25.01.2022 Unbelievable. We're in a global pandemic and the LNP promise to cut thousands of nurses from our hospitals. We want the economy to rebound, not the virus. The LNP are a risk that no Queenslander can afford; and they'll do anything to get into power - even doing a preference deal to prop up the Greens Party to increase the chance of a LNP government.
23.01.2022 I love the Davies Park markets and it's even better when I get to catch up with my family and help out on the tools! Coming from a family of small business owners I understand how critical it is that we support our local shops and providers as we roll out our economic recovery plan, so that’s exactly what Labor is doing.
21.01.2022 With our growing community, there is no question that South Brisbane needs a local MP who can get things done. I'm so excited to deliver these community wins as part of the State's agreement with Brisbane City Council for the construction of Brisbane Metro: more public park land shading the Victoria Bridge toll relief on the Go Between bridge for South Brisbane locals
21.01.2022 If you haven’t heard of Mu'ooz Eritrean Restaurant & Catering you need to stop what you’re doing right now and check it out. This not-for-profit social enterprise and restaurant gives work experience, training and employment opportunities to African women in our community. And on the weekend they launched exciting new products as part of their plan for economic recovery.... Since it began, this network has assisted more than 220 women with training and employment opportunities and the Palaszczuk Government is proud to support them. Last year Mu'ooz were awarded over $115,000 through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, to help 30 women transition into hospitality jobs. Mu'ooz was also recently selected as one of 26 social enterprises to share in the Palaszczuk Government's inaugural Social Enterprise Grants program. A huge thanks to the Eritrean Australian Women's and Families Support Network, and the incomparable Mama Saba, for the phenomenal work they do to help local community members get back on their feet and into jobs. So what are you waiting for? Drop in for a coffee or dinner and get behind these amazing women!
21.01.2022 If what you wanted was an unworkable Queensland Parliament, and a minority government beholden to One Nation and Clive Palmer, right in the middle of a global pandemic, sure, you'd go ahead and do exactly this. Makes sense then. The LNP are a risk to our economic recovery.
20.01.2022 Ngugi man, Uncle Bob Anderson is a respected elder, activist, and a life-long champion of workers' rights. His words of support are enormously important to me. It was such a privilege to work with Uncle Bob over the past few years on the Native Title consent determination of Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) - his land, his country. This means that Uncle Bob, for the first time in his 90 years, has been recognised as a Traditional Owner of his ancestral home, by the Federal Court ...of Australia. The Queensland Labor Government consented to the application and I am so proud of the role we played in achieving this historic outcome. I know Treaty is important to Uncle Bob. It's so important to First Nations and non-Indigenous peoples alike and I pay my respects to all those who have dedicated many years of protest, advocacy and legal challenge to start this historic process, many of whom have passed. Treaty (or Treaties) is long-overdue and it's only a Palaszczuk Labor Government, working in partnership with First Nations peoples and all Queenslanders, who will see Treaty through.
19.01.2022 Thank you for your support, Uncle Bob. For me. For Labor. For Annastacia Palaszczuk. It means the world.... Together, we've made progress and it's vital that we stick to the plan. You need to vote Labor in South Brisbane to guarantee a Palaszczuk Labor Government. If you still haven't voted yet, remember this. Remember that our state is safer and stronger with Labor. Because we will always have your back. So choose a better future and re-elect a Palaszczuk Labor Government today.
19.01.2022 This timeline, honestly So Joel cut his finger setting up polling booths this morning. He then went and got stitches, and came back! ... At least now when he says Vote 1 Jackie Trad it definitely gets attention! Seriously though, what a legend, thanks so much Joel
18.01.2022 The intersection at Hardgrave and Vulture is now a scramble crossing, just in time for school to start back next week! I’m so glad I was able to make sure we got the best possible outcome at this crossing after a false start. Back in July, I heard from the West End State School community that this intersection was set to be upgraded to an all pedestrian phase crossing but not a scramble crossing.... I know that sounds a bit technical but this meant that Council were initially unwilling to make cars wait an additional 12 seconds to allow families to safely cross diagonally at this very busy intersection. I spoke with the Council Chair of Infrastructure, and advocated for a proper upgrade for the intersection to be a scramble crossing for the safety of our community and little people on their way to school especially seeing as the State Government funded the signal upgrade as a part of the delivery of the West End State School expansion in the first place. Now, West End State School families will be able to cross this intersection diagonally and safely, knowing they have a little extra time to get to the other side.
