23.01.2022 This survey is an initiative of the Tasmania Project and includes questions that reflect whether Tasmanian residents have been able to buy enough safe and healthy food to meet their needs during COVID-19, how they have shopped for food, and how food access and supply could be different in the future. The findings from this survey and the recent Eat Well Tasmania survey will provide us with a very good picture on the impact of COVID-19 on our food supply in Tasmania.https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/tasfood

18.01.2022 At long last some clarity from the Federal government Department of Health concerning supporting people with disability. See the link below. Should disability support workers wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)? If you are working with people with disability, continue to practise good hygiene wearing gloves where required, washing your hands frequently and so on.... There is no need for disability or health workers to wear surgical masks unless you are working directly with clients or patients who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Further guidance on the use of surgical masks is on the Department of Health website. http://createsend.com/t/t-350D29C13172277C2540EF23F30FEDED See more

11.01.2022 Please be aware: the following story may be traumatising for some people. The tragic and horrific circumstances leading to the death of Ms Ann-Marie Smith in SA, is unacceptable. As a nation who seemingly prides itself on values of fairness, kindness and looking after each other, we should all be outraged. The following story is distressing. https://www.abc.net.au//degrading-death-shows-com/12254722
11.01.2022 For those friends of mine who may need communication boards for their loved ones with disability, I found this on Twitter and it appears to be a really good resource. Let me know if it helps. X
11.01.2022 If you are at all concerned about support in your home and what infection control practices should and must be abided by, then get on the www.health.gov.au website. Surgical Masks: they are in very limited supply and I have contacted the Tas Health Department Hotline and asked them about masks for those receiving help in the home. Our society is still adjusting to the fact that many of us are employing support directly. There is a lot more work to be done about messaging for people with disability. How are you finding it all?

07.01.2022 Choose understanding - not judgement. For all our Melbourne peeps who cannot wear a mask here are a couple of images that might come in handy. Thanks to the fab... crew at IDEAS Disability Information for putting these together. And for anyone else who might be feeling nervous about not being able to wear a mask, here is a snippet from the press conference given today by the Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton. Prof Sutton urged all Victorians not to vilify people not wearing masks. You will see some people who are not wearing masks and a number of them are legitimately not able to wear masks, so please dont vilify individuals or dont make the assumption that they are simply stubborn and refusing to wear masks, he said. There will be people with medical, behavioural, psychological reasons not to wear a mask. Certainly dont make an assumption that they should be the subject of your ire. Just remember you dont have to wear a mask if: you are a child under 12 years old you have a disability or medical condition where you cannot wear a mask you have a mental health condition which means you cannot wear a mask and if you are communicating with a person who is Deaf or hard of hearing where they need to see your mouth to communicate. You can read the full article about the press conference here (not paywalled) - https://www.heraldsun.com.au//b452755511bfb4c7a33ec5cebae4 You can find all the info about exemptions for wearing masks here - https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-1159pm-wednesday And we have lots of info about all things masks on our website (including how to make one) - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/get-your-mask-on/ And once again we finish with a plea for everyone to keep their comments respectful and kind. Every time we have posted about masks this week we have had people from outside our community come to the page with the sole intention of trolling and starting fights. Any comments which are abusive or offensive to people with disability and their family members will not be tolerated and will be removed. And a BIG thank you to all those who have shown such care, love and support to one another on this page - its what makes this community great (Image description: Two sharegraphics. The text on each one reads: Melbourne please remember not everyone can wear a mask safely - this includes some people with a disability. The law says this is okay. Choose understanding not judgement. Both have an image of a surgical mask with a circle around it and a line drawn through it. One sharegraphic has an illustration of a woman wearing a teeshirt on it. The other has an illustration of a woman sitting in a wheelchair)

05.01.2022 This is so important. "We keep hearing about health care workers and aged care workers who are incredibly important, ... but were not talking about disability workers. 01.01.2022 Hi everyone So, as the autumn continues to play out in time, the day is beautiful here in Launceston. Not sure about you, but I am feeling slightly terrified about the virus. If like me you are looking way to much at the worse case scenario - what are your plans? How will you be supported? Today, Im off to see my GP to find out about accessing face masks and I want to hear from government if our care can continue even if we get a mild case of corona. Your thoughts?
