22.01.2022 During this challenging time, it was delightful to come across this Community Garden on a morning walk...sharing home grown herbs and vegetables used to be a common thing of the past and it was very heartwarming to see it making a come-back. Silver Warriors and Apprentices working together to plant and grow veggies for their neighbours!! Bravo!!
22.01.2022 David Shipston, Care Manager at Banksia Lodge - thank you for chatting today. David, you were our first port-of-call in Shepp and we have appreciated the support and encouragement you have given to I Wish I’d Asked throughout the year. We were always impressed with the care and respect you offered your residents and similarly, to our project. We are really looking forward to our continued experience at Rumbalara and working with you once again. Vale and our warmest wishes, David!!
19.01.2022 Shepparton, 2020!! Great to be back!! Danny and I had a lovely day in Shepparton yesterday reconnecting with old friends and making a number of new ones. We visited Grutzner House and met Rebecca, Rachel and Cliffy. We’re really looking forward to working with the residents using VR. Can’t wait to see the joy! Thank you very much Rachel for reaching out! I’m sure we’ll have some great fun things for your residents to enjoy in the upcoming months.
19.01.2022 Sometimes we caricature older people- particularly our grandparents. They are cute, helpless, sweet and fraile. We love to drop in once in a while, have... them cook up a storm and tell them our latest achievements. Beyond their roles as caretakers, the ones who baby sat us when we were little, beyond nonna, pop, yiayia, it’s almost as if we forget what they are first and foremost; human. Complex, flawed and with so many stories to share. With loneliness and depression rates high in this population, often their stories go untold and their skills once passed down, lost. I’ve been lucky enough to meet Eva who runs an inter-generational program called I Wish I'd Asked. It tackles this issue by pairing older Australians with teenagers. Despite the generation gap, the learning and exchange of skills is invaluable. Cooking, philosophy, gardening, and even history lessons run by war vets themselves. The non profit program is a reminder to value everyone’s story, breaking down the barriers of young and old and ultimately fostering a greater understanding between groups of people. I encourage you to like their FB page in order to keep up to date with the great work they are doing in the community. If you are in the education system and feel that your class may benefit from a visit or if you’re looking to volunteer get in contact with them.
18.01.2022 It's difficult staying away from friends BUT Danny has managed to find a way to exercise and drop by for a cup of tea by the mailbox . All the while keeping his distance...as predicted via "the shovel"....it's at least 1.5 m away! We have a good laugh and then he goes on his merry way. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR DISTANCE.
17.01.2022 Australians are doing really well to ‘flatten the curve’ with their ‘social distancing’. Danny and I are also observing these rules because we value our vulnerable Silver Warriors and Apprentices (as we’re learning, the young are not immune!) Whilst you have a spare moment, jump onto our new website to be uplifted by our many smiling, Silver Warriors and Apprentices. www.iwishidasked.com.au
17.01.2022 Out for a daily walk and can still greet Danny...but only from a distance! We’re doing really well with our ‘social distancing’ and thinking of those most vulnerable - our Silver Warriors. If you have a moment to spare, jump on and visit our website. It will make you smile. www.iwishidasked.com.au
15.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS to all our Silver Warriors, Apprentices and friends!!! Danny and I send our warmest wishes to you all for a really enjoyable day with family and friends and a happy and safe holiday season!
15.01.2022 Legendary Shepparton Silver Warriors, Maureen and Tommy Hafey, with dear friend, Danny. Lovely to see you today Maureen.
14.01.2022 I Wish I’d Asked invites you to visit our website (pictured here and Link below) and enjoy the many activities with our Silver Warriors and Apprentices. They make us smile and we’re certain they will make you smile too! www.iwishidasked.com.au
10.01.2022 During these challenging days of social distancing, Danny and I keep in touch via Zoom. We still manage a laugh! Today we are launching our new website and would like to invite all our Silver Warriors, Apprentices, friends and supporters to visit the site and relive some of those wonderful moments we shared together. We would like to thank the many people who encouraged and assisted our team with the I Wish I'd Asked programme. Floyd and Aidan deserve special thanks for kicks...tarting us on our website journey. And many thanks to Melissa from Doubleclick Web Design for her patience, understanding and creative input. We hope you enjoy it! https://www.iwishidasked.com.au
09.01.2022 I know Danny LOVES parsley. Today on his walk he passed by my place, to get some fresh parsley. Since we are observing ‘social distancing’, we have become very creative in our interactions!! Australia continues to ‘flatten the curve’ and we are very grateful for that!
06.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/119817336421/posts/10157811419616422/?vh=e&d=n Thank you very much for sharing, Valentino! A beautiful and inspiring story.
05.01.2022 Kerry Short we salute you...a moving tribute to a much-loved and admired teacher. Teachers teach because they care and you, Kerry, certainly exemplify this. Danny and I thank you sincerely, for so generously embracing us and our ideas. We wish you all the very best for whatever unfolds Kerry and know that you have two friends and fans eager to hear about the next chapter! Vale for now Shorty.
04.01.2022 WOW.....this week was our 50th trip to Shepparton!!! We’re excited there are lots of new initiatives on the boil. Thank you to all the staff at Wanganui - Greg, Elizabeth, Justin, Lachlan, Cathy, Christian, Amy and Kirsten - who gave up their time to chat with us earlier in the week.
02.01.2022 Our much loved RSL Silver Warrior, Graeme Bayley (Vietnam veteran), featured in an Anzac Day commemorative service in Shepparton this morning. We are thinking of all our returned and active servicemen and women today. LEST WE FORGET To listen to some of the engaging conversations between the veterans and the Apprentices, jump online to www.iwishidasked.com.au and press on RSL Conversations.
01.01.2022 THANK YOU Ant for, together with your colleague, Lynda, coordinating a very successful meeting at McGuire College on Tuesday with Craig, Trish, Lyn and Nikki. Danny and I look forward to working with you all in the coming weeks. We were energised by your enthusiasm for the programme. It will be a lot of fun!
