25.01.2022 2021 Oh hey there everyone! After 2 weeks away from the clinics I’m super relaxed and excited to start seeing all my wonderful patients. I thought I’d share a short list of what I’m going to focus on this year instead of making grand plans for travel and business because let’s face it, no one knows what will be possible this year. Improving my clinical knowledge through professional development. My main focus will be women’s health/fertility. I can’t get enough of learning... about women’s health and I’m excited to delve into some post-partum care too. My own health. Last year my own health goals took a bit of dive. This year I’m looking forward to exercising a bit more regularly, spending time in the kitchen which I love and seeking out other health professionals to support me. I often make the mistake of trying to treat myself, so this year I’m outsourcing and looking forward to being a patient myself. Work/life balance. We tend to pride ourselves on the hustle and being constantly busy. After years of prioritising work above all else, this year I’m going to see if I can gain some sort of balance. I’m not exactly sure how that will look but it’s something I will work towards. What are you focusing on this year? . . . #tcm #chinesemedicine #acupuncturebrisbane #yinyang #brisbaneacupuncture #brisbanehealth #nutrition #fertility #brisbanefertilitysupport #ivfsupport #fatigue #loveacupuncture #acupuncture #brisbaneacupuncturist #fertility #periodhealth #herbalmedicine #hormonehealth #acupunctureworks #acupunctureclinic #chinesemedicine #lifestyle #2021 #2021focus

22.01.2022 SPLEEN 8 Commonly used during acupuncture treatment of women, especially if they suffer with endometriosis and painful periods. Functions according to TCM: Harmonises the Spleen, regulates menstruation and the uterus, moves Blood, regulates Qi.... Chinese medicine theory states that Spleen 8 has a specific and important action on resolving blood stasis in the uterus and lower abdomen. . . . #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #fertilitysupport #fertility #brisbanefertility #painfulperiods #tcm #chinesemedicine #herbalmedicine #nutrition #brisbanenutritionist #acupuncture #acupuncturebrisbane

22.01.2022 Nutrition Basics for Endometriosis As one of my favourite health professionals states Endometriosis is not like other period problems. Its not a hormonal condition like PMS and PCOS. Its affected by hormones, yes, but fundamentally endometriosis is an inflammatory disease and possibly a microbial disease. Here are some nutrition recommendations for endometriosis. ... 1. Avoid dairy - cows milk contains a powerfully inflammatory protein called A1 casein that causes immune problems in some people. 2. Try going gluten free - Like A1 casein, gluten is immune-disruptive for some people. Some research shows painful symptoms of endometriosis decrease after 12 months of gluten free diet. Avoiding gluten can also improve intestinal permeability. A gluten-free diet is certainly worth trying, especially if you test positive for gluten antibodies on a blood test. 3. Follow a high fibre diet - Fibre encourages excretion of oestrogens by binding to the oestrogen and aiding its removal via the bowel 4. Limit sugar - Sugar is an immune depressant and is highly inflammatory. Best to avoid or be mindful of limiting. These are just small ways you can support your body. The same food guidelines can be applied to anyone wanting to improve their health from skin conditions to fertility support. For more great information about endometriosis, check out Lara Briden at www.larabriden.com . . . #endometriosis #endosupport #brisbaneendometriosis #nutrition #endometriosisdiet #brisbanenutritionist #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #chinesemedicine #acupuncture #brisbaneacupuncture #tcm #womenshealthbrisbane #womenshealth #fertility #fertilitysupport

