25.01.2022 What's the healthiest thing I eat? BURGERS! No not some turkey burger with kate and low-fat mayo with vegan cheese.... I mean ones with mac and cheese patties, hashbrowns, double bacon, cheese, pulled beef brisket, with onion rings and a side of loaded fries. This type of food is the food I reallllllyyyyy enjoy eating. So why do I consider it healthy? It makes me reconsider my weekly diet. It makes me eat as great as I can the other 80% of my life and still satisfy my craving for this deliciousness. It silences that voice in my head that says 'eat everything now.' I hold off a quick snack or that extra serve because I know I will get my fix of food soon. Time and time again, studies show how detrimental to our health neglecting and avoiding our favourite foods can be. To me, burgers are the healthiest thing I eat, because of the way they centre my thinking and keep me on track. Just like a quick pitstop on a 1000km race track. Refuelling for another dozen laps. Without it, I would only get so far before I gave up entirely and ate a small village worth of food. What's your delicious favourite food?

25.01.2022 Weight Loss Obstacle #7 STRESS! Shit doesn't work properly when you are stress. Now I hear this all the time "but I'm not stressed". The body can go through a stress response without you thinking that you are stressed. ... Working out, running around after kids, shitty sleep, big work hours, anxiety, etc. all make the body stressed. Being stressed out for too long and too frequently can make certain processes in your body turn off, or go on stand by mode. Not fully functioning to its full potential. Meaning it is using less energy. If the formula for fat loss is ingesting less energy than expending. Managing your stress would help you expend more calories each day. Not to mention it is much easier to stick to a diet when you're not ripping your hair out, run off your feet.

23.01.2022 Nothing makes you happier than when your kid falls asleep and you can actually do what you want to do. It's now your choice. Here's the problem though We are a walking, talking, manifestation of our choices.... When we do finally get time to make our own choices for that brief window, sometimes we go for the easy option of sitting down, laying in bed, napping, etc. We often do this because we are tired. This more often than not, results in further tiredness. But what if I told you there was a way to build more energy?? Exercise is a powerplant for energy. It builds more and more energy. I'm not saying everytime your kid naps, do 100 burpees. I just want to remind you that you are the choices you make. Want to change parts of your life? Change your choices.

23.01.2022 This is my little 'take back control' equation to ensure you have a healthy, happy life. One of the WORST feelings in the world is to feel powerless and anable to control the outcome. It is gutwrenching. The first thing to having power over your health is knowing caloires.... You don't have to count calories, but you have to understand that calories count. Regardless of what diet intervention you wish to follow (fasting, keto, low carb, calorie tracking) calories will always count. Just remember the end goal: A happy, healthy, long life

23.01.2022 Attention guys. My lovely Saturday morning boot camp will be cancelled today.. Hopefully see you all next weekend.

21.01.2022 Quote of the week. Have a great weekend.

20.01.2022 What’s the biggest contributing factors that has changed my physical and mental health for the better in the last year: * Reading and consuming content that betters my perspective and understanding * Eating more legumes and fibre * Improved sleep routine, hygiene and quality... * Changing my training routine so that I am not so sore after my workouts that I don’t want to train. * Sunlight! Was never a sun person until this year. I wish someone sat me down and told me I could feel this good years ago just by doing these simple things. I am kicking myself for it starting sooner but I am so happy I have done these. Now I can dive into the benefits for each of these, hormones, gut heath, weight loss, etc. but I can’t type that much, haha. Come along to my Healthy Balanced Lifestyle chat. Friday 30th October 6:30pm @ Beachbodies Health Club. Register here: https://mailchi.mp/jakefit/workshop

19.01.2022 What are you willing to work on and put your focus into? Working is hard Relationships are hard Fitness is hard... Raising children is hard Maintaining a household is hard Eating healthy is hard All these require effort and focus if you want to see a great outcome. Trying to hit all of these is dam near impossible. Like trying to catch a unicorn. But aiming to get them all somewhat passable. To get them all moving in the right direction. That's what we call 'balance' and that we can do. Spread your investments out, don't put them all in one basket. We aren't aiming for perfect. Just like high school, all we need is a 'passing grade'.

