25.01.2022 Are you self concious about the way you look, or maybe have ugly children but still want a nice family photo taken? Well here at James Braszell Photography I've got you sorted! All you need is a good country sunset and just let me do the rest - no visible faces required! (That is of course a joke, I promise you're all beautiful, and so are your kids). In all seriousness though, I've always wanted to try a photo like this, and tonight we had one of those sunsets the Hay Plains... is so famous for. A little different, but definitely one of my favourite family photos I've taken on my trip! See more

24.01.2022 Arranging wedding dates for next year (as well as looking forward to my first one for this year in a little over a week) has me giving a word of advice for couples out there: Dipping your Mrs for a nice photo is all well and good in theory, but in practice it is much harder - just ask Justin and Hannah!

23.01.2022 Anyone else go Four wheel driving with their new Bride, and when you break down, you just make out in the grass at Sunset? Thats candid photography, right?

23.01.2022 Shearing Lambs in the middle of springtime - who wouldn't be smiling?

23.01.2022 I had a request recently for more photos of Shearers actually SHEARING sheep, so I best keep the followers happy! I actually forgot I took this one of Squeak a couple of weeks back, so tonight is the perfect time to post it. What would you all like to see more photos of - Any requests Ladies & Gents?

21.01.2022 If you’re a groom and don’t have mates like this, are your groomsmen really your mates? I think I actually only posed one of these photos, the rest is just a classic case of boys will be boys! The top left photo might look a bit weird for a bunch of guys, but when you go to bed at 4.30am the night before the wedding, any chance to lie down during a day of photography modelling is a bonus.

21.01.2022 I've shorn with him, shorn for him, formed and played in a band with him, but never snapped a photo of him - until today. Shearer, Farmer, Guitarist and Singer, He's Lexton's very own all round good bloke Brad Sandlandt.

20.01.2022 How freaking awesome would it be to have seen this Woolshed in action. Toganmain has an amazing history and every time I go through my photos from my visit there, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed that we will never again get to see it in full flight. It would've been a little city of its own in the middle of nowhere, with hundreds, maybe even thousands of people passing through the property in a matter of weeks during shearing time in its Hey-Day. ... Australian history at it's finest.

20.01.2022 Raise your hand if you're getting married in 2021! I'm on the hunt for more weddings to shoot next year, and with 2 more booked in since Monday I've even surprised myself with the interest I've had since posting Lauren & Clintons photos recently. I've got two interstate weddings already booked in so far for next year, so don't feel like you're ever too far away from me! ... Contact me today to find out more, or visit my website on the link below https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

19.01.2022 There’s a big few weekends in the photo game ahead Guys and Gals! A surprise photoshoot this weekend will fill in my Saturday afternoon (and you can surprise someone this Christmas with a gift card that can be redeemed for a photoshoot from my website on the link below). More family shoots, as well as my first wedding of the year are slotted in for my next couple of weekends, but there’s still room for more shoots to be booked in before Christmas.... Interstate shoots and weddings are also fast being booked in for next year, and you can contact me today for info on how to get on my itinerary. More info on this to come soon. Until next time, have a great weekend!! https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

18.01.2022 Who else is all smiles when the last run finishes? As the saying goes, walk out of a shed the same way you walk in to it!

18.01.2022 You might remember earlier this year I did a post outlining a plan to travel around Australia and book in photo shoots wherever I went. The response was insane and I had bulk inquiries with shoots booked in all over the country. Then the border closures happened.... Plan B was to shear in each state I travelled to before doing the photoshoots, as Shearing was still considered essential. After many phone calls with interstate Police and Covid Hotlines, it all seemed a goer until the 2nd Victorian lockdown happened, and shearing was no longer considered essential in a number of states and travel became impossible. So... Victoria - Once lockdown ends, the warmer weather will be here and Spring will be the perfect season to book in your photo shoot with me! Message me now and in a few weeks when lockdown is over, we will be set to capture some memories of you and your family or partner! As for the rest of Australia, the minute the border closures are over I’ll be hitting the frog and toad and I’ll be out of here! Every wedding and photoshoot I had booked interstate for 2020 has been postponed and I plan on making it to every one of them when it’s possible again. Be part of Braszell’s Big Tour #2, with more details on pricing on my website on the link below, and if you refer a friend you get a discount. I look forward to seeing you all soon, wether it’s this year or next! https://jamesbraszellphotography.com/pricing/?v=3a1ed7090bfa

17.01.2022 Your face when mum brings in the groceries and there's a pack of Zooper Doopers poking out the top of the bag.

