25.01.2022 Beyond Last Light -- Mitchell Ridge Lookout -- MOUNT VICTORIA, NSW, Australia This photo is the second photo in the set from last night. It was taken 45 minutes later - started at 5.45pm, and was a 10 minute exposure. You can see the glittering, but sparse, township of Hartley just below the sunset. The big sweep of light at the bottom of the shot are cars travelling down Victoria Pass at Mount Victoria. Again, I used my new Triggertrap to control the shutter on my camera - w...hat a brilliant and simple little device - as the slowest shutter my 100d will stay open is 30 seconds, so i needed to use Bulb - and I wasnt really wanting to hold my finger on the camera keeping the shutter open for 10 minutes, so the Triggertrap helped here. 25.01.2022 No Place Like Home Location: Bushrangers Cave, MT VICTORIA, NSW, Australia EOS100D ~ 10mm ~ 1/6sec ~ f5 ~ ISO 100... Map: https://goo.gl/FKz8PD Mt Victoria has some hidden gems, such as Bushrangers Cave. Make your way to Pulpit Rock, in Mt Victoria, and follow the path down the hill - about 20 minutes - just follow the signs. Youll eventually get to a sign pointing the direction to Bushrangers Cave. At this point you need to do a little rock scrambling, but then you arrive at the entrance to the cave. After a bit more rock scrambling - take it slow and youll be OK - you arrive at a very secluded rock cave that burrows into the hill about 20-30 metres. Its well worth the effort. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/LPYMN7azz7K2 So the family went to a Sydney night lights specatular called Vivid. And yes the lights were great, but the crowd control and on-ground management was abysmal. Very unsafe, very scary, very non-family friendly. If someone had shouted "fire" there would have been serious injuries and deaths from the stampede. Such a pity. But hey, the lights were great as I said - but next time I think I need to take a fully charged cattle-prod. I came across this old termination box - im guessing all the rail-line signals (lights, etc) must have been connected to this box at one time - but not anymore. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/reRwqzUeHq62 From the Gordon Falls Reserve picnic area in Leura you follow what seems an easy going downhill track, that gradually drops deeper into the valley. Before you know it, youre at the base of a petite little waterfall that spills into the "Pool of Siloam". This clear pool is surrounded by a small sandy beach, and the whole area is cool, quiet, and peaceful. And then the crying starts...when you realise you have to climb all those steps back up to the car ! We were driving around the northern parts of outer Ballarat today, and on the way back to the hotel this afternoon, (some 55 km north of Ballarat) and driving through very flat grazing country, came across this windmill. In fact there was another directly across the road - sort of like duelling windmills. Anyway, the late afternoon sun was giving off some amazing colours across the paddock - the photo looks a little surreal with the sun behind the windmill. It was nice to sit within the cool spray of the Upper Cascades waterfall, whilst the offspring played in the rockpool getting their feet, legs, arms, clothes, everything wet. Map: https://goo.gl/8Ezvl1 Did you know that a sand and gravel quarry operated near Cants Corner in Medlow Bath? Late in 1918 the Blue Mountains Shire Council advertised for tenders for quarrying and selling gravel from the quarry. May 1920, the Mountain Gravel Company was operating with the Blue Mountains City Council a major purchaser. Operations were supposed to cease in c. 1947 to protect the Lake Medlow catchment but it was still producing gravel in 1948 when there were complaints that the operations were discolouring Lake Medlow. It was still in use in the early fifties, with production erratic from 1957. By 1965 it was not being worked and in 1969 the quarry was reported to have closed. On 5 March 1992 the land was formally resumed by the Sydney Water Board. (Information: Peter C. This photo was in the Mind and Body Gallery - The Mind: Enter The Labyrinth, which among some scarey bits were some really interesting and fun exhibits, like this where the girls are lying on the Consciousness Couches - which apparently evoke different stages of consciousness, such as sleeping and dreaming. But by the time I made the trek to Govetts Leap lookout some clouds were rolling in, and within half an hour the fog had covered area. So I was lucky to get this shot. The bright burnout at the bottom of the photo is the light pollution from Sydney. Next time ill try capturing the Mily Way from the west - but that wont be till October !
