25.01.2022 2nd Commando Regiment & Iraq’s Counter Terrorism Forces Australian SOCOMD has a long-standing relationship with Iraq’s Counter Terrorism Service (ICTS). To counter the threat posed by #daesh, in late 2014 Australia sent it’s first rotation of Special Forces troops from 2nd Commando Regiment in a ‘train, advise and assist’ role. One ‘tactical bound’ back from the front line, at the height of the war 1st ISOF’s deputy commander says of the Aussies: on a normal day, they would ...treat 25 wounded men from various bullet and blast injuries. On a heavy day 50 or more. While this was happening the commando JTAC’s were dishing out close air support like it was free with some controllers getting off up to 50 air strikes in a day. Australia’s 2nd Commando Regiment is still there today, working with their Iraqi partners to help prevent an #ISIS resurgence and to combat any insurgency. #jamegumbleather is proud to see these two presentos hanging pride of place in the entrance of 2nd Special Tactics Unit’s Headquarters in Baghdad. #specialforces #australianspecialforces #iraqispecialforces #ictf #isof #iraq #iraqiarmy #standwithisof #brotherhood #fiftycal #m67 #specialoperations #sof #sf #adf #army #2ndcommandoregiment #commando #forasadmonitio #socomd #withoutwarning #veteran #australianmilitary #alphacompany #valknut #raaf #counterterrorism #specialunit

25.01.2022 Royal Australian Engineers Corps There’s not enough room on the page to list the myriad of tasks that the humble Australian engineer, or ‘sapper’, performs. Though their official motto is ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense’ ‘evil be to him who evil thinks’, we reckon that their motto should still be: ‘we make and we break’. They build bridges, roads and defensive obstacles and they are responsible for destroying the same through the execution of controlled demolitions tasks. Respon...sible for breaching and clearing minefields since World War II, in the modern world the sapper has been on the forefront of the counter IED battle in the Global War on Terror in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Here’s to all the men and women of the Royal Australian Engineers Tobruk to Tarin Kowt. #australianarmy #adf #australianmilitary #army #royalaustralianengineers #sapper #armtcorpsogengineers #armyengineers #engineers #ied #eod #gwot #veteran #jamegumbleather #avob See more

25.01.2022 Special Operations Logistics Squadron (SOLS) Fact: For every one heavy hitting operator doing jumping side-kicks through doors while wielding dual suppressed pistols in night vision gear, there are four support staff keeping him in the field. Think of them as the ‘pit crew’ for an F1 racing car. Although a relatively new organisation, SOLS is proud of its short history. They are the mechanics that pimp the rides of SOCOMD extensive fleet of vehicles. They are armourers that m...aintain and modify the guns and weapon systems that go into battle. They are the drivers, quartermasters and logisticians that move SOCOMD’s people and equipment all over the globe. Like General Robert Barrow said: amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics. Disclaimer: Personnel and equipment only guaranteed to get into ‘any country around the world’ so long as that country is the long-standing base that Australia has been operating out of in the UAE since 2008. All travel must be on the standard scheduled ADF sustainment flights. Any and all modification of weapons and vehicles must conform to wider Army’s exhaustive and restrictive regulations and protocols. #army #adf #australianarmy #australianmilitary #cssb #armymechanic #activeduty #veteran #jamegumbleather See more

22.01.2022 Japan's Special Operations Group (JSOG) + 2 Commando Regiment Some of the boys from 2 Commando Regiment’s Tactical Assault Group are off to Japan to continue their partnership with Japan’s Special Operations Group (JSOG). (Having seen the run on team now is probably your time to buy shares in a saké company, ladies and gentlemen). JSOG is the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s counter-terrorist unit established by the former Japanese Defense Agency to counter terrorist activit...ies and deter guerrilla style attacks on Japanese soil. To the boys going to the ‘land of the rising sun’ and their hosts - ‘kanpai!’ On an interesting side note, the two swords in the picture above were captured by 10 Commando Squadron in the Wewak area of New Guinea in 1945. 22.01.2022 So your country decides to pull all of its combat troops out of Afghanistan. What are you going to do? Well, you could grow a beard, piss and moan on social media and tell anyone that will listen that we were winning when I left, or you could just get a two year exchange with 1st US Special Forces Group and get back to your old stomping ground with them like Mark did. According to the good folks at the ABC, Mark is an Australian Special Forces soldier who managed to sco...re a working holiday in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province about 5 years after the rest of his mates pulled up stumps and headed for home. We’re told that these going away gifts were well received by his new green beret mates at 1st SFG. We’re looking forward to hearing how this little camping trip turned out. #australiancommando #2ndcommandoregiment #australianspecialforces #specialoperations #specialforces #adf #sf #sof #australianmilitary #australianinfantry #forasadmonitio #withoutwarning #oda #greenberet #ussf #1sfg #deoppressoliber #activeduty #veteran #army #ussocom #jamegumbleather See more

