Commemorating VE Day, sharing my Watercolour painting of a London bonfire street scene on VE Day. Reminds me of my dad’s street in Manchester, he would have been 14yrs old on this day and celebrated in the streets with his family. I did this painting for him in 1997 Now in 2019, I’m wondering when I’ll meet my daughter Lauren Rice again??? I’m here in Australia and she is in London, we are divided by the new war COVID19.

19.01.2022 A new painting to a new home. I was requested to paint a scene from some photos provided to me by a firefighter who was involved in the 2020 bushfires, after he saw my painting ‘Raw Resilience ‘ he made contact with me. I wasn’t sure if I could capture and do the photos justice, so I hesitated for quite a while. There is a sad story about a beautiful koala that didn’t make it.... he is incorporated in this painting, bottom left as a living koala walking towards the firefighters. In this painting, the koala does survive. This is a spirit Koala, helping us all heal our wounds and the wounds of the earth. This has been a very special painting for me and connected me to my ‘brush’ again....

17.01.2022 I am literally speechless right now!!! So so excited. Simon and schuster approached me last June 2019 about using my painting/ image of Battle Weary for the soft back launch of Graham Swifts’s book ‘Wish you were here’. I was thrilled and a bit awed!!! I didn’t hear any more from them. They paid a handsome fee for the use of the image. Here!!! 9 months later and it is in print ....I am absolutely thrilled. I was told that the author found my painting himself on the Internet and insisted it was used....how amazing is this!! I can’t wait for my daughter to take photos of it in the UK books shops...

16.01.2022 When I saw the actual photo of this volunteer firefighter Aaron Cox, my heart just lurched, the photo that went viral and was shared by channel 7 news, quite literally broke my serious painting block and I knew that I had to paint this scene. The acute exhaustion experienced. The commitment and community compassion our volunteer firefighters give to us all is profound and selfless. We will never know all the individual faces, the wounds, the lost lives, but I am personally so... in awe of these men and women who have given and are still giving their all to all of us and our magnificent wildlife that cannot speak and call out ... I wanted to share this painting with you all. Each stroke was from the heart as I painted Aaron Cox. A captured moment in time that sends the most powerful message, greater than any words. 06.01.2022 Lest we forget, the pain, suffering and sacrifice. I think this painting of mine says it all. The emotions this war time photograph evoked in me compelled me to paint it. A soldier in Westminster Cathedral. How can we ever forget? It’s not possible.....
