22.01.2022 There’s always one calf that upsets Mum by going through a fence while the herd moves. Rum, Hope this is a once off.

18.01.2022 Hmmm so Jalaway No name Bella doesn’t seem too impressed with the World. Not surprising when your home is one big water covered bog hole.

16.01.2022 Moving the herd today. More images in comments.

15.01.2022 Some of the herd tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was another calf or 2 in the morning. Haz has that half asleep face of the very pregnant. My guess is she’s still a good few weeks away. Her daughter, Agatha has been in the trees most of the time watching the calves arrive. I think she’s learning her craft.

15.01.2022 Seymour field days - Day 1 Introducing the Belties to some lovely visitors. Great day today meeting new people and catching up with old friends. Here are a few pics of the day. Jalaway Bewaldeth Revelry was a star, and took centre stage happily having many pats and much attention. ... Started the day with a surprise on the front verandah of the BnB. See more

15.01.2022 Jalaway Prince Neander is certainly the colour producer. 6 from 8 calves are Dun so far. Some of his bubs.

13.01.2022 Day 2 of Seymour Field Days Some fun and games to start the day. OMG the Balytyckle bull wants to dig his way home!!!!!!!!! I’m glad I didn’t have to get him clean again. lol. One of our heifers managed to undo her clip while she was tied up outside and went off for a play. Thanks for catching her Ken.

13.01.2022 This calf just takes your eye every time. Nearly 3 weeks old. R7 seems a shame he’s destined to be a steer. Dam: Jalaway Next Bonnie Sire: Jalaway Playboy Affair

12.01.2022 End of Day 2 at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo. Finally had a minute to take a post of our set up. Talking to people on stop. So not many photos-sorry.

11.01.2022 This little fella didn’t have the best first 12 hours of life. Somehow he got through the fence and in with a few of the others. I think he was born overnight and probably did it when he was learning to stand and control his legs. All our fences are electric so his poor dam couldn’t follow. Lucky our vigilant neighbour spotted him and let us know he didn’t look right. Sitting on his own in the sun while everyone else in the paddock was far away in the shade. Reunited with Mum for a few days rest and recharge together in the yards. He’s now going great guns! Mum has been seen by 4 different Vets and specialists for her lameness in the front. It is definitely not foot. I think she wrenched her shoulder in the mud of the dam during the drought. She has started on turmeric which we are hoping will help her heal.

11.01.2022 At Jalaway Belted Galloway Beef, we are focused on quality, structure, beef and carcass and of course Temperament. We had made the decision not to keep any bulls this year. The arrival of a very well bred potential Dun bull today has me pondering Is there any interest in a Dun bull? He is out of Jalaway Show Me (Royal Show Supreme Champion) And by... Jalaway Prince Neander (Royal Show Supreme Champion) I will not make a decision on whether he is bull worthy until he is much older. I don’t believe it is a good idea to make a call on a bull as a baby calf or based on genetics alone. To keep those nuts he must tick all the boxes at and beyond weaning. Really I’m only looking for expressions of interest. Location. Gippsland, Victoria Australia. Pic is a heifer from the same sire. He’s only just arrived and I’d like Mum to bond and do her job without annoying her for pictures. See more

10.01.2022 Sorry for more calf spam. Jalaway Bewaldeth Jubilee’s heifer. Sire: Jalaway Prince Neander. Very happy so far with this bub. Such a shame she won’t take a trip to Melbourne Show with Mum.

09.01.2022 What sound is music to a beef farmers ears? That wonderful sucking sound of a belly full of milk at a few hours old. This is why the Jalaway Belted Galloway gi...rls do it so well. This is a first calving heifer. Freezing day with cold wind and showers. She got the job done, no fuss. Straight into cleaning her calf and looking after him to go straight on for a feed. That’s a maternal cow. Exactly what we like to see. She shows all the signs of a magnificent udder that is balanced but not too large just like her granddam , Bonnie. (Bonnie still had a stunning udder at 16 with a perfect suspensory ligament. Breeding for Quality! See more

08.01.2022 We will have heifers and cows available for new herds shortly. Please register any interest now with some idea of what you are looking for by message email [email protected] or phone on 0429796586 Dun heifer PTIC to Jalaway Mont Mandalay and steers of different ages are available now.

08.01.2022 More herd pics from a lovely afternoon. Principal photo is a first calving heifer that calved nearly 3 weeks ago. Jalaway Next Bonnie. She’s looking more and more like her Grand Dam my foundation cow, Bonnie. Same textbook udder. Same phenomenal growth in her calf. Breed them right and they keep delivering the goods. The rest are random calf pics.

06.01.2022 Start of Day 2 of Seymour Field Days Finally remembered to post a pic of the PVC hay bags from Equine Apparel Australia I love them. Easy to clean. Easy to fill. Cattle eat well out of them with little mess. Thanks Dale Williamson

06.01.2022 Another first calving heifer does it easy. She’s been looking close for days and this morning it happened! Calf is up and playing with Scanda already. Feeding well and ticking all the boxes. Pryor let us check but wants to bond with bub as she should do. Not sure what it is but no black at the umbilicus so we’re hoping it’s a heifer. Dam: Jalaway Pryor Affair Sire Jalaway Mont Mandalay EDIT: it’s a heifer!