22.01.2022 Special Operations Training and Education Centre How do you make an Australian SF operator? Ideally you’d raise them and train them from the time they were born like they did with Kurt Russell in that movie Soldier (the one where he only spoke 104 words). Due to the inevitable legal and moral issues, Australia just gets Special Operations Training & Education Centre (SOTEC) to make them out of every day soldiers. Formerly the Special Forces Training Centre, SOTEC is responsib...le for selecting & training future commandos for service in SOCOMD. In addition to teaching all the requisite man-skills like survival, demolitions and close quarter battle, SOTEC is also responsible for running ‘soft’ skills like foreign language training and promotion courses for SOCOMD members. Under manned, underpaid and over tasked, they are the miracle workers of SOCOMD. #australiancommandos #2ndcommandoregiment #australianspecialforces #specialoperations #sof #sf #adf #specialforces #specialforcestraining #australianmilitary #jamegumbleather #operators #activeduty #cansofcom #cansof #selection See more

18.01.2022 When the Germans do something they usually do it well. Be it firearms, cars or beer, everything the Germans produce tends to be top notch and their police and military are no exceptions. Grenzschutzgruppe 9, internationally known as GSG 9, is the elite Police Tactical Unit of the German Federal Police. Recently a few of the guys from Australia’s 2nd Commando Regiment’s Tactical Assault Group headed off to Germany for a counter terrorism symposium held at the same time as Ok...toberfest none-the-less! Good work if you can get it. 17.01.2022 Let’s say that you have a 10,000-acre property that backs onto a national park. Let’s also imagine that you have a problem with miscreants poaching on said property. What better way to address your problem than to get in contact with an Aussie veteran (who in this case we’ll call ‘Damo’) & ask him if he’d like to use your property to allow veterans to use your property as a retreat where they can get together, have a few beers, go hunting & camping in exchange for providing s...ome ad hoc ‘clearing patrols’ to keep an eye out for said trespassers? Sounds win-win to us. As Damo put it: These skins were created as a token of appreciation for a guy who has provided access for a group of veterans to his private property. As veterans, tribe is important; access to private property provides sanctuary for us to go, relax & catch up with a group of mates. These roo skins make a unique and fitting memento! Just a warning order to Damo that he can expect an impromptu ‘business trip’ from the Jame Gumb team some time in the near future #hunting #camping #veteran #activeduty #sof #sf #australianarmy #sasr #1commandoregiment #2commando #whodareswins #forasadmonitio #strikeswiftly #army #winklerknives

15.01.2022 Now a good friend of ours at #jamegubleather, who we’ll call 'Barry', knows a thing or two about slinging lead out to ranges that would take the average man 5 mins to run. In fact back when he was in #2commandoregiment he was arranging meetings between extremists and their 72 virgins like some kind of #precisionrifle enabled Tinder service. So when Barry returned from a recent trip to the #riflesonly ranch raving about the professional instructors and great atmosphere there, ...we listened. Indeed, Barry isn’t the first of our mates to praise the strong focus on fundamentals and real-world positional shooting at Rifles Only, and he probably won’t be the last. Especially because right next door at #wildhorsedistillery, the folks from Rifles Only also produce Texas Rums as smooth as a hand-lapped barrel. These hand crafted bottles of pirate juice are disappearing from the shelves faster than VLDs pushed by a handful of Varget powder. We sure hope to get ourselves over there eventually too! #sniper #longrangeshooting #rifles #ballistics #lapua #schmidtandbender #AppliedBallistics #laruetactical #mannersstocks #stilleractions #multicam #shootingtraining

