24.01.2022 Thank you all for your continuing comments and support. The police have now revealed to us the name of the person charged with the murder of our six beloved. miniature horses on the 21st of December, but have advised us not to release his name while police investigations continue. We must remember that the person arrested for this atrocity is innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law. We believe in the Law. We want the monster who committed this heinous crime to face Court and to receive the maximum penalty the justice system can provide. We need to hear what possible reason he could have for carrying out this horrendous act. Julie & Mel Jackson

23.01.2022 I know that everyone wants to hear details of how the police investigation is going just as much as we do but the police are not telling us anything. The reason for this is that we may inadvertently release information that might jeopardise a conviction. We do believe that the police are being very diligent in their inquiries and we are very confident that they will find whoever did this atrocity. I am so sorry about this. I do understand that others within the horse communi...ty and without share with us the horror of the murder of 6 innocent horses but please understand that the police have to thoroughly investigate all possible links before making an arrest. It is very difficult for us to have to trust that the police are making good progress with their investigations as we want these scumbag(s) dealt with asap. But we would hate for these low-lifes to avoid the full force of the law simply because the police overlooked something or did not investigate all possibilities. We will certainly post here any information that the police release but, until then, we have to wait. Please wait with us. In the meantime, please continue to report to Crime Stoppers any relevant information you may have relative to this crime. We are going to get these scumbags. See more

23.01.2022 I feel dreadful. Yesterday, when I posted a list of the horses that were murdered, I omitted one. It really hurts to have to add to the list one of the sweetest fillies I've ever known and the first "Jackson's Miniatures" foal: Jackson's GA Alegria (Apoco-D Gamblers Anonymous x Alchemy Dynamic Destiny) She was only in the stables that night because we had added her to the show team for the MHAA SA State Championships three weeks ago. She won Supreme Miniature at the 2012 event and we brought her in to give her a chance to repeat that effort. She was still in our stables because we wanted her to grow some coat back before returning her to her friends in the paddocks. RIP little one. You did not deserve this. No horse ever did. If anyone has any information at all about who may have done this please call Crimestoppers in your State.

22.01.2022 Michael "Mick" O'Connell appeared in Victor Harbor court this morning and plead guilty to one of the eight charges he was facing for killing our six miniature horses, He will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on May 20 to plead in relation to the other charges. We will provide further information later in the day. Thank you to all those people who turned up at the court house to support us and sorry that you were not all able to get in.

21.01.2022 The case against Michael O'Connell for murdering our horses last December continues in the Adelaide District Court on Tuesday, Oct 21. With O'Connell having plead guilty to the two major criminal charges, the case should now enter the sentencing stage. We have prepared and expect to read out Victim Impact Statements. We would hope that the judge will hand down his sentences on Tuesday but this is likely to be adjourned to a later date.

20.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has commented on Fb and sent us their condolences and offers of support. Some people have commented several times such is their disgust at the evilness of this attack. We will be posting more information until these low-lifes are in custody so please don't feel that you need to comment on each post. Julie and I are comforted by your messages, posts and comments. We will reply to all your messages and friend requests as soon as we can but everything i...s in turmoil right now and it might take a few days before we do. The police are starting to receive a lot of useful information and are pursuing a number of leads. They are being extremely diligent and are determined to find the culprits. If anybody has received threats against their persons, horses and families, please contact CrimeStoppers in your State. Your information, however much you think insignificant, could add to the volume of evidence already on hand and help us put away the evil-doers for a very long time. This is classified as a Major Crime and needs to be solved. The perpetrators are facing a jail term of up to 10 years for this crime, maybe more if the Court is convinced that others have received violent threats from the same scumbags. Please help with any information you might have.

19.01.2022 Julie and I thank AMHS for honouring our six beautiful horses that died so tragically last December. The Jackson's Perpetual Trophy was instigated by AMHS and presented at its HOTY Show yesterday. Congratulations to the owners and connections of SMHCs Ringmaster, who is the inaugural winner, and our thanks to all who competed in this event

19.01.2022 In the South Australian District Court today, Michael O'Connell appeared to plead guilty to similar charges as those that he had pleaded guilty to in the Magistrates Court. Apparently clerical officers in the Magistrates Court had erred in their specification of the charges when passing the case on to the District Court, resulting in the charges having to be remade. O'Connell plead guilty to these new charges, involving property damage and aggravated criminal trespass. The J...udge then adjourned the hearing for submissions to 21st October, after O'Connell's defence requested extra time to receive the results of a psychological test on O'Connell and an independent valuation of the murdered horses (believed to be being carried out by someone in Victoria). It is disappointing that progress on the case has been deferred to October and that sentencing will not occur until sometime after that date. Julie and I continue to have to relive the horror of what O'Connell did to our horses just before Christmas 2013 and having to prepare submission after submission is very difficult to handle. We thank those friends that attended the Court hearing today and those that continue to contact us with messages of support.

