22.01.2022 #ATO #PAYGI #Refunds Heads up everyone - the ATO stuffed up the PAYG Instalments - you should have received correspondence from the ATO about this. They have started refunding any amounts that are now overpaid - if you or your clients start to see odd ATO refunds hitting the bank accounts, this is what it will be for.

21.01.2022 If you’re looking at flipping burgers and running the drive-thru this summer, make sure you’re not short-changed when it comes to pay. If you’re a casual, adult (21 and over) working under the Fast Food Award, you must be paid at least $26.76 per hour. But that’s not the end of the story: You must be paid at least $32.12 for working on the weekends Your shifts need to be at least 3 hours... You get a paid ten-minute break if you work 4 or more hours as well as an unpaid meal break of between 30-60 minutes if you work more than 5 hours. If your workplace has an enterprise agreement these entitlements can change. Find out more: https://www.fairwork.gov.au//fast-food-/fast-food-industry

21.01.2022 We can reopen next week! We hope all our clients are doing ok.

21.01.2022 I'm often asked what does a BAS Agent do: BAS services BAS service is defined in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA) as:... ascertaining or advising about the liabilities, obligations or entitlements of a client under a BAS provision; or representing a client in their dealings with the Commissioner of Taxation in relation to a BAS provision; and where it is reasonable to expect a client will rely on the service to satisfy liabilities or obligations or to claim entitlements under a BAS provision. The term ‘BAS provision’ is defined in Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 as: Part VII (collection and recovery only) of the Fringe Benefits Tax Assessment Act 1986 the indirect tax laws, including the goods and services tax (GST) law the wine tax law the luxury car tax law the fuel tax law, and Parts 2-5 and 2-10 in schedule 1 of the Tax Administration Act 1953, which are about the pay as you go (PAYG) system. The TASA also provides that the Tax Practitioners Board may, by legislative instrument, specify that another service is a BAS service. There are significant civil penalties for anyone providing BAS services for a fee or reward, or advertising BAS services, while unregistered.

19.01.2022 202021 personal tax cuts On 6 October 2020, the Australian Government introduced personal income tax cuts as part of the 202021 Budget. These tax cuts bring forward legislated personal income tax cuts from 1 July 2022 to 1 July 2020. You and your employer clients can use the 202021 tax tables at ato.gov.au/taxtables to withhold the right amount of tax for employee payments from their next pay.... Employers now need to make adjustments in their payroll processes and systems in order for the tax cuts to be reflected in employee’s take-home pay. Employers must make sure they are withholding the correct amount from salary or wages paid to employees for any pay runs processed in their system from no later than 16 November onwards. Some employees will notice the tax cuts in their take home pay within a few days or weeks. For others it may be longer. Let your employer clients know they don't need to make any other adjustments or refunds for their employees. Any over-withholding that occurred prior to the updates to payroll software or processes will be applied as credits when the employees lodge their 202021 income tax returns. We are working closely with payroll software providers as they work towards updating their software by 16 November 2020 to reflect the reduced withholding associated with income tax threshold changes. Your software provider will keep you updated on these changes.