15.01.2022 A not-so-long time ago, in what might as well be a galaxy far, far away (okay, north western Iraq), a bunch of Australians from 2nd Commando Regiment handed over their base, their partner force and their Train, Advise, Assist mission to a US Navy SEAL Team. One of Jame Gumb’s owners gave out a few of these kangaroo skins to some of these frogmen-out-of-water. In return they gave him an awesome Half Face Blade knife that it seemed almost every SEAL was running on their fightin...g kit. A massive thanks to ‘Dirty Mike and the boys’. 15.01.2022 Tactical Assault Group East Following the September 11 attacks it was decided that Australia would raise a second Tactical Assault Group on the east coast of Australia to augment the capability that up until then had been maintained by The Special Air Service Regiment on the west coast of the country. Designated as Tactical Assault Group - East, or TAG East, the group was raised on 22 July 2002. Their mission was as simple then as it is today: to resolve domestic counter te...rrorism incidents, on land and at sea, that are beyond the capabilities of state and federal police tactical groups. Simply put, TAG East is Australia’s force of last resort in the event of a domestic terrorism incident where mission failure is not an option. The TAG still exists to this day manned by the men of 2nd Commando Regiment and Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers. Army and Navy working together in special operations just like the original ‘Z Special Unit’ of World War II. The TAG East unofficial emblem sports the standard dive helmet of the RAN contingent along with the Sykes Fairbairn stiletto and double diamonds of the commandos. To all the blokes who have ever donned the ‘gassie’ and black suit: Ready, ready. Ready, ready. Ready. Stand by.Go! Go! 14.01.2022 Special Forces Training Centre It was a simpler time. A time where moustachioed instructors said what they meant. A time when you could call use the term ‘killing ground’ instead of ‘Engagement Area’ when planning ambushes and men gave patrol orders out of field message notebooks instead of off of a PowerPoint presentation. Back then Special Operations Training and education Centre (SOTEC) was simply the Special Forces Training Centre (SFTC). Personally, we here at Jame Gumb Leather preferred the old name and emblem, but officers don’t get medals for not unnecessarily creating new acronyms. #australiancommandos #2ndcommandoregiment #australianspecialforces #specialoperations #sof #sf #adf #sasr #specialforces #australianmilitary #operator #activeduty #selection #specialforcestraining #jamegumbleather #veteran

11.01.2022 Strike the enemy at a time or place, or in a manner for which he is unprepared. So sayeth the US Doctrine for Joint Special Operations. 2nd Commando Regiment has the ability to lodge itself into anywhere in the world by sea, air or land. Another tool in the ol’ kit bag for turning up uninvited is the ability to scale massive cliffs and hunt bad guys up above the snow line. Mountain and Cold Weather Operations or MACWO as it is known is the capability that enables operat...ors to insert, extract and survive for extended periods in some of the most inhospitable terrain in the world. A while back a few of 2 Commando Regiment’s MACWO instructors went to Switzerland for an exercise with the UK Royal Marine Commando Mountain Leader Cell. In between drinking beer and skiing we hear they even did some mountain climbing when they were there! 11.01.2022 Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) ‘Skippy Badge’ Originally formed in 1948, the trusty ‘skippy badge’ is the hat badge of The Royal Australian Regiment - the parent regiment for Australia’s regular infantry battalions. It doesn’t matter what the conflict - Korea, Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. The men of the RAR have always punched well above their weight, putting the mission before themselves and living up to their motto: Duty First. If you can ...find something more Australian than a skippy badge tattooed onto an actual kangaroo skin, we’d like to see it! 10.01.2022 Take time today at 11am to remember. Not to celebrate war or to laud the victors. Today try to remember a generation that suffered beyond what modern society could possibly comprehend. 100 years ago today the guns of the First World War fell silent after what had until that time been the most costly and bloody war that the world had ever seen. Over 37 million people died. For Australia in remains our costliest conflict ever. From a young nation of less than 5 million people,... 416,809 answered the call to service. The Pyrrhic victory cost Australia over 60,000 killed, buried on foreign soil, many with no known grave. A further 156,000 would be wounded or gassed, many of them on multiple occasions. In a nation so small, there wasn’t a household that didn’t lose a loved one or know people that had. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget. #remembranceday #lestweforget #anzac #armisticeday #veteransday #nzdf #remembranceday2018 #veteransday2018 #100years

