25.01.2022 John & Jason speaking with British frame designer William Morris during ODMA optical trade fair in Brisbane last weekend.

25.01.2022 2019 OPTICAL REBATES EXPIRE on Dec 31 for most Health Fund Members! Now is a great time to try a new look, get a spare pair, or update your prescription sunglasses for summer. If you are due for an eye test or would like to check your prescription call us on 4933 00 55 to make an appointment with Jason or Georgia.

25.01.2022 J & J Optical has a new website! To view frame styles, check out our latest offers, or learn about eyes go to www.jjoptical.com.au. If there is anything you would like to see on our site, or you have a question about eyes or anything optometry feel free to message us here, or email [email protected].

24.01.2022 Thanks to Andrea Windley Photography for taking professional practice photos for us recently including the three in this post. We will be using them to refresh our practice website in the near future. Pictured is a fantastic new piece of equipment in our store called an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomographer). This amazing technology enables us to scan the deepest layers of the eyes retina to accurately monitor and diagnose eye diseases such as macula degeneration and glaucoma.

24.01.2022 Dont forget to use your annual health fund optical rebate before it expires on Dec 31st! Check out our no-gap range and treat yourself to a spare pair or a different style.

23.01.2022 Our website has a new look! Visit us at www.jjoptical.com.au for information about the practice, eye health, and to browse our frames online. Thanks to Jasons wife Georgia at Trek Web Design for the makeover (www.trekwebdesign.com.au)

22.01.2022 Would you sometimes prefer not to wear glasses? If you need glasses to read (or for both reading and distance) then multifocal contact lenses might be an option for you. Until April 30th J& J Optical is offering free trials of multifocal contact lenses. Just give us a call on 49330055 to arrange a time to see Jason. ... Why try them? Contact lens designs are improving all the time. More and more people are now able to wear them and achieve clear and comfortable vision without glasses. Contact lenses give you the freedom of not having to wear glasses all the time some people choose to just wear them in social situations, or for sport, others find they prefer contacts to glasses. What does the free trial involve? Jason will put the contact lenses in your eyes so you can walk around and try them out. You can either wear them in store or wear them out and about for a few hours before returning so he can remove them. If you have not had a recent eye examination it is likely that Jason will first need to do some tests to check that your eyes are healthy (to ensure it is safe for you to have contact lenses in your eyes), and to determine the approximate lens power to use in your trial. Such an examination can usually be billed to Medicare. If you love the lenses further testing is required to determine the best lens fit and strength for you, and to teach you how to put the lenses in and care for them. Professional fees apply to these subsequent visits but Jason will talk you through any further costs when you see us for the free trial.

19.01.2022 Did you know that, like your skin, the inside and outside of your eyes can develop sun spots like freckles and melanoma? Pictured below is an example of a choroidal naevus, or freckle, in the back of the eye. The naevus is the darkish speckled patch seen in the bottom left corner of the photo. Luckily this spot was benign. After detection on routine examination Jason photographs such spots so they can be closely monitored for any suspicious changes. Protect your eyes by wearing a quality pair of sunglasses to prevent UV damage and book an eye health check with your optometrist every few years.

18.01.2022 Jason and his wife Georgia welcomed their third son, Denzel, on October 18. He is settling in well and getting plenty of cuddles from his proud big brothers.

11.01.2022 School is now well and truly back! Have your kids ever had their eyes tested? Uncorrected vision problems are common in children and can prevent kids reaching their potential at school. We recommend that kids have their eye tested prior to starting school and then every 3 years (more frequently if there is a history of vision problems, and earlier than school age if there are any concerns). Jason is a behavioural optometrist which means he is able to test for problems wi...th the visual system involving visual processing, eye movement control, & spatial awareness (for most kids a routine eye examination is all that is required). If your child does need glasses we have a fantastic range for babies and kids of all ages.

11.01.2022 This week we will be open for urgent appointments and glasses collections Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (closed Wednesday, Friday and Saturday). As of next week (6 April) we will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-4 only. Please read the guidelines on our website before coming to the practice. https://www.jjoptical.com.au/covid-19-coronovirus-practice/
