25.01.2022 Rafael Moneo contextualises...

22.01.2022 I was recently hired to research this house at Morningside, and as soon as I saw it , I got a little excited... I recognised the design straight away as a Worke...rs' Dwellings Board (WDB) style, known as an "Asymmetrical Porch and Gable Bungalow". Sure enough, when I checked the old Certificate of Land Titles for the property, there was a mortgage stamp from the Workers' Dwellings Board! This a) gave me an approximate date of when the house was built and b) led me to the Queensland State Archives, where I viewed a hefty tome containing the original loan application details from 1914. The Workers Dwelling Board was a government agency established in 1909, which loaned money to people on lower incomes to build new houses. The goal of the Board was to make home ownership achievable to the Working Class, however in reality homes were built for tradesmen as well as professional classes, they just had to earn under 200 per year. The applicant also had to own their own block of land and not already own a house. They then chose a design from a selection offered by the WDB and if required (and money allowed) made slight alterations and chose from a selection of finishes to personalise the design. There are many examples of WDB houses all around Brisbane.

22.01.2022 Both. All hands on deck.

13.01.2022 Ian and Dash are giving the job a real push but it would be handy to have the plumbing approval so we could fill in the trenches. The floor is being framed and the walls are being sheeted #jamesdavidsonarchitect #herroncooreybuildingcontractors #herroncoorey @ Red Hill Cinemas

12.01.2022 Australia really does need to get on board in a much more deliberate and meaningful way.

03.01.2022 This NOLA.com editorial is frank on storm risk: "'Climate change is turning that 100-year flood, that 1 percent flood, into a 5 percent flood or a 20-year flood...,' said Rick Luettich ... of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority East." And closes with a plea is to invest in coastal restoration and water infrastructure as a matter of preserving the city's cultural heritage: "Those of us who've inherited this amazing city must do whatever we can to hold back the water."

02.01.2022 Proud to be the author of the Flood Resilient Building Guidance for Queensland Homes which along with the Strategic Floodplain Management Plan was released today by Minister Cameron Dick. The setting was in front of our recently completed Chelmer house which incorporates many of the flood resilience principles found in the guideline.
