24.01.2022 Hanging out in Western Sydney all this week with Russ the Story Bus! Thanks, Sydney Writers' Festival - bringing book-based excitement into the lives of hundreds - no, thousands - of kids! #russthebus

22.01.2022 Good afternoon, folks! I'm happy to announce that I'll be visiting Melbourne again from 31 July to 11 August this year. I always enjoy heading south, and previous tours have always been solidly booked and tremendously rewarding. A couple of days are already tentatively booked, and I'd love to hear from anyone who'd like to organise a school visit (or even a book group talk). I'm available for workshops and author talks for all ages, so drop me a line with any questions and I'll get straight back to you. Thanks James.

19.01.2022 WestWords has a new ambassador - Bryan Brown. A lovely article about Bryan and the project I was involved in, in which we put kids from Granville High and Lightning Ridge Central School together.

17.01.2022 Today Russ the Story Bus is in South Windsor.

17.01.2022 Can't wait to get my hands on this. I hear that one of the stories, "Every Bloody Bastard Needs to Drink" is a bloody corker. Sponsor it! Crowd-fund it! $22 gets you a signed copy!

17.01.2022 An interesting take on teaching creative writing to children by Jackie French and Mem Fox.

10.01.2022 Storytelling is a funny beast. Sometimes it takes a thousand words, sometimes it takes fifty, sometimes many thousands. Sometimes it takes none. And sometimes, like this image, it uses no words, but needs a little help. In isolation, this shot by Alex Ellinghausen is fairly straightforward: a female politician makes a speech as a number of men show minimal sorry, zero interest. But the context of this photo is what makes it so powerful: Julia Banks, a Liberal Party MP who h...as made numerous accusations of bullying and sexism within the party, has finally had enough, and stands to resign from the party, citing sexism as one of her main reasons. It’s within this context that the image uses blunt-force irony to make a savage point. It uses minimalist storytelling to devastating effect, speaking far more effectively than a hundred pages of Hansard can ever hope to do. See more

If you know of a book released this year that should get the attention of the people at the ABC Book Club, perhaps you could enter its details here... I'm not suggesting any ONE book in particular - there must be a THOUSAND or more. But up here in the ... HILLS we do love our books... http://www.abc.net.au/tv/firsttuesday/fiveofthebest/
