24.01.2022 Curious creatures, Wild Minds - Celebrating Book Week 2020

21.01.2022 The children are loving their new Jac St Kitchen that arrived late last week thanks to Josh’s Furniture. Now that it’s starting to get warmer this is becoming a very popular place to play and create.

19.01.2022 For two weeks we were fortunate to become the caretakers of baby chicks. We firstly observed eggs in an incubator and were lucky enough to actually see a chick hatch from its egg! This was an amazing experience. The children have eagerly and gently held the soft chicks, and ensured they have enough food and water. A significant amount of learning and engagement has flowed from this experience - we have sketched pictures of chicks, made chick collages, discussed what we know about chicks (prior knowledge and experiences), made group learning goals, sang songs about chickens/eggs, read both fiction and factual books and discussed the life cycle of chickens. It was amazing to see how much the chicks grew and changed over the two week period! This has been a valuable and exciting experience for all children.

17.01.2022 Language, literacy and fostering a love for books/reading is an important part of our curriculum. Today Brooke Graham, the author of Go Away, Worry Monster, came in to read her book. After her visit, as a group we reflected on the strategies used in the story and brainstormed further ideas of what we can do when we are feeling worried or anxious. Children documented their thinking through drawing and their ideas were written alongside their work.

07.01.2022 We can't wait to welcome our new group of Kindergarten children and families for 2021!! We are sure this year will be one of learning, growth, wonder, enquiry, discovery and FUN! Attached are some helpful hints for your child's first day, -a day sure to be filled with big emotions. We also want to send our very best wishes to our Kindergarten children of 2020, who are now venturing into the big world of Prep. https://www.candk.asn.au/lov/getting-ready-first-day-kindy#

03.01.2022 Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge! Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they c...an write the way school-aged children or adults can! Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't. While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities: * painting and drawing * playdough / clay * tearing and cutting * gluing * poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper) * digging in dirt * building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks * beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins) * puzzles * squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette) * picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes) * playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc) These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, all this fine motor practice and skill development (while having fun!) will make it much easier.

02.01.2022 Wishing our wonderful and dedicated director, Maree Whitby a very special Happy Birthday!
