06.01.2022 JACK SUE'S RHYTHM BOYS Recorded at the Leederville Town Hall 1957. There's a story behind this recording. Around 300 people had jammed into the hall for a ball. The band was ready but Jackie Wong was missing. He was on a flight back from Adelaide with Ansett ANA Airlines. The flight was delayed out of Adelaide and Jackie knew he would be late. The crowd at Leederville were informed of this and they all stayed and waited. ... When the flight landed at Perth, Jackie Wong jumped into a taxi and sped out to Leederville. He jumped out of the taxi and ran in and up on to the stage, lifted the bonnet of the upright piano and the band kicked into music for dancing. Unbeknown to any of the band boys, one of their dance fans who followed Jack Sue's band with his wife and group of friends, had placed a tape to tape recorder behind the piano and recorded the whole evening's music. Later, a friend from a Perth radio station 6KY, transferred the taped music to two LP records. In 2004, the aged couple came into our Midland store at 6 Helena Street to buy a copy of Blood on Borneo. And they gave me the two LP's. I had them transferred to DVD. My dear Dad was absolutely overwhelmed with excitement and pure joy when I played the DVD. It was a 22 track collection of one of Perth's hottest dance bands. Not many people today, know that Jack had his own dance band. The original members stayed together for more than 35 years. Please share this post around for us. I am keeping Jack's name alive as best I can.
