05.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE New pipes for Binnaway Showgrounds Out-of-date, leaking, plumbing infrastructure has been replaced at the Binnaway Showgrounds thanks to a $30,000 Showground Stimulus grant from the NSW Government.... The grant enabled the Binnaway Show Society to engage local plumbers to replace the entire pipe network with new 50mm poly pipes and new taps. Binnaway Show Society Treasurer Jim Larkin said the investment would save costly repairs and volunteers’ time maintaining the old system. The existing pipe network would have been at least 40 years old, Mr Larkin said. We had to do a few repairs recently before this year’s Show but now with the new plumbing infrastructure in place we will be well positioned to host future events without having to worry about pipe leaks. The project was particularly important ahead of future horse sports events at the new yards, Mr Larkin said. With our new horse sports yards we will be looking to host events requiring animals to be well cared for whilst at the grounds and a reliable water supply is a critical part of that. Upper House MP Sam Farraway said the funding was provided through the NSW Government’s COVID-19 stimulus program. "$35.77 million is being provided across the state for showground upgrades and improvements under the stimulus program," Mr Farraway said. The program is supporting jobs and economic activity in local economies impacted by COVID-19 while supporting the long term sustainability of showgrounds. Showgrounds are community hubs and multi-use facilities and these projects will improve safety and enhance community enjoyment by providing upgraded facilities to support a range of uses. Mr Larkin thanked Warrumbungle Shire Council and Crown Lands for their administration assistance, as well as Jamie Halliday from JTH Plumbing and subcontractors Jack’s Hire, Guy Andrews and suppliers Binnaway Rural Supplies for their involvement in the project. We were able to use local businesses for this project meaning the money stays in the community which is a win for everyone. The plumbing upgrade was completed on time and on budget.
