25.01.2022 From slackbastard: "For those of you coming in late, ‘The Lads Society’ is a nazi groupuscule established by members of the ‘United Patriots Front’ (UPF) follo...wing its collapse in 2017. Tom Sewell, the Society’s lvl boss, is former UPF fuehrer Blair Cottrell‘s ex-flunkey and under the umbrella of ‘The Lads’, over the last three years he’s managed to gather around him several score of his fellow Hitler stans in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and elsewhere. You may remember Cottrell and Sewell from such headlines as Christchurch shooting accused Brenton Tarrant supports Australian far-right figure Blair Cottrell (Alex Mann, Kevin Nguyen and Katherine Gregory, Background Briefing, ABC, March 23, 2019) or New clues emerge of accused New Zealand gunman Tarrant’s ties to far right groups (Byron Kaye, Tom Allard, Reuters, April 4, 2019) or Threats from white extremist group that ‘tried to recruit Tarrant’ (Patrick Begley, The Sydney Morning Herald, May 2, 2019). For about a-year-and-a-half, Sewell and his boys ran a space in Cheltenham, but then lost it after sustained community pressure. In Sydney, the NSW branch operated from a location in Ashfield, but it too fell over sometime after opening in 2018. Undeterred by hostile media reportage, community opposition and links to a mass murderer, Sewell and The Lads have soldiered on and last year opened up a NEW! space in Melbourne’s south-east: ***Unit 1, 10 Hi-Tech Place, Rowville (a suburb of Melbourne 27 km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD)*** The space was leased to The Lads by GA Industrial & Commercial in July 2019 and falls within the remit of Knox City Council. Apart from meeting, talking shop and lifting weights, The Lads have also recently launched a ‘political’ project: the ‘National Socialist Network’ (NSN). Under the wise guidance of Sewell and ex-‘Antipodean Resistance’ (AR) geek Jacob Hersant, the NSN has been busy doing nazi graff, distroing nazi agitprop and generating OMGWTF headlines in May courtesy of the Herald Sun: The Lads of the NSN naturally thrilled to the article, constituting as it did little more than free advertising for the budding génocidaires. On the other hand, their adoption of the name ‘National Socialist’ does at least render it that little bit more difficult for pundits to not name the Lads ‘neo-Nazi’. \_()_/ Note that: ‘National Socialist Network’ was briefly the name given to the remnants of ‘National Action’ in the UK after it collapsed; AR was, of course, the fraternal organisation of NA; a few weeks ago, four of its members including ‘Miss Hitler’ LOL were jailed after being found guilty of belonging to NA, which was proscribed as a ‘terrorist organisation’ in 2016. 25.01.2022 The only thing that keeps the bosses greed in check is the solidarity of workers! Join the one big union today! [email protected]

23.01.2022 Tuesday, 14th July 2020 To the Victorian Trades Hall Council, You are receiving this letter on behalf of the members of the Industrial Workers of the World Melb...ourne General Membership Branch. We are writing to urge you to disaffiliate The Police Association (TPAV). Following the deployment of five hundred Victorian police officers to ‘lock down’ the residents of the nine housing commission towers in Flemington and North Melbourne - at the behest of the Andrew’s Labor Government - the IWW Melbourne GMB has moved to oppose the recognition of the Police Association as a legitimate part of the trade union movement. The IWW Melbourne GMB stands in solidarity with the Indigenous Social Justice Association - Melbourne (ISJA Melbourne), along with Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance - WAR; and RISE: Refugees, Survivors and Ex-detainees and we endorse their statement to the VTHC regarding disaffiliation with the Police Association (TPAV). The police are not workers, nor do police work to ’serve’ or ‘protect’ workers. Police work to serve and protect capital and the state, which unequivocally work to oppress Bla(c)k and Indigenous people, migrant workers and the working class as a whole. The police have historically used violent force against workers. They have broken picket lines; injured, maimed and killed striking workers during industrial disputes; and provoked violence amongst labour movements in order to justify the use of excessive force against them. Their role is at complete odds with the interests of workers’ unions. The Police Association uses its status as a ‘workers’ union to lobby the Victorian State Government for increased funding and powers to more efficiently crush labour movements and their organising. State sanctioned violence is continually and increasingly perpetrated against Bla(c)k, Indigenous, migrant, disabled, poor and marginalised communities in order to protect and uphold the capitalist profit system. They espouse union affiliation to protect themselves from accountability for their crimes or any attempt at reform. Their support and active facilitation of fascist figures and movements, as well as ample evidence of identified fascists amongst them, clearly demonstrates their aim to uphold and enforce white supremacy. The IWW Melbourne GMB stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and strongly condemns systemic racism in all its forms against our peers and comrades. We call on the Victorian Trades Council to take a stand against police brutality and disaffiliate ties with the Police Association. The police do not and CANNOT demonstrate working class solidarity, therefore we do not consent to them being a part of the broader labour movement. We look forward to your response. An injury to one is an injury to all. In Solidarity, Industrial Workers of the World - Melbourne General Membership Branch

16.01.2022 The IWW played a key role in pushing back against the conscription referendums last century. We believe then, as we did now, that no worker should fight in any war but the class war!

06.01.2022 On this day, 28 October 1916, conscription to the army in Australia during World War I was narrowly defeated in a referendum by 51% to 49%. Labor prime minister... Billy Hughes, a former union leader, had vigorously attempted to introduce conscription. He blamed the revolutionary union the Industrial Workers of the World for the defeat. The IWW had been extremely active in opposing conscription and the war. Hughes responded by banning the organisation and arresting and jailing many of its members and activists. A second referendum was held the following year, and defeated by an even bigger margin.
