13.01.2022 I dropped in to see Wayne Walker and his Tear Drop Caravan factory. It was a real pleasure checking out the Tear Drop and his racing cars, and sharing some... stories. A motor enthususiast, with a head for business, Wayne is fueled for success. A successful career as a senior Account manager to the big Prime Movers Kenworth, Mac, Iveco, International etc, and a passion for building and racing cars - Wayne has been a 3 time winner of the Australian Hill Climbing Championships, twice in his current racer and one racing Formula 2 Wayne has now shifted his skills to manufacturing custom Tear Drop caravans. Wayne purchased his Carrum Down Industrial Park factory 4 years ago. Initially purchased to house and work on his beloved racing cars, Wayne also saw an opportunity to establish his own manufacturing business. To this end, he undertook comprehensive research of the caravan industry. It was much larger than he expected, and he saw some strong niche opportunities. After being introduced to a custom tear drop built as a keep-interested-in-retirement project by a close friend, Wayne had found the opportunity he was looking for. Wayne shared with me that it at-times it was a difficult challenge, taking him out of his comfort zone. A strength and interest of Wayne, that his mates will attest to, is that he is an excellent problem solver. In a way this was the perfect project for Wayne. He has recently completed his first Tear Drop Caravan and he is now proudly showing his demonstrator at car and caravan events, turning heads, with almost everyone who walks past stopping to admire and ask questions of Wayne. Wayne has a clear vision about taking the business to a healthy size. It seems the ducks are lined up. A success story in the making!
