23.01.2022 These quiet and well-bred Angus steers behave very well in the paddocks and the yards. Available at Friday's VLE sale at Koonwarra - first up so make sure you are early #angus #angussteers
22.01.2022 Out on a beautiful day with a couple of dogs trying to clean up some of the very determined weeds that the season keeps giving. Seriously, though, we have had such a good season, the rain keeps coming and the grass keeps growing.
18.01.2022 Drama-filled day today. First, a calf born on the edge of a precipice which fell straight down into the ditch where Mum couldn't get to it. Calf was cold after sitting in the mud for a couple of hours. We relocated the calf, went back an hour later and found that the cow was looking for the calf and couldn't find it. Carried the calf back to where the cow could see it and they met half way, we left them together to sort out the first feed. Second, this calf had fallen into a wombat hole (yes, another one!). Master of the Wombat Hole found the calf, dug it out and it couldn't stand so we brought it a feed to give it strength to get through the night and recover so it could start feeding off Mum again. We will be back first thing in the morning to make sure both pairs are OK.
12.01.2022 These are the two calves that John saved late last week, the one on the left is the one from the wombat hole, the one on the right is the one that fell down the precipice

03.01.2022 A big day at the farm today, between moving cows onto our new property, taking dogs to the vet, feeding poddies and a myriad of other tasks, E and Sharon did the calving rounds on Lilly and Doc. E heard a calf calling and found a newborn calf stuck in a waterhole where it's mother was unable to reach it. E went for a dip, retrieved the calf, carried it up the hill and then we had to carry it quite a way to find it's mother. It was exhausted by the time we found Mum and wouldn't stand to feed so John came to the rescue with a bottle of colostrum and a bottle of electrolytes. When he went back to check on it tonight, he couldn't find it so we are hoping it has moved off with Mum and the mob for a well-earned rest.
02.01.2022 Anyone seen this before?