22.01.2022 PCOS - DAY 4 Types of PCOS by @larabriden Im a big follower of @larabriden. She is amazing and has so much information available for all womens conditions. To treat PCOS, you need to know whats driving it. In other words, you need to know your functional type of PCOS.... You could have insulin-resistant PCOS, post-pill PCOS (which is temporary), inflammatory PCOS, or the far less common adrenal PCOS. First things first, what is PCOS? Despite the name, polycystic ovary syndrome has nothing to do with cysts on the ovaries. The things your doctor saw on ultrasound are follicles or eggs, which are normal for the ovary. You can have many eggs and still have normal hormones, and thats why ultrasound cannot diagnose (or rule out) the hormonal condition PCOS. PCOS is best defined as androgen excess (high male hormones) when all other causes of androgen excess have been ruled out. . . . #pcosbrisbane #pcostypes #pcos #pcoswarrior #chinesemedicine #chinesemedicineworks #chineseherbalmedicine #acupuncturebrisbane #fertilitysupport #naturalhealth #naturalhealthbrisbane #brisbaneacupuncture #tcm #tcmforpcos #polycysticovariansyndrome #paleo #mediterraneandiet See more

16.01.2022 And that’s wrap! Today is my final day in the clinic for 2020. And gosh what a crazy year it’s been. At the beginning of 2020 I wrote a blog post detailing all the things I had planned for the year. They included: - More travel for professional development - Opening a home clinic for 1 day a week... - Overseas trip for my partner and I - And a few other small personal goals None of these happened thanks to Covid. And I’m ok with that. So instead of writing about what I want to achieve in 2021, I’m just going to be grateful that I survived this year. Here’s a short list of a fews things I’m thankful for this year: - The clinics remaining open so I was able to support all my patients during this wild year - I moved in with my partner and we haven’t killed each other. In fact, I’d say we probably like and understand each other more. We even had to move house twice due to Covid so the stress levels were pretty high - That my client list continues to grow even though we are going through a global pandemic Who knows what 2021 will bring. All I can hope for is another year of amazing patients, supportive family, loving partner and fantastic work environments. . . . #tcm #chinesemedicine #acupuncturebrisbane #yinyang #brisbaneacupuncture #brisbanehealth #nutrition #fertility #brisbanefertilitysupport #ivfsupport #fatigue #loveacupuncture #acupuncture #brisbaneacupuncturist #fertility #periodhealth #herbalmedicine #hormonehealth #acupunctureworks #acupunctureclinic #chinesemedicine #lifestyle

13.01.2022 STARTING IVF? This if for you! I often get asked by clients when is the best time to start acupuncture for IVF support. And my answer is always as soon as you can. While most research studies on acupuncture for IVF are based on pre and post transfer treatments, we know that from a Chinese medicine perspective, it takes a minimum of 3 months for the menstrual cycle to be changed (or change in sperm quality for the guys).... Areas we assess during consultation: - Your current menstrual cycle - Sleep quality - Stress levels - Diet - Digestive health And a few extra fun topics. Basically, our goal is to gain insight into your health as a whole person, not just your menstrual cycle. Have questions? 11.01.2022 Nundah location - The Details The Nundah location is a home clinic so will run a little differently to the other 2 clinics I practice at. Heres how it will work. 1. Appointments are strictly appointment only. ... 2. Initial and follow up appointments are roughly 45min - 1 hour and will have a 30 minute gap in-between bookings to allow for room cleaning and to ensure you dont come into contact with any other patients. 3. Eftpos facilities are available, however, I am unable to provide hicaps (instant claiming with private health). Once your appointment is completed and paid I will email you an electronic receipt which you can use to claim directly with your health fund. 4. Appointment costs are slightly lower than the clinics. I chose to do this to help anyone who is struggling financially but still requires treatment. Its also to make up for the fact that I dont have hicaps. 5. If you are a patient that I havent previously seen in one of the clinics, once you book your first appointment, we will organise a time to have a quick chat over the phone. . . . #workfromhome #homeclinic #chinesemedicine #acupuncturenundah #nundah #lovingnundah #acupuncture #chineseherbs #nutrition #nutritionalmedicine #brisbanehealth #immunesupport #painmanagement #endometriosis #pcosbrisbane #pcos #womenshealth See more

