21.01.2022 Children may be still concerned about themselves, their family, and friends getting ill with COVID-19. Parents and other trusted adults can play an important role in helping children make sense of what they hear in a way that is honest, minimizing anxiety or fear. Children will react to both what you say and how you say it. They will pick up cues from the conversations you have with them and with others... ... The best way to talk with them is remaining calm and reassuring they are safe and let them know it is okay if they feel upset, sharing with them how you are dealing with your own stress so they can learn to cope from you. You can help making yourself available to listen and to talk when them have some questions, paying attention to what they see or hear on television, radio or online and reducing the amount of screen time focused on COVID-19, providing them truthful and appropriate information. It’s also important teaching everyday actions to reduce the spread of germs, reminding children to wash their hands often and stay away from people who are coughing or sneezing or sick. Remind them to cough or sneeze into a tissue or their elbow, then throw the tissue into the trash and wash their hands again. We are doing great! We hope to get back living in a world when COVID-19 is no longer a concern for anyone very soon. 20.01.2022 Independent Assessment Getting ready for next year... The NDIS is going to start using independent assessment to make it easier and make sure it is always fair for every NDIS participant. ... Assessments are how the NDIS work out how a disability affects participant's lives or what supports they need from the NDIS; done by someone who doesn't already know the participant and isn't the healthcare or the professional they usually see. The independent assessment will give more information to NDIS about participants such as their abilities, skills and everyday life management, helping the NDIS work out what supports better each participant. 19.01.2022 We hope we get back to live in a world where hugs are safe soon, but for now, it's still importante to remember... People with COVID-19 positive sharing home with others should limit their contact with them by: Staying alone in their own room... Using a different bathroom, if possible Avoiding shared areas Wearing a mask if they cannot avoid being in the same room as others Not being in the same room as other people, especially people at risk of severe disease (this includes elderly people and people with heart, lung, or kidney conditions and diabetes) Practising good hand hygiene and covering coughs and sneezes Frequently cleaning the house, especially things people touch often, like door handles. Not sharing household items such as: dishes, drinking glasses, cups, cutlery, towels, bedding. After using these items, wash them with soap and water or put them in a dishwasher or washing machine. When living with someone who is at risk, they should try to make arrangements for them to live elsewhere if possible. 15.01.2022 It's been a long way to finally see the Covid-19 daily new cases dropping in Melbourne. We are doing so well, but it is still very important to remember... A person with coronavirus (COVID-19) or who is suspected to have it must go into mandatory isolation. ... People need to isolate to prevent the spread of the virus to others if they have COVID-19 or if health authorities suspect they have COVID-19. People can need to be isolated in the hospital if they need hospital care, their homes if it is suitable or another location if needed as decided by the public health authority. Isolation means people must not leave their home except in an emergency or to get essential medical care, must not go into public places including work and shops, must not let any other person into their home unless the person lives there and cannot live somewhere else, is providing medical care or is entering for an emergency. People in isolation should tell their public health unit before leaving their house if they have to. If they leave, they must wear a mask. Monitor symptoms If symptoms get worse, it’s important phone a doctor. People with COVID-19 positive, should be on the lookout for high fevers or trouble breathing and keep in contact with the GP so they can monitor their health. People with serious symptoms should call 000 straight away. This includes shortness of breath, difficulty breathing or chest pressure or pain. Choosing a time when fewer people are likely to be there Wiping down your shopping trolley or basket with hand sanitiser or disinfectant many supermarkets are providing these items for customers to use before entering the store Using cards instead of cash Washing your hands or using hand sanitiser after leaving the store Shopping online and having your order delivered, contact free, is a handy way to stock up your fridge and pantry without leaving the house. Check with your supermarket to see if this service is available in your area. Assistance with grocery shopping and meals is still available for older people who may need support. 06.01.2022 Are you eating for health? The recommendations of the Australian Dietary Guidelines and Australian Guide to Healthy Eating help us choose foods for good health and to reduce our risk of chronic health problems. Eating Regularly... A planned pattern of eating is more likely to include the recommended number of serves from the five food groups. A spontaneous, unstructured eating pattern is more likely to include too many discretionary foods which means too much saturated fat, added sugars, added salt and kilojoules at the expense of fibre and important nutrients. Don't skip breakfast? People who regularly eat a breakfast based on wholegrain cereal or bread, low fat milk or yogurt and maybe some fruit or vegetables are much more likely to be eating well than those who skip breakfast. Eat with other people not TV We also know that people who eat with others and eat at the dining table, are more likely to eat regularly and eat well than those who eat alone or in front of the TV. Meals with others tend to include more foods from the five food groups. For example, people often report that they can’t be bothered cooking vegetables just for themselves. Good meal planning and making healthy choices can sometimes be tricky but a few useful tips can make it easier. 02.01.2022 People living in the same place as someone with COVID-19 will be a close contact and must follow quarantine rules.
