary recipients graduated, attaining their Bachelor degrees. Without the support of our Bursary, these students may not have been able to achieve this wonderful milestone in their lives. If you think you would benefit from a Bursary - or know someone who would - please send in your application form by January 8th for consideration.

11.01.2022 Board members of the Iwasaki Foundation and our recent bursary recipient graduate from CQU, Kylie McAlister. The Iwasaki Foundation Board are so proud of our Bursary recipients who work so hard to complete their University degrees.

09.01.2022 Another of our Grant recipients for 2020 is the Multicap Qld Rockhampton Respite Centre. As you can see by the photos [before and after shots] the playground synthetic turf was looking a bit worse for wear, so our funding has allowed them to get brand new turf and they tell me it looks fantastic!! I'm sure there will be some very happy little vegemites enjoying this playground in the future

09.01.2022 Iwasaki Foundation Chair Desley Rial turns the sod for the Rockhampton Men’s Shed project at the CQU North Rockhampton Campus site. An exciting start towards the progress of a wonderful project!

08.01.2022 On behalf of the Directors of the Foundation, I would like to send virtual pats on the back to all of our Bursary students who are battling on with their studies in a changed environment. Don't forget - we are here to help - so please keep in touch And to everyone else, chin up - keep smiling - stay safe and well - and be kind to one another.

07.01.2022 This year the Foundation is celebrating 10 years of offering Tertiary Education Bursaries to financially disadvantaged students studying Bachelor Degrees in their chosen field. Since 2011 to the end of 2019, there have been 48 students offered Bursaries, with 23 having successfully graduated; 14 having withdrawn from studying for various reasons; and we currently have 11 studying including 3 new recipients that only started this year. The Bursary is offered for each year of ...the students chosen course which can be 12 months to 7 years depending on what they are studying, and is currently valued at $10,000 per year. It assists the students with accommodation, travel, uniforms, books, placement requirements, computers, phones, printers - basically anything that is necessary for them to complete their Degree. There are of course Guidelines to be followed but we try to ensure that we do all that we can to see these very deserving students reach their graduation. Applications will be open again towards the end of 2020 so please head to our website for more information. See more

06.01.2022 Iwasaki Foundation Chairman Desley Rial has received the Order of Australia Medal in yesterdays Australia Day Awards for her outstanding contribution to the Capricorn Coast through her volunteer work and support of local organisations and charities. Not content to have just one focus in her sights, Desley has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the young, aged, disabled, and everyone in-between. We are very proud of our Chairman who continues to do this work through the Foundation assisting the aged, infirm, disabled and financially needy with Grants and Bursaries. We are all very proud of Chairman Desley Rial OAM.

05.01.2022 Finally we have the completion of one shed structure for the Rockhampton Men's shed!! Been a long time coming but it looks great Now all they need is power, water and sewerage, and to complete the internal fit-out. Lots of work still to do but it will be well worth it. The Iwasaki Foundation is so pleased to have been able to help with a Charitable Grant.

03.01.2022 Exciting project for the coast.

02.01.2022 EASTER OFFICE HOURS This week the office will be open Mon, Wed & Thurs 10am to 3pm. The following week it will be open Tues, Wed & Thurs 10am to 3pm.

01.01.2022 The Iwasaki Foundation is very proud to have been able to fund a Grant to Cycling Without Age Yeppoon Chapter, for the purchase of two Trishaws, which we hope to see beetling around the Capricorn Coast once restrictions are lifted. This is just the most wonderful service for the aged, infirm and those with disabilities, to enable them to get out and about in the fresh air and have some fun along the way. What a fantastic idea!!