17.01.2022 After weeks of uncertainty, I'm officially on the road on Monday to start my Photography road trip - and I can't get out of the land of face masks and lockdowns quick enough! The ute is serviced, accomodation is booked and I've got one last photoshoot to do on Friday, but I've officially started packing the ute today - and of course the old Geetar' is coming along for the ride with me. My first week is west into South Australia for a variety of shoots, including families, s...ome modelling shots for a Shearing Brand and some Woolshed Photos. The details are looking like this: Monday March 1: Lucindale Tuesday March 2: Pinnaroo Wednesday March 3: Maitland Thursday March 4: Port Augusta/Quorn Friday March 5: Coober Pedy Saturday/Sunday/Monday March 6/7/8 Uluru & Alice Springs. From there it's North again and then East into Queensland. I've got some time up my sleeve to add some more photoshoots to my route if you find yourself anywhere between Barkly Homestead and The Gold Coast between March 9 and The first week of April and want to book me in. And of course if you just want to sample a beer with me I'll be looking for drinking partners at each stop I'll be making on the way. See you all on the road!

16.01.2022 That moment when you start to have doubts about your future Bridesmaids capabilities. Another one here tonight from Hannah and Justins pre-wedding party from Saturday. Looking forward now to shooting my first wedding of the year in a couple of weeks time (after nearly 12 months of postponements). For any inquiries on photography for your own wedding, shoot me a message or check out my website for more today!

16.01.2022 I literally do not understand what appeals to people who live in high rise apartments or even estates in the city. If those people knew they could wake up to views like this every day, I swear there would be literally nobody left in cities. Then of course we would have to put up with those Greeny, City types so please everyone keep it a secret for a little longer please!

15.01.2022 Who is that one Guy or Girl you work with who spends more time looking at their phone than they do actually working!?

15.01.2022 Evening Viewers, just a quick touch of the bases tonight. This here's me and my mate Boxhead, named for obvious reasons. He asked for a number 1 all over and I was only happy to oblige. This is how my days are panning out until I can get back out and do photoshoots again - counting down the days until lockdowns end! Notice also the lack of chest hair growth and lockdown facial hair on yours truly.... I'm looking forward to hitting puberty one day so it can really kick in. Cheers team, and don't forget to book a shoot now to secure a slot for lockdowns end. Message me today!

15.01.2022 My photography work has changed a lot over the last 12 months, with my focus shifting back to Weddings and Couples & Family shoots to try and make this little business of mine my full time job one day. No matter how much it changes and grows though, I will always be a soft spot for Sheep and Woolsheds. When I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by scenes in country like this, why would I ever want to stop?

15.01.2022 Ladies and Gents, with a bit over a week until my Photography trip gets underway, things are looking good. The border into S.A is opening back up (the first leg on my journey), I’ve got photoshoots and weddings booked in every state on the way, and tomorrow is my last day shearing for at least two months. To celebrate this tonight, it was another visit to the local Lexton pub for a few pots and Australia’s best Parma - or is it? I’ll be doing thousands of Kilometres over 5 ...states and territories and if there is a better Parma that exists then this, I want to know about it. Hit me up Australia, let me know which pub to visit for a good feed (any info on good steaks too!) That can match quality with a spread of food bigger than my forehead. Cheers and thanks in advance, see you on the road soon!

15.01.2022 One has a mullet, and the other just needs a good trim, but Raymond and Hendo are like two peas in a pod. They're also two of Havelock Fine Cuts young Shearers doing the rounds in the Woolsheds of Central Victoria. Who do you all know in the Shearing job with a better mop of hair than these blokes?

14.01.2022 If this is the next generation of Shearers, then I think we're going to need an even better generation of hairdressers...

