23.01.2022 Thanks so much to the 350 people that came to our Magnetic Island Festival of Wildlife - what an awesome morning The Festival appeared to be a great success! Lo...ts of questions to answer, lots of recognition for our local wildlife carer heroes and lots of donations A letter of support for our project from their Excellencies David and Luda Hurley - The Governor General and his wife was very much appreciated and very much down to the hard work of Terry and his connections Performances by Sweet Thing, Dance Magnetic and Theatre on The Rock were enjoyed by all. Shelley as always crafts for the kids A fantastic raffle with very generous prize donations from local businesses and especially the Douglas Family and Best of Magnetic for the main prize - all helped the donation efforts very well Thanks Claire and Bev for womanning the raffle stall Thanks Chris and Arthur - excellent front of house welcomers Photos by Savannah Mortimer are gorgeous and captured the warmth of the event beautifully Thanks to Tatjana and Rotary for feeding and hydrating us all!! Thanks to Lyle and team for first aid Thanks to our radio hosts Crystal and Brady from Star 106.3 FM The Men’s Shed for the practical help in running the event (and for the not so lovely but important job of toilet management) Thanks to Olivia - our Covid safety officer on the day Thanks to our stall holders MIFCO - Paula I have no idea how you managed in that kangaroo suit all morning - hope the event gets you all the recognition that you deserve for your tireless voluntary efforts ( and hopefully more members) MINT for showing us how hard you all work and what you do for our turtles Wallaby Refuge on Magnetic - Darrie and Mike I think your babies were the stars of the show Bev - for your tireless work for our curlews and possums SES for attending and hats off to the platypus person you were a great success! Neil - my fellow Yorkshire man and our drone specialist showing what is possible with new technology to help our wildlife Helen from Council another fellow Brit (who is the smiliest lady I know ) and who happily informed people about the giveaway native plants Krissy Regan - our local author of The Koala who lost his Heart for donating part of her book sales for our Koalas -thank you so much for coming Thanks to all who came to lend their support it is appreciated more than words can say MICDA hosted the event for us and without their support it would not have gone ahead so thank you so much especially Libby Our project team - none of this would have been possible without you. There was so much behind the scenes work done by these amazing individuals with skill sets in all different fields Sally, Maurice, Terry, Helen and Christal ( and Chris and Heather for their initial work) It’s been a wild ride ladies and gentlemen but we did it!!! We all enjoyed the day and hope everyone who came did too and hope to see you all next year Ps menopausal memory loss at its best please forgive me for any omissions and I will correct With love from The Bees

21.01.2022 Event number one for our Koala and Wildlife weekend. Come join us and bring the little ones to meet Izzy

18.01.2022 Starts on 15th September 2020 on Netflix

18.01.2022 Can islanders and tourists PLEASE stay back from our wild koalas - especially mums and their joeys The koalas are facing lots of stresses at the moment 1. It’s really dry so food is not as nutritious so mums struggle to feed both themselves and their joeys at this time of year 2. It’s breeding season and the males are not particularly good at understanding that no means no from the girls - they will chase a mum with a back rider and then mum and baby get separated. If too... small the baby needs to be reunited with mum or needs full time care - but only if found in time 3. Lots of people and traffic on the island - please SLOW down we have lost two mumma koalas in the past 3 weeks 4. Too many selfies Yes they are cute BUT please don’t get up close - I need people to understand the consequences of getting too close and crowding them in the wild An abandoned Joey can take up to 12 months of hand rearing with NO guarantee of survival Use your zooms people! Tour guides - please please understand the effects that taking multiple visitors to one koala and in particular a mum and Joey is having. The koala hospital can do so much but we desperately need islanders and tourists help keep our numbers down - Koalas should be able to live here in peace
