25.01.2022 SKILLS Not everything needs to be a workout! Not everything needs to be for time! ... Choose some foundational movements that stump you during workouts and work on them NOT FOR TIME but for movement efficiency and strength. @ultra.athlete no matter the program we choose movements like this and practice them with out being on the clock to help build familiarity with simple and more complex movements. Instead of expecting you to pick these skills up whilst your focus is on beating your best mate next to you. Sometimes I HATE warming up and I just want to get stuck into it but I’ve learnt over the years not only will I perform better but I’ll decrease the risk of getting hurt!... Developing solid movement patterns and building muscular endurance + aerobic capacity is crucial to performing well. ... Sometimes it’s better to slow things down a little and you can most definitely build upon these areas without sending it every single workout. See that a couple of your workouts each week are based on smooth movement quality and hit them around 60-70% speed. Which workouts? 06.01.2022 PLAY Play can be sometimes more beneficial than training Every time I’m feeling off or I feel I need a break from the gym, I usually go for a surf. ... 1. It clears my mind 2. It helps me recover 3. Its one hell of a workout There’s been so many times I’ve said owe I’ll just go for a nice crusiey surf to take my mind off training and the next thing I know I’m paddling harder than I did at the CrossFit Games during the paddle board event to make sure I don’t catch a bomb on the head haha I can tell you right now there no faster way to take your mind off what ever is going on in your life than to be put infront of a wall of water. I always recommend to my Ultra Athlete clients when the days roll around where you aren’t quite feeling yourself and your emotions are getting the better of you, just take a chill pill, go for a surf, take a rest day or do a workout that’s just going to make you feel good. Recovery is crucial to progress Make sure you understand the signs your brain and body are giving you. You will bounce back better for it!! @ultra.athlete @wykieetsebeth @alphafit_aus
