21.01.2022 FREELANCER Reflections. This year was my 1st working 100% for myself. After 7 years lecturing for JCU in Creative Arts & being a doctoral student for much of that, I was on my own . January: the year was mapped with plans, practice directions & projects. But like with most people’s circumstances, nearly all plans changed. . Upon reflection my creative skill set served me well. Forced to pivot, adapt & accept change. I also discovered a deeper value of enduring creative pra...ctice- the studio space was a way to process circumstances & enhance well-being during uncertainty. Creative connections made for meaningful engagement & productive conversation. . Although the arts have been hit hard this year I’m truly grateful for government support, including that from @artsqueensland that gave much needed traction to projects. Also to the school educators who see value in a practicing artist’s perspective. School workshops have been a lifeline in 2020 & connecting with staff/students/artists purposeful . The body of work that arose this year sustained my interest & continued my philosophical journey of wayfaring/painting in different directions. Thank you to those who have engaged with this work in whatever way big or small. . During the flux of 2020 I have also being growing a baby- due to enter the world any day now (turns out nesting really is a thing). Looking forward to shaping a creative career around a new boy & amazing partner/family support. . 2021: This freelancer’s plan is just getting etched out. At the moment my ‘map’ is a cluster of key words:Meditate. Collaborate. Experience more art. Build community/connect. Make. Learn. Share knowledge. Overcome the resistance. Do tax stuff better. I welcome any thoughts or insights with suggestions! . Hoping during 2021 we cross creative paths in some way. 20.01.2022 2020 high school workshops- that’s a wrap! What a year. Congratulations to staff who managed to organise visiting artist workshops. Was an absolute pleasure to visit (or revisit) a variety of schools between northern NSW up to Mackay. Sharing both theoretical & practical skills, embarking on excursions & mentoring. . Also to the schools who jumped onboard for online content during learning-from-home. In awe of how teaching staff adapted during this time. . As for 2021. I’m... excited to have an ‘online toolkit’ available to help students work through their senior year. Thankyou to @artsqueensland funding to help get this off the ground. .