14.01.2022 Now is the time to book in for photoshoots! The sun is out, The crops are looking awesome and my weekends leading to Christmas and New Years are fast filling up! Contact me today for info on how to book in for a shoot of your own. More details on my website link below:... https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

13.01.2022 Let's be honest, if you aren't dancing to Elvis in the middle of a busy shearing board, do you even enjoy your job? It's great to be back in the Riverina again, and it always seems to feel like home for some reason driving across the Hay Plains. It's going too feel even more like home tomorrow when I pull in my driveway and my trip officially comes to an end. I still have so many photos to share with you all yet, so the adventure isn't over yet!

12.01.2022 People often ask me when they book a shoot with me, "Do we have to do the photoshoot so late?". My answer is first time, every time - absolutely. Why? To get light like this! ... To get that golden hour before the sun sets every day, you 100% have to start by at least 7.30pm at this time of year. I've got one more family shoot to do tomorrow before my summer holidays come to an end, and it's back to the Woolsheds. And yes, I promise I will start posting photos of Sheep and Dogs and Shearers again as soon as possible!

11.01.2022 Framed photos are a great way to finalise your photoshoot! Yvette and Josh has these custom frames made up with photos from their couples shoot a few weeks back. All frames are designed specifically how you would like it made, and can include as many photos in the frame as you like, with the option of an engraved plaque too. ... Check out my newly updated website below and inquire today for more information on framing, and secure your photoshoot slot for lockdowns end! https://jamesbraszellphotography.com/?v=3a1ed7090bfa

10.01.2022 "Yeah mate, we're in for a bumper harvest - and when you've been around as long as I have, you know a good year when you see one"

10.01.2022 The "I Do" Review - Episode 1 - Heather & Michael Smith I've decided to start a new video series so I can share with you a bit more in depth the weddings I photograph, and give a shoutout to the other businesses involved in making these weddings go ahead. We're kicking off tonight with Mr & Mrs Smith who were my first wedding of 2021, and tied the knot at Euramabeen Homestead at the end of February. ... I'm also introducing each week a "Best on Ground" segment for the person who I judge to be the guest in the best form at each wedding I shoot. Who won Episode 1? Tune in to find out. Find out more info on my photography packages and pricing on the link below: https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

09.01.2022 Yesterday. Was. Awweeeeesssome!!! My trip is nearly over, and this was the absolute perfect way to cap off my last weekend on the road. Tahlia and Matt got married yesterday on the farm out at Bethungra in NSW, and I’m fairly certain these are my favourite wedding photos I’ve done yet!... Featuring a HQ Holden Ute, a motorbike and two Landcruisers, a Woolshed (plus Merino sheep in the yards), a bridal party full of absolute legends, boots on the bride and an epic country sunset - Don Bradman could marry Cathy Freeman on the top of Ayers Rock and it still wouldn’t be as Australian as these guys big day was yesterday! I have so many great snaps to share with you all over the coming days, so here’s a sneak preview of what’s to come!

09.01.2022 When you go to 40 Winks and buy the King Size bed, but realise you're a single Doggo and have nobody to share it with.

08.01.2022 Bridal Parties of Australia, take note!! When your friends wedding plans turn to crap because of Covid, you don’t just wait around for the postponed date to roll around... Hannah was supposed to become Mrs Hobson yesterday, and marry her fiancé Justin, but obviously the wedding couldn’t go ahead the way they had planned, and another date was set. So instead, their friends planned a surprise party for them at the location of the ceremony instead, complete with drinks, family ...and the entire Bridal Party! It was an awesome day, and they had plenty of practice for when the real thing finally happens! Now that’s a good set of mates right there!

08.01.2022 A boy can learn a lot from a dog: obedience, loyalty, and the importance of turning around three times before sitting down. Robert Benchley

08.01.2022 How many times have you Shearers out there found yourself in this pose? Most likely not just counting the sheep in the catching pen, but probably contemplating life, wondering how it all come to this!?

07.01.2022 This week I was supposed to be Queensland bound for wedding photos, but it looks like heading into the Sunshine State is still quite a few months away yet. Then I planned to get into S.A to work in a Woolshed there for a few weeks instead - until we were no longer considered essential workers anymore. Still keen to get away for a week or two out of Victoria, and with border rules changing AGAIN, I organised some Shearing in NSW. Seemed simple enough. ... Now, instead of leaving early this week like I had planned, I’ll be likely now spending my coming weekend heading into NSW due to not being approved yet. Packed, ready to go with the ute full of gear and I can’t leave because some pencil pusher hasn’t processed my application. Frustrating. Oh well, the joys of it I suppose. If I ever get out of this state and you see the Lux with my fancy new windscreen sticker rolling your way, be sure to give me a wave.