18.01.2022 We’ve come so far already in the fight against COVID-19. It’s thanks to the hard work of all Queenslanders that we’ve been able to get Queensland back to work and now we can ease restrictions further. Our strong health response means we can keep rolling out our economic recovery plan.... Here’s everything you need to know about the health advice going forward
17.01.2022 Only Labor has a plan for economic recovery and it’s fantastic to be joined by so many volunteers to talk to our community about it today. We even had a special guest join us for door knocking - Murray Watt - Senator for Queensland! Like me, he’s been taking the fight up to the Federal LNP Government about Scott Morrison’s cuts to JobKeeper and JobSeeker, as well as the LNP’s harsh decision to hike up uni fees and make life even harder for students.... It doesn’t matter if it’s Scott Morrison or Deb Frecklington - the LNP’s only plan is cuts, but I’ll never stop fighting for a fair and inclusive economic recovery.
16.01.2022 Honestly, this needs to stop. It’s not activism, it’s cowardice and sexist.
16.01.2022 Woolloongabba Art Gallery is always worth a visit, and we’re supporting them through the global pandemic with one of the Palaszczuk Government’s small business adaption grants. They showcase such beautiful works, and at the moment they’re showcasing works by Lardil and Kaiadilt artists on Mornington Island. Alex and his team share these artists’ love of their country with us here in Brisbane, and in turn support these artists in reaching their audiences. As a result, these ar...tists are able to make a living from these stunning artworks they share with us. It’s small businesses like this that keep locals in jobs and we need to support them. Make sure you pop in and soak in the culture, vibrancy and passion in these works, and support both a worthy local business and artists on Mornington Island.
15.01.2022 Brisbane City Council planned to close the Victoria Bridge to vehicular traffic without thought for the impacts this would have on local residents accessing the city. This wasn't good enough. Our community should not be disadvantaged by the Metro project. As a part of the State Government's negotiations with Council on this project, I insisted that toll relief for the Go-Between Bridge was given to our community, in addition to more public park land and shading the Victoria Bridge.
14.01.2022 I guess they couldn’t mount an argument around my local achievements or my progressive effectiveness! But seriously, this is pretty disappointing. There are only two female candidates with signs up at this stage and as I was out and about around South Brisbane today it's pretty clear that it's only my signs being targeted. Elections are tough, but they should be fought on policies and ideas, not slurs and insults. No matter who you're supporting, please do it respectfully.
13.01.2022 There is no question that our strong health response in Queensland is saving lives but this fight is not over. We cannot become complacent. We need the Morrison Government to step up and deliver a national approach to protecting our loved ones in aged care. And I implore the Federal LNP Government to do so, sooner rather than later.
13.01.2022 Labor’s record investment in education infrastructure will continue under a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government, creating jobs as part of our economic recovery plan. That means the first new high school in the inner south in over 60 years and expansions and more classrooms across local primary schools A vote for Labor in South Brisbane will ensure a Palaszczuk Labor Government and bigger and better local schools for our kids.
12.01.2022 This week I was fortunate to talk to some health heroes and members of United Workers Union and thank them for the work they do every day to keep Queenslanders safe and healthy. Most of these every day heroes don’t think of themselves that way they’re just committed to doing the best they can for their patients. But they are heroes, and this week we thank them for their service. Queensland’s healthcare workers have been on the frontline of our strong health response to the ...global pandemic, and it’s because of this that we are now able to roll out our economic recovery plan for jobs. Our healthcare heroes deserve our thanks, our respect and our support. That’s why I’m also committed to fight for workers, like those I met today, to protect them from outsourcing and cuts like they saw under the LNP.
12.01.2022 Approximately 67,000 Queenslanders are employed in the arts and culture sector with a further 25,500 Queenslanders working in a job supported by it. These workers have been hit hard by the global pandemic, and have been left behind by the Federal Government. The Palaszczuk Government has already rolled out a $22.5 million arts and cultural recovery package, and this week Leeanne Enoch MP launched a 10 year roadmap for this sector to give our arts and culture sector workers ...support, certainty, and security. Arts, culture and creativity will play a pivotal role in the Palaszczuk Government’s plan for Queensland’s economic recovery. Together we can harness the power of the arts to shape communities, drive employment, activate regional centres, and share our unique stories and creative culture with the world.
