25.01.2022 Seal Bay NOW CLOSED as a precaution

24.01.2022 7.30AM UPDATE: There will be a community meeting at the Kingscote Town Hall at 10.30am. The KI fire is at Watch and Act but still burning uncontained west of a ...line between Emu Bay and Seal Bay. The CFS will be assessing damage this morning. The fire reached the golf course at Parndana but the town remains undamaged. There are extensive losses throughout the western end of the Island including Flinders Chase and lodges etc on the south coast. Infrastructure including mobile phone towers has also been damaged, also the SA Water treatment plant. We will be live streaming from the meeting. See more

24.01.2022 12AM update: Just spoke to the CFS and the Emergency warning area now extends in a line from Emu Bay to Seal Bay. The fire could potentially impact on anywhere ...in that area in the next two hours. Thankfully conditions are expected to moderate overnight. Everywhere east of that line remains at Watch and Act. Kingscote and Penneshaw are the bushfire safe places. Please be aware of your surroundings. Reports are the fire has now burned through at least 150,000 hectares. See more

18.01.2022 TRAVEL TO KANGAROO ISLAND - 10/01/2020 In an effort to ensure the safety of visitors to Kangaroo Island, SA Country Fire Service has advised SeaLink only transp...ort freight, local residents and Emergency Services personnel to Kangaroo Island. This decision was not made lightly. CFS will be in discussions with SeaLink throughout today to reconsider this decision, which affected the final two ferries yesterday. With unpredictable fire activity overnight and further asset losses today, SA Country Fire Service is aware that additional emergency services personnel and the local resident’s relocations have placed considerable stress on local resources. The decision to limit visitors to Kangaroo Island was made with the safety of those visitors as a priority to ensure that people did not arrive to find their accommodation either unreachable due to road blocks, or unavailable. The normal ferry service will resume as soon as safe to do so. CFS is acutely aware of the need for the Island to resume normal activities, including restoring the tourism economy to the area.

16.01.2022 Although Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island was severely affected by the recent bushfires, the park’s iconic sites of Cape du Couedic Lighthouse, A...dmirals Arch (home to a colony of long-nosed fur seals) as well as Remarkable Rocks are looking good. We are now working hard to allow public access to these sites with tourism operators as soon as it is safe. --- --- Natural Resources Kangaroo Island | SA Recovery | Authentic Kangaroo Island | #KangarooIsland | #BushfireRecoverySA | #BookThemOut

05.01.2022 For all of our visitors that were staying when this monster started and for the people that had to cancel their holiday. Here is a little video to show the devastation that our family and many others went through at a time that should have been full of love and laughter. Thank you for being so understanding and hope the people that had to cancel will one day plan another visit and come and stay at our little village

04.01.2022 We all need to do our bit to stop the spread of this virus. We still have tourists coming to the island daily. We need you to stop, we don’t have the facilities... at our hospital, we don’t have an ICU to cope or put patients. If your thinking of coming reschedule do the responsible thing to flatten the curve. #stayathome See more

02.01.2022 Residents and visitors on Kangaroo Island must limit mains water use to essential activities such as staying hydrated, flushing toilets and basic cleaning. Insp...ections of the Middle River Water Treatment Plant this afternoon have confirmed significant fire damage and our team has already begun sourcing equipment and materials to complete repairs. Limiting all non-essential mains water use is important, as we don’t yet know how long it will take to bring the treatment plant back online to replenish water storages. With evidence of ash around the Middle River treated water storage tank, customers in Parndana and country lands outside of Kingscote may notice a smokey taste and odour to their drinking water. SA Health confirms this water remains safe to drink. If water supplies are interrupted to any parts of the network, we will provide alternate temporary drinking water supplies for collection. If you need urgent assistance, please call us on 1300 SA WATER.

02.01.2022 So much devastation