07.01.2022 I don't care how much you love your job, there is zero chance you are looking forward to going to work as much tomorrow as Dusty is.

07.01.2022 It's a scientific fact that if you do the Y.M.C.A dance while penning up sheep, they will run better.

07.01.2022 It's been about a week and a half since my last post, but after a short break Ladies & Gents, I'm back! I finally managed to get into NSW last week shearing in the Riverina, and despite it being a shorter trip than I had initially planned, I still managed a few photos from my time I spent there with a cracking team of Guys and Gals. For an added bonus, it was good to have a lack of phone service for a while and forget about news feeds full of Coronavirus, and remembering to g...own up like I'm about to perform surgery every time I enter the public. Stay tuned this week for more photos to come!

06.01.2022 Well team, It's been a crazy year, but the fat Lady has almost sung and it's nearly over. I'll be having a short spell from Shearing over the Christmas & New Years break, but the camera is certainly not going to be gathering any dust over this time. In the past couple of weeks I've suddenly had a heap of bookings for Couples & Family shoots for January that I can't wait to do before I get back into the weddings again in Febuary, and a number of photos to print and get frame...d. I'll be doing a post about 2021 weddings in coming weeks, but in the meantime, if you'd like to add to my growing list of Photo jobs over this Summer break, fire a message this way today and lets fill those blank spaces on your living room wall! Vouchers can also purchased on my website on the link below (a perfect last minute Christmas gift!) https://jamesbraszellphotography.com/photography-gift-vouc/

06.01.2022 When the best light pours into the shearing shed, I'm either just about to finish shearing for the day, or just starting, and I rarely get the chance to catch moments when the sun is shining into the shed like this. At 4.30pm to 5.30pm every day, smack bang in a shearing shed with a camera in hand is right where I want to be!

06.01.2022 Tomorrow I get to shoot my first couple for 2021 and I can’t wait to get back into it! If you want the perfect anniversary or birthday present for the Mrs (or if you forgot to buy her a Christmas present) look no further! And Girls, twist the fellas arm and tell him to iron his best shirt and let’s get in touch today to fill those empty spaces on the living room wall.... Vouchers can also be purchased from my website on the link below https://jamesbraszellphotography.com/photography-gift-vouc/

06.01.2022 Akubras, Gumtrees and an amazing sunset - what Aussie country girl doesn't dream of this for her wedding day? These two absolute Legends, Heather and Michael got married yesterday near Beaufort, and I had the absolute pleasure of being their photographer for the day. I have so much to say about the big day, and I have a huge week of editing ahead of me, but for now I just want to share a photo, so stay tuned for more to come throughout the week.... Braszell out.

05.01.2022 "You look at kids today living in the city and, you know, they've never bloody, you know, let off a firearm, skinned a rabbit or gone spotlighting for a roo. These skills are dying and that makes me sad. Learn how to shear a sheep or milk a cow, slit the throat of a ... whatever .... shoot something. Then you're living" - Russel Coight

05.01.2022 Pretty sure Ray Charles must be the guy checking my border pass to go Shearing in NSW, because it seems to be taking an awfully long time. Pretty doubtful it will go ahead unfortunately. Anyway, the show must go on while I’m still at home, and I’ve just picked up another Panorama for a customer this week. ... These are no doubt my most popular frames to sell, and to grab one of these or another of my photos for yourself, shoot me a message today. https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

05.01.2022 After nearly a 4 week break from posting shearing related photos, I was finally back in the Woolshed today, and of course the camera came with me. So what better photo to post than a couple of mates penning up on our 37 degree day return to work?

05.01.2022 The day we shot Bryce & Kristy's engagement shoot was probably the coldest day in history. In fact, I had to wait for penguins to cross the road to get to the shoot (no exaggeration). However, now with the weather warming up it's the perfect time to book in for a Couples shoot or a Family shoot of your own! ( Also F.Y.I, The old blue tractor may not make it to the location you choose, so you best bring your own)

04.01.2022 "Oi Braszell, grab that camera of yours and get a photo of Hilty and Stoyle and Me sitting on our buckets". So, here it is - The 3 great men doing what they do best. Also, if they ever start band they could use it as an album cover too I suppose.