18.01.2022 Weight loss obstacle #23 You get sick or injured. This becomes a HUGE obstacle I see a lot. It could come from the change of routine, change of diet, going too hard too fast, or whatever. But usually, within the first month of someone trying to lose body fat, they get sick or injured.... I see this so much and at the time when you're creating a new routine and doing new habits that you're not used to yet, it is the worst time to come down with either of these issues. Then what usually follows is we put it in the 'too hard' basket and put it down to a failed attempt or 'we fell off the wagon'. It's such a major obstacle that we need to overcome in order to change our lives and I am going to tell you the trick to reducing your chances of it happening to you. 1.Sleep 2.Sunlight 3.Meditation/Relaxation 4.High Protein Diet 5.More is not more More working out and more exercise is not always going to give you more return. There's a sweet spot and only a finite amount of exercise we can recover from. Keep that in mind and think of a marathon runner. If they came off the line sprinting just because they 'can' they won't make it past the 5km mark. Slow and steady. There is a long race in front of you.

17.01.2022 Things I like about being a dad: Finishing off their meals at restaurants because I paid for that dam food. Embarresing the crap out of them. Wait until my fluro pink Speedo gets here. Seeing them grow up and copying you.... Checking every milkshake, frozen drink and fizzy for 'poison' Having slaves that help me carry and clean stuff. Feeding their passions and interests. Won't trade it for the world

16.01.2022 Question: Jake, why do you love hip thrusts so much? Answer: Hip thrusts are a fantastic exercise that puts little to no pressure through the knee joint as it stays at roughly 90 degrees throughout the movement and isn't impacted by tightness from ankles or hips. It is my number one leg exercise for a person that suffers knee issues to build, maintain and strengthen leg muscles in a safe manner. ... The glutes, at the peak of the lift, where they are most active, hold the majority of the weight, unlike squats or deadlifts. They provide great strength in the hips and tend NOT to keep feeding muscular inbalances. There aren't too many people who wouldn't be suited for hip thrusts. Whereas in squats and deadlifts you have issues like femur length being too long, ankles mobility and hip flexors being overly tight that can impact the exercise. Hip thrusts are one of the most (if not the most) versatile leg exercise. It can benefit and work for males, females, tall, short, young, old, etc. It can be altered to be isolateral focused (one side at a time), glute focused (bum muscle), or compound focused (quad, hamstring and glute) It is just a fantastic leg exercise and a staple in any leg workout.

15.01.2022 Life equation: Low energy = low mind state Low mind state = negative thoughts... With low energy: We can struggle to not compare ourselves to others. We can struggle to not react emotionally. We can start to interpret words differently. What increases our energy: A good nutritious diet Exercise Mediation and mindfulness Sunlight Quality sleep For more like this come along to my healthy balanced lifestyle chat: https://mailchi.mp/jakefit/workshop

15.01.2022 Common opinion: People will look at me when I workout in a gym Reality: People are looking at themselves and focusing on them Common opinion: I look weird when I lift weights... Reality: Everyone looks weird when they lift, it's okay Common opinion: Lifting weights will make me bulky Reality: I once trained hard for 12 months and ate right to add 1kg of muscle. You don't have to worry about that. Common opinion: I don't have the energy to workout Reality: Working out is an energy generator. It creates energy. You just need to kick start it. Common opinion: Fruit is high in sugar Reality: Ain't no one got obsese from eating 'too much' fruit For more reality checks keep on following

13.01.2022 Why is there so much misinformation in the health and fitness industry? The simple answer is its still just a toddler. It honestly hasn't been around that long and is teething, throwing tantrums, pulling hair and playing that game where they throw something out of the pram just to watch you pick it up again (essentially fetch but you're the puppy).... The things we thought were correct 5 years ago have now been studied and found to not be. The thinking we had in terms of fat loss has changed, muscle growth, mental health, etc. It is still finding its feet. The problems begin to come out when people don't change with the industry and change with the new information and studies. When they have closed mindsets. OR They decide to capitalise on the misinformation and market quick-fix weight loss solutions that only seem to make you lose water/glycogen stores with ZERO body fat lost. It's a forever changing industry at this point with new studies and research coming out every year. Keep an open mind.

05.01.2022 I love Facebook memories that pop up and let you know what stupid stuff you used to post. Sometimes we get lost in where we are at right now in this tiny snapshot in time and take it way out of the context that is our lives. These little memories pop and say, "Lol, you think you aren't where you want to be now but look where you've come from. Look at how stupid you used to be and your terrible spelling mistakes. There are 3 different types of 'there' and also a difference be...tween 'your' and 'you're'. The point is, you've travelled incredibly far and you're heading in the right direction" Think of this: If you grew up poor but became a millionaire, you would be finacially happy. If you grew up a billionaire and became a millionaire, you would be financially unhappy. Both are millionaires. It's the directions that changed. Direction is always the most important factor.