19.01.2022 Sorry but we have had to delete our previous post for fear of jeopardising the court case.

16.01.2022 Sentencing of Michael O'Connell for murdering our six beautiful miniature horses is scheduled in the Adelaide District Court at 9:30am tomorrow.

15.01.2022 Some photos of our foals for the 2013/14 season. Some of these foals will be for sale after weaning. Photos are in paddock condition.

13.01.2022 Our apologies to all those people who have contacted us and have not received a reply or at least a "like". We are trying to respond to all of your kind messages and posts but are simply overwhelmed at the moment. Your comments and offers of assistance are greatly appreciated. There are some fantastic people out there and we are confident that the perpetrators of this evilness against innocent and loving horses will soon be caught and punished. We are also so pleased with the support we are receiving from the police and the electronic media (TV and radio stations). They have conducted themselves in a highly professional and compassionate manner and all are extremely motivated to find the perpetrators of this obscenity. Please have a great Christmas and New Year.

12.01.2022 I am totally overwhelmed by public response to this massacre. I have just had an on-air discussion with Jeremy Cordeaux at radio station 5AA in Adelaide. He has personally added $10,000 to the $100,000 reward money offered by Julie Jackson. The people of Adelaide have been calling in to his program offering cash contributions and help. Thank you Jeremy, 5AA and all those people who have called him to express their utter horror.

09.01.2022 By now, most people would have heard that the police have made an arrest for killing our horses. This provides us with some relief but we still do not know who this monster is and what possible reason he could have to massacre 6 beautiful horses in their stables. We are also very disappointed that this monster has been bailed. My family, our stable hands and our remaining horses are so at risk from this person yet the Courts let him out on Bail and we have to wait for a Court... appearance in March for the first opportunity to remove him from the community. We congratulate the police for making such an early arrest. Now comes the difficult part. We have to see if the Courts will punish this monster to the full force of the law or simply let him off because "they're only horses". The police are continuing their enquiries to ensure that the Court is presented with plenty of evidence to convict this offender and mete out the maximum jail sentence they are able to. In the meantime, we in the horse community and the general public must work to strengthen the laws in respect to attacks and threats against horses and other animals. Society needs to convince the politicians and Courts that such behaviour is not acceptable and is abhorrent. There is simply no comprehensible reason why these horses should have died like this. We will have to wait until this monster is named and all the other questions are answered before we can get any closure. Roll on March you scumbag. It is well for you that the police are not naming you right now. Your life is about to be ruined as you have ruined ours. Society's laws are protecting you now but that's not going to happen for much longer and then we'll all know who you are. See more

09.01.2022 At the Adelaide District Court this morning, the Judge heard sentencing submissions in the case against Michael O'Connell for killing our horses. Julie and I read out our Victims Impact Statements to the Court. Sentencing will be on November 26. We are pleased to report that O'Connell's bail has now been revoked and he is remanded in custody until sentencing. Thank you everyone for your continued support.

07.01.2022 Michael 'Mad Mick' O'Connell was sentenced to 3 1/2 years imprisonment for killing our miniature horses with a non-parole period of 18 months. This is after the Court allowed him the maximum discount for pleading guilty. We hope O'Connell remembers the names of the horses he murdered and continues to think of them every day of his prison sentence. Dralion, Nouvelle, Fifi, Sailor, Allie and Zu did not deserve what they received at the hands of this murderer and we will never forget them. Thank you to all those people who have supported us throughout this trial. You have helped us immensely in dealing with this long process.

07.01.2022 Michael (Mick) O'Connell appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 17th and plead guilty to the major charge of aggravated criminal trespass. The six charges for animal cruelty were dropped by the Department of Public Prosecutions because they were already included in the charge for property damage to which O'Connell has already plead guilty. The case now moves to the District Court in Adelaide on July 21st for sentencing.

03.01.2022 Well, the time is nearly here to begin the Court process that we hope will result in justice for the murder of our six miniature horses on 21st December. The case is listed for 10:00am on Monday 3rd March at the Court House, Victor Harbor (Case No. 18 MCCHB-14-650). This is a preliminary hearing prosecuted by the Police Prosecutor. It is expected to last about 15 minutes before being transferred to the District Court in Adelaide, where it will be prosecuted by the Dept. of Pu...blic Prosecutions. This could be a further 10 weeks away. Thank you to all those people who have stated their intentions to attend the hearing but we feel that this is not necessary at this stage of the proceedings. The hearing is really only to read the charges and to accept the defendant's pleas. This is going to be a very difficult day for Julie, me and others who were close to these horses but we are determined to seek a custodial sentence for these crimes. We should mention that the person charged with slaughtering these horses is not, to our knowledge, associated with horses and the crimes were targeted at us. See more

02.01.2022 Michael "Mick" O'Connell appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on 20th May but entered no further pleas in relation to the charges he is facing for killing our horses. He will reappear before the same Court on 17th June at 11:30am.
