23.01.2022 Herringbone Flooring Warm, sustainable and long lasting. Local Tasmanian Oak - beautiful. [email protected]
17.01.2022 Charlie's Kitchen Island and Dining Table. Made from reclaimed Red Gum and ply. Eucalyptus camaldulensis (aka Satin Walnut) is found along many waterways withi...n Australia. The seeds germinate readily after floods and require regular spring floods throughout their life to survive. Famous as the Barmah Red Gum Forests in the Murray-Darling Basin, where such floods are now rare and 75% of River red gums in the lower Murray are stressed, dead or dying. In Tasmania we still have a few floods! The colour of Red Gum ranges from a light pink through to almost black, depending on the age and weathering. It is can be a bit brittle and is often cross-grained, making hand working a challenge. Traditionally used fence posts and sleepers, it's value is starting to be appreciated for furniture. In addition, this wood is used for beehives and to produce flooring and decks (Patagonian cherry) and wooden floors (Andean cherry). I loved working on this with Charlie - if you have any projects coming up, reclaimed wood you'd like to think about using or even a felled tree or are thinking of felling please get in touch [email protected]
16.01.2022 THOUGHT THROUGH WOOD Building bespoke solid wood kitchens takes a bit longer and costs a bit more. Using local and reclaimed woods, the kitchens can be painted or oiled. Tough enough to withstand the odd knock, the kitchens can always be repaired or oiled and, after a few years, a gentle patina of life builds. Research by Planet Ark has shown that choosing timber for your home is actually good for you and your family - as their report explains:... http://makeitwood.org//doc-1253-wood--housing--health--hum

01.01.2022 Turning your trees into furniture. If you have a felled tree or are thinking of felling a tree and would like to find out about turning it into bespoke furniture, a new kitchen or even a glasshouse please get in touch. This is a longterm project - the wood may need to age for a couple of years! We can work out what you want to achieve and ensure the wood is suitable and get it planked and start the process. Look forward to hearing from you. James