11.01.2022 PCOS - Lifestyle Tips I see a surprisingly high number of young women with PCOS in the clinic. Often thats not even the reason they are attending the clinic but it always pops up during the initial consult. While PCOS is a complex condition that has many drivers behind it, I always try to provide some lifestyle advice that can be implemented into every day life. The most recent research shows that following a Mediterranean diet is the most effective diet in the management ...of PCOS. Other areas that need to be addressed are exercise, stress management and caffeine consumption. This is very general advice. If you live with PCOS, Id highly recommend seeking out a health professional to provide you with more tailored advice. . . . #tcm #chinesemedicine #acupuncturebrisbane #yinyang #brisbaneacupuncture #brisbanehealth #nutrition #fertility #brisbanefertilitysupport #ivfsupport #fatigue #loveacupuncture #acupuncture #brisbaneacupuncturist #fertility #periodhealth #herbalmedicine #hormonehealth #pcos #brisbanepcos #pcoscommunity See more

05.01.2022 Hi there! I thought I’d do a little reintroduction for everyone that is new to my page. I’m Jacinta but most people call me Jac. I’m a registered acupuncturist with a post-grad qualification in Nutrition. I’m a pretty big health nerd with a particular interest in food as medicine. I love all things women’s health. Fertility, periods, menopause, endo, hormonal acne, headaches, digestive issues etc I’m your gal. (FYI I also treat men, I just really enjoy women’s health)... I’ve been in clinical practice for just over 5 years and I must say I think my job is the best. Each day is different and while being a sole trader can be stressful, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Jac facts: 1. I’m a little scared of receiving needles. Weird for an acupuncturist, I know. My first acupuncture session I received was 11+ years ago and I had to keep my eyes closed to whole time. Because of this I have developed a very gentle style of treating patients. I now love getting acupuncture treatments and enjoy the ultra relaxed sensation I get after a session. 2. I’m a massive introvert. While I love my job and having a good old chat with my patients, I need a lot of down time after a day in the clinic. I can often be found in the kitchen cooking (to varying degrees of success) or reading a book on the back deck with tea (or wine, depending on the day). 3. I often dream of owning a bit of land with a gorgeous little clinic and a massive garden so I can grow my own veggies. I can picture chickens running around and a few dogs hanging out while I potter in the garden. I currently contract to two clinics in Brisbane. You can find me at Ginseng Acupuncture & Natural Therapies and GO2 Health. Between both clinics I’m available 5 days a week. Got a question? 02.01.2022 Some great information from @medlab_clinical Vitamin C and its role in Immunity Vitamin C supports various cellular functions by reducing inflammation in turn boosting the immune system [1][2][3] Vitamin C has crucial influence in the production of the anti-viral immune response during the early phase of viral infection through the production of type I interferons, which up-regulate Natural killer (NK) cell activity [1][6][7] Vitamin C supports the production of i...nterferons, necessary for cells to initiate protective defences Vitamin C supports the production of large quantities of nitrogen oxide by phagocytes, necessary to capture and neutralize pathogens [2][7] Vitamin C enhances the production of T lymphocytes, necessary for cell mediated immune responses [1][6][7] Vitamin C increases the production of B lymphocytes, crucial for the early phase response to infective pathogens.[7][10] Vitamin C deficiency may result in a weakened immune system with a higher risk of infection[1] Findings have indicated that ascorbic acid can be used as an inactivating agent for both RNA and DNA viruses, lessening viral infectivity[7] See more

02.01.2022 HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED? This seems like a simple question but it’s much more complicated than one might believe. Acupuncture treatment and results are very much dose dependant. Often people arrive to the clinic after trying lots of other treatments for months at a time but then imagine acupuncture to be magical and fix their chronic pain in 2-3 sessions. I find acupuncture to have a delayed, cumulative effect. Meaning that results of treatment are gradual, with one t...reatment building on the next. This is because acupuncture to trying to correct an imbalance in the body that may have been present for many years. Acute conditions usually respond much faster to treatment compared with chronic conditions. And some conditions maybe need continual treatment in more of a management plan style. For example, here is the result of a study for acupuncture dosing in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The effect of acupuncture may be associated with dose of acupuncture, with a higher dosage related to better treatment outcomes in terms of relief of pain and dysfunction in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