10.01.2022 HUGE COMMUNITY WIN This land on the corner near South Brisbane station was earmarked to be sold off to property developers by the Newman LNP Government and together as a community, we stopped them. Now, I am so excited to announce that after construction of the Brisbane Metro project, this block pictured here will become public park land.... This is all part of the community legacy that I insisted the State Government had to negotiate with Brisbane City Council before signing up to the agreement on Brisbane Metro. Our community can't be disadvantaged by Metro, so we are making sure the following huge wins are locked in as part of this agreement too: shading on the Victoria Bridge toll relief on the Go Between Bridge for South Brisbane residents impacted by the closure of Victoria Bridge to private vehicles during construction of the project further detailed design on the Cultural Centre station to ensure that the station integrates into the precinct, undertaken jointly between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council All of this builds on my track record of delivering parks and amenities for our community - something we have been let down on by Council representation in recent years, like with the rezoning of Davies Park. A huge thank you to Mark Bailey MP - Labor for Miller for listening and helping me deliver for my community here in South Brisbane.
09.01.2022 ICYMI I am making sure this land at South Brisbane train station will be turned into public park land We saved it from being sold off to developers by Campbell Newman and now it’ll be converted into a park that will benefit our whole community. ... All of this builds on my track record of delivering parks and open space for our community. With your support, I have delivered: the Gabba Hill Community Garden alongside our former Councillor Helen Abrahams on Boundary Street as part of West Village development along with confirmation from BCC that they have issued a request that the latest instalment of West Village (‘Mollison Green’) be redesigned to increase and enhance its greenspace areas Queen Bess Park, in Woolloongabba nearly 7000sq metres of new green space at South Bank including a 800sq m rainforest, a 2500sq m river lawn for open air events and a riverside community shade house And when construction of the Cross River Rail project at Boggo Road commenced, I ensured that Outlook Park, within the Ecosciences Precinct, was retained and moved to its temporary location adjacent to Dutton Park State School And now we’ll have even more public park land right next to the beautiful heritage listed South Brisbane station for everyone to enjoy.
08.01.2022 The Morrison LNP Government’s attacks on uni students are outrageous. They are joining forces with Pauline Hanson to hike up uni fees, and punish students, especially those from less privileged backgrounds. Access to education should never be based on your family’s income or where you come from. ... Kicking out students who fail a subject in their first year is heartless. The transition to university can be difficult, and this bill will hit where it hurts the most. Even Jacqui Lambie has hit out at Morrison saying I can’t support a bill that reserves its harshest hits for our poorest kids We have to step up and send the LNP a message - we aren’t going to take this lying down.
07.01.2022 It's Love Your Local Bookshop Day which is a great excuse to drop into Avid Reader Bookshop this weekend, not that I ever need one! We're so lucky to have this institution in our community. It's up to all of us to do our bit and support local businesses that keep our high streets vibrant and thriving. ... It's all part of our economic recovery plan - support small and buy local! I love visiting the team at Avid, and I always end up walking out with an extra book or three. What's on your reading list? Tell me in the comments and make sure you pick it up from a local bookshop and support jobs in small businesses #LYBD2020 #loveyourbookshop
06.01.2022 The final countdown! Don’t miss out on your chance to re-elect a Palaszczuk Labor Government here in Queensland. Only Labor has a plan for a fair and inclusive economic recovery. Only Labor will protect and invest in our frontline services, our schools and our hospitals. ... Now is not the time to risk Deb Frecklington and the LNP. Vote Labor in South Brisbane for a progressive and effective Labor Government here in Queensland.
05.01.2022 Exciting news! We have launched Queensland's new Protected Area Strategy which is a new 10-year plan for supporting the growth, management and sustainability of national parks and other protected areas. We are kicking it off with an initial investment of $60 million. This also means doubling the number of Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers across Queensland, which will see 100 new Ranger jobs created for First Nations Peoples acknowledging the incredibly important work they do i...n caring for country. Labor has already increased Queensland's protected area estate by more than 1 million hectares since 2015 and this announcement means we will continue this expansion and grow our protected areas over the next 10 years.
05.01.2022 Labor is for young workers. Vote Labor in South Brisbane for a Palaszczuk Labor Government who will deliver free TAFE, free apprenticeships, long term funding for the Arts sector and stand up to the Morrison LNP Government’s harsh cuts to universities and income support payments.