09.01.2022 Royal Australian Infantry Corps To seek out and close with the enemy, to kill or capture him, to seize and hold ground and to repel attack by day or night, regardless of season, weather or terrain. It is a mission statement as old as war itself. In the profession of bullets, barbed wire and bombs the Australian infantryman has always enjoyed a fearsome reputation. 08.01.2022 EODMU FIVE + Special Operations Engineer Regiment Anyone can dispose of a bomb...once. However, if your plan is to not turn yourself into a meat firework in the process and maybe do it over and over again as a profession, you could look at doing it at SOER if you are an Australian or perhaps as part of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) if you’re American. EODMU FIVE is located on the ‘sunny tropical island’ that is Guam. Their job is to locate, identify, rend...er safe and remove conventional chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, and improvised explosive hazards. EODMU FIVE enables access for naval, ground and special operations forces to assigned areas mostly within the Western Pacific theatre of Operations. 03.01.2022 Australian SOCOMD They’re the ones who carry out the most difficult, sensitive and secret military missions in support of Australia’s national interests. Although Australia has used Special Forces since World War II, it wasn’t until the aftermath of the Bali bombings in which 88 Australians died that Australia directed the establishment of a Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) in order to enhance Australia’s ability to use non-conventional war fighting means to respond to the... asymmetric threat of terrorism. Today SOCOMD encompasses the following units: Special Operations Headquarters Special Air Service Regiment 1st Commando Regiment 2nd Commando Regiment Special Operations Engineer Regiment Special Operations Logistics Squadron Special Operations Training and Education Centre Parachute Training School Since its rebirth in 2003 Australia’s SOCOMD has grown in every conceivable way from funding and personnel to global reach and deployments. #australianspecialforces #specialforces #specialoperations #sof #sf #adf #army #sas #sasr #2commandoregiment #australiancommandos #commando #2cdo #1cdo #SOER #SOLS #veteran #activeduty #socom #glock #benchmade

03.01.2022 Royal Australian Armoured Corps Firepower, mobility, protection & networked situational awareness to generate shock action & overmatch in close combat. This, according to every armoured corps member on every Army promotion course ever, is what The Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC) brings to Australia’s combined arms approach to warfare. The RAAC has its origins in the Australian Tank Corps, which was formed in 1928. The Australian Armoured Corps was formed on 9 July 1941... to administer those personnel whose primary function is to operate, instruct or manage Army's Armoured Fighting Vehicles. As a result of the increasing mechanisation of the Army, the Armoured Corps absorbed the Australian Light Horse, Australia's famed ‘mounted infantry’ of World War One, on 8 May 1942. The Armoured Corps was granted the 'Royal' prefix in 1948 in recognition of its service during the Second World War. Today the RAAC has four Regular Army units & five Army Reserve units encompassing tanks, LAVs, APCs and Bushmaster, & despite not having deployed a main battle tank overseas since Vietnam, is apparently the senior arms corps within the Army & the custodian of the customs & traditions of Australia's mounted soldiers. #australianarmy #army #armyreserve #aslav #armour #cavalry #1starmouredregiment #2ndcavalryregiment #a1a1abrams #tankers #bestjobieverhad #fury #m1a1 #veteran #tank #adf #military #australianmilitary

01.01.2022 Iraqi Special Operations Forces (ISOF) Iraq’s elite Counter Terror Services (CTS) were originally raised and trained for domestic anti-terror raids by US Army Green Berets. That all changed in the summer of 2014. The nation of Iraq was staring into the abyss as conventional Army resistance all but evaporated in the face of a bunch of goat-aficionados called #ISIS. They rolled through northern Iraq and Syria like the human equivalent of dysentery-grade-diarrhea, eventually tak...ing over a third of the country. CTS, or the ‘Golden Division’ as they became known, spearheaded an offensive that took them through some of the most sustained, high intensity urban warfare the world had seen since the Second World War Fallujah, Ramadi, Tikrit. Eventually they were the first troops into the last Daesh stronghold of Mosul. By doing the work of regular infantry shock troops instead of the specialised missions that they were originally trained for, their victory came at a terrible cost. The Government of Iraq still won’t say how many CTS soldiers died, but estimates vary that between 40 and 60 per cent of its soldiers were killed or wounded saving the country. One of #jamegumleather‘s owners recently presented these two skins to 1st ISOF’s commander and his deputy.
