25.01.2022 All I said was "ask nicely and you will be fine." They came back looking like this.

25.01.2022 STEP 5 I have many different Methods of working but the most commonly used one is the Pause. The pause is like re booting a computer . The performer has a moment to themselves without performing. I am always watching them during this time looking for more signs of who they really are. Picture of Eddie Perfect during a pause.

24.01.2022 This was photographed in 1991. The fabulous Rachel Burger and Lynda Gibson.

23.01.2022 On the 5th of July 1991 outside the Star and Garter Hotel, a fly landed on the bridge of Bob Franklins nose.

23.01.2022 Performers are so busy writing shows that they dont have time to focus on a conceptual shot that will get bums on seats. For many years it was left up to me to ask questions about the show and come up with something interesting on the spot. This habit is now changing with new comics who understand marketing. New comics are media savvy. A good photographer can help with a conceptual Idea , not just lighting or directing. If you are ever stuck for an idea Im happy to chat with you.. .Photo of David Cotter

23.01.2022 Simon Munnery came in with nutty hair so I highlighted it a little. He was very quiet on the day.

22.01.2022 A large percentage of magazine cover shots are heavily photoshopped . Im in the character business . Most people I photograph are ok with the bumps and lines on their faces . I feel that for every line I lose on a face I will lose a story. Photo of Rod Quantock

22.01.2022 A new publicist rang me the other day and asked if Ive worked with performers before. So I set up this photo.

20.01.2022 If you are fortunate enough to have a beautiful or interesting profile its always worth taking a quick shot. Publicists / magazines rarely use them because they dont reveal enough about a performer. I tend to disagree.

19.01.2022 When I first met my partner she walked into the studio while Tom Williams was pouring orange juice down his chest. I never had a chance. Boost Juice Campaign.

19.01.2022 Lawrence Mooney booked a camel for his festival show, but camel guy didnt show up because of the rain. It left us all confused so we took some snaps down the lane way instead.

15.01.2022 STEP 1. For all you new Photographers , This is how I do it, but you will find your own way. Before anyone comes in for a shoot, I clean my studio. A performer needs to feel like they can make their own mess in my space and have room to do it. This also helps them feel that my place is also their place.Pic is of Archie Roach

14.01.2022 Yes, it was me that shot all the "DON IS GOOD" stuff. Sorry.

13.01.2022 A tip or two. A receptionist of a company is an important person. She may be the wife of the boss of the company. She is likely to keep her job for many years. Ill keep it simple, just be nice to everyone. If you are starving while at work, visit the kitchen staff and introduce yourself. Have some fun with them and they wont avoid you when the finger food comes out.

13.01.2022 Ben Lomas came in for his comedy festival poster. His show is called BEN LOMAS IS THE CAFFEINATOR.

12.01.2022 STEP 4 Getting The Shot. This is the core of what I do. Its not an art and its not luck. Its a skill Ive developed and honed over 25 years in the game. Not many people really know how their face photographs. By coaching, directing and challenging people, I can help people learn about their face and their expressions. Even really experienced performers will have bad habits, like the TV Smile that might look stiff and insincere . My skill in bringing out the micro-expressions comes from years of studying faces. That experience makes it possible for me to get the shot fast. Picture of BOB FRANKLIN

10.01.2022 I shot these guys 20 years ago. Matt King, Marty Sheargold and Greg Fleet.

09.01.2022 I was on set yesterday with Sam Simmons and Mr Meowgi (Ronny Chieng) for the new TV show "PROBLEMS".

09.01.2022 Step 3: Take the time to get to know the person. A series of casual questions over coffee before we get into the shoot gives me an insight into where this person is in their life and where my photographs can take them. While we chat I am also exploring how the persons face moves and shows their personality. I use all of my experiences of people and life to read the structure and movement of their face. For me, great portraiture is a partnership between the subject and the photographer and for that you need to trust each other. picture

08.01.2022 STEP 2..Eliminate all pre conceived ideas that you have of a person before they come in. I prefer to not know anything about a portrait, this allows me to explore, to be spontaneous, and most important it allows me to be fully in the moment. When they arrive I kill them with kindness and respect, and then I see what happens. I create an environment of trust . If they are having a bad day I am sensitive to this and work quickly.

06.01.2022 I shot this in a Fitzroy pub in 1991 for the womens season. If youre in this shot Ill send you the file.

05.01.2022 I shot this a long time ago, Full Frontal. Can you name them all?

05.01.2022 I shot them when they were young. I shot them when they got old. Merrick & Rosso

05.01.2022 I took this shot of Geraldine M. Quinn for the comedy festival next year. The design was from Barney Sullivan. Make up by Jo Fletcher. The show is called Geraldine Quinn Stranger.

05.01.2022 In 1988, I worked for a year photographing kids in their suburban homes. They pulled my hair, they threw up on me, they broke my equipment. It was good training for working with performers.

04.01.2022 Harley Breen was going to India so he came to me for a passport photo.

04.01.2022 I was 7 years old. We were chasing the ice cream bus. The driver just kept going, I knew he could see us running after him, but he just kept going. When we gave up chasing, my mate Jimmy sat down on the footpath and cried, but I laughed. To me the tragedy was funny. From that day I understood that I saw the humour in things, not the sadness. 14 years later I got to work with the sexy models, but their faces didnt move and they didnt laugh much. I said to myself "This is ...not fun". Then came the Rock Stars with the attitude and the egos. It didnt feel right for me. I new I loved to laugh, so I tried comedians . It seemed like no one understood them, their sensitivities and their desires. I made it my job to understand them and they needed my help. I wanted them to get the respect they deserved. For me, they have the most important job in the world. They make me laugh and I make them laugh. I stood beside them and we lived happily ever after. See more

04.01.2022 Lawrence Mooney asked me to go to Canada to shoot this. I had kids to manage so we shot it in my studio instead. Poster Design Karl Chandler.

03.01.2022 For anyone who missed it the first time due to technical issues, here it is again. The first video Ive ever made. Thanks to Andrew Doherty for editing for the small price of 5 beers.

03.01.2022 I took this shot In 98. I realised that my job was more than just photographing faces. It was about what was going on behind the skin. Luna Park has seen it all. Nothing can surprise it , but it is grateful for the company.

03.01.2022 To all comics suffering from Post Traumatic Festival Syndrome. You have done our city proud . Thank you and rest up, we need you strong and well and thanks for trusting me with your poster pics.

02.01.2022 I shot this today for Dave ONeils Comedy Festival show. Its called 33 THINGS I SHOULD HAVE SAID NO TO

01.01.2022 These blokes are noisy . Getting them in one room is like taming lions. One of the most rewarding things is seeing your work massive. Pic of Triple M Football team. Design By Short Fuse

01.01.2022 Now these guys know how to put a poster together. We shot them separately jumping two feet off the ground. Shooting them together was an option, but in this case not an efficient way to work.