04.01.2022 I’ve got so many photos from Michael and Heather’s wedding on Saturday I want to share with you all (including some hilarious ones I’ve already had a few requests for), but for tonight I’ll play it safe for now and just share some of the newlyweds. If you ever need proof country couples have more fun - this is it! Actual dialogue on the bottom left photo too: ... Me: Whisper something dirty in her ear Michael: KFC...actually how good would a Zinger box be right about now?.

04.01.2022 Hey Victoria, remember pubs? They’re kind of open again! And if you’re passing through Lexton you can now call in for a pot and grab one of my 2021 Shearing Calendars while you’re there. $20 each or 3 for $50. If you’re lucky Brett might even tell you which card the Joker is on for Joker Poker while you’re there.

04.01.2022 I was supposed to be bound for Wagga this weekend for wedding photos. Unfortunately...yup, you guessed it - postponed to Covid! 2020 has been the best.... The good news Victoria is that the weather is finally getting nice again (can you remember the sun? Its back!) and I'll be hanging around in Victoria now for any photoshoots you lovely people might want to book me for! Family Photos? Let's do em'! Couples and Engagement Photos? Count me in! Eloping? Let me in on the party! Can any families out there beat the Kehoe family (pictured) for 6 kids and Mum and Dad in the one shoot? Try me out! Check out my website to view my portfolio and book me in today! https://jamesbraszellphotography.com

03.01.2022 Last night I did my first couples shoot for the year, for Connor and Caitlyn - and in the 12 or so months I've been doing photoshoots again, this one is probably my favourite gallery I've sent to a customer so far! I've had more wedding bookings this week, as well as more Families and Couples who want to take advantage of the short burst of summer we get down here and get some snaps taken while the sun is still out. Book me in today and you too can look into your partners eyes while onlookers ride their bikes past wondering what on earth we're doing!

01.01.2022 He looks a bit like a Lumberjack who could do with a good shear himself, and when he shook your hand it, it stayed shook. However Kappa here was the presser at Gunbar last week, and he was a cracking bloke too. In fact when I pulled the guitar out around the campfire last week, he certainly knew his way around a 6 string aswell, a man of many talents I must say. ... The wool room had some awesome light in the mornings, so we managed a few of the Legend at his work station while it was still shining before shearing begun each day.

01.01.2022 Well it's Flashback Friday today. I never do these, but considering we're not far off the end of another year and for something completely different tonight we're gonna flash waaaay back. See if you can spot a handsome young Photographer in these photos. It was only when I started working in Woolsheds I actually took took an interest in Photography. ... In primary school I wanted to be an Author - or if that didn't work out, play on the wing for Carlton Footy Club. When I got to High School I tried work experience with 3 different businesses, I worked part time at a Piggery in my school holidays and worked at Safeway for 2.5 years. If a career as a drummer in AC/DC didn't work out, I finally decided that in year 11 I would to head north and try working on a station after school. Then I tried my hand at crutching in an agriculture course I did one day a week through school (which I really only did because I had mates in it, and I got a day off from school) and the rest is history! The funny part is, more than 20 years later from my Prep photo in 2000 here, I'm still good mates with a lot of these guys and girls, and still live near most of them and still see them. I still work with my old mate Billy Woodgate who now runs Marwood Shearing, and is in the picture with me and the girls at school (absolute Heart Throbs we were). Fortunately we've both slightly grown up a bit since this photo was taken. In the same photo on the far right is Cass who went to primary school with me also, and worked with me in Woolsheds almost right up until she got married a couple of years back, and we're still good mates. Then of course there's the photo on may last day of year 12 (which as it turns out, getting that VCE certificate wasn't necessary to shear sheep). All of those blokes pictured are still absolute weapons and it's a shame I don't get to see them as much as I'd like too. Of course that leads us to now. Not much has changed. The hairlines going backwards, and I'm now aiming towards phasing out the shearing to do photography full time. Looking forward now to doing another one of these in another 20 years to see how things have panned out. Stay Tuned.
