25.01.2022 Howdy folks, interesting times hey? We haven't posted for a while, but we're really pleased with the progress of the house. Our builders, Burke Homes, have been doing an amazing job despite these difficult times. They've told us that the plaster is complete, the staircase has been installed, doors are being hung and the kitchen will be installed this week sometime. There's still a fair way to go, but it's getting there and starting to feel real.... As we're Melbourne-based, we've been unable to go and have a look, unfortunately, but can't wait until (if?) these restrictions are lifted and we can take a peek. Hope everyone's keeping safe, take care.

23.01.2022 When it’s not peak summer season you will often have the beautiful Walkerville South beach to your self, except maybe for a local or two!

23.01.2022 Jandi's builder has been hard at work getting the house to 'lock-up' stage. The roof is on, windows are in place and the cladding on the lower level will be finished this week, with the upper level being worked on next week. Exciting stuff!

23.01.2022 Some exciting things are happening to Jandi soon!

22.01.2022 The front and back of the JANDI house, it is being painted as we speak :-)

22.01.2022 Our builder sent us some progress pics today. Insulation is all done, scaffolding has been removed, painting complete, just waiting for plaster now.

21.01.2022 OMG, we have a slab!

18.01.2022 Took possession of our new house today. We’re all happy and excited, except for Isla, who was having a bit of a rough day.

17.01.2022 Construction of Jandi is moving along really quickly. Our builder, Burke Homes, has completed the lower floor framing of our house and it's ready to be transported to the site to attach to the slab. We can't wait to see what happens next.

17.01.2022 Finished the kids reading nook today. Sebastian Lives In A Hat and Magic Beach were two of my favourite books as a child. @alisonlesterbooks #readingnook #readingtime #readingisfun #walkerville #travelvictoria #holidayherethisyear #holidayhome #holidayrental #kidfriendly #wombat #nativeaustraliananimals

17.01.2022 Perfect evening in Walkerville for a swim!

17.01.2022 The past few months we've been busy meeting with house builders and talking to them about our requirements to build an awesome holiday rental that we can share with people. We're pleased to say we've found an awesome independent builder local to the South Gippsland region. One thing we really wanted to do was to utilise as many local businesses and services as possible. We weren't really interested in contracting a massive volume-based builder, as we feel like you're treated... like a number and not valued. We had no idea how involved building a house from scratch was. There's so many things involved, and particularly in Walkerville, Victoria, being rural, there's many things to consider that don't apply when building in suburbia. Some things that we take for granted in suburbia that aren't available in some rural areas: * Gas * Water mains * Sewerage * High-speed broadband * Mobile coverage We have to install a 30,000 litre water tank for fresh water. The last 10,000 litres can't be used as it's a requirement to have this water available at all times by the CFA in the event of a bush fire. A secondary treatment plant also needs to be installed to handle the waste water and sewerage requirements of the property. Because there's no gas, we have to install an electric heat pump to provide hot water for our guests. And because the closest telephone exchange is almost 6km away, it really limits the ability to have high-speed broadband. Our only options for broadband is either 4G or satellite NBN. The picture included in this post shows what our builder has come up with for what the house will look like from a couple of perspectives. We're really happy with the design and are progressing forward with site surveying, engineering and council planning. We're hoping to have this place built by July 2020 and can't wait to have a wonderful holiday house that we can share with guests.

16.01.2022 We've now had our building plans approved by the South Gippsland Council, so we're a step closer to building our house. This process took approximately 2.5 months, and thankfully didn't need to go to advertising as the Council determined that our house build doesn't adversely impact our neighbours. We've attached some plans of our house to give you an idea of how it's going to look. The design has changed slightly from our preliminary draft that our draftsman designed.... We're still at least six months away from being able to start construction, and our next meeting with our builder is in around two weeks time, where we'll discuss the internal fittings (door knobs, lights, paint colour, et cetera). Slowly but surely... more to come.

08.01.2022 Jandi family holiday rental is located in beautiful Walkerville Victoria, the perfect base to explore South Gippsland! #explore #holiday #rental #airbnb #gippsland #visitgippsland #southgippsland #bighouse #newhouse #comestaywithus #comestayawhile #walkerville

08.01.2022 Had to make a trip on the weekend down to the house to check on some cabling. The weather was perfect for a stroll down Walkerville North beach, even this cormorant was soaking up the sun!

07.01.2022 Since we last posted, we've had lots of preliminary build tasks completed for our Jandi house. Engineering calculations (22 pages of mathematical formulae), excavation, soil testing, working drawings, electrical layouts, the list goes on. It's really sad that we've had to remove those beautiful trees, however, we wouldn't have been able to build a house around them (the block was literally covered in them) and the bushfire code in the area is very strict (no trees to overhang... a house). We've just got a septic permit to finalise, finance to organise, contracts to sign and the build process should start. Here's some progress pictures. Hopefully, we'll have another update during January and February of 2020.

05.01.2022 A really exciting day today. We were invited to our (almost) finished house to do a pre-settlement inspection. We’re just waiting on fly screens to go on the external windows before our occupancy permit will be granted, then we’ll be really proud to call this ours. We can’t thank Burke Homes enough for building our absolutely beautiful new house. Shannon and Michael were amazing to deal with. We look forward to being able to share our home with you in early 2021.

04.01.2022 Sarah and Kent are pleased to announce that the building permit for Jandi has been approved, and the slab is being poured next week. Exciting times!
