23.01.2022 The Victorian Government today announced metropolitan Melbourne is now in a position to move to the next step of our roadmap for Victoria’s cautious and careful reopening. This is on the back of our community having worked so hard and doing the right thing to drive down case numbers. At 11.59pm 27 September, metropolitan Melbourne will move to the Second Step toward COVID Normal. Regional Victoria remains in the Third Step. This means a number of key changes for Melbourne: ... - People can now meet with another household outdoors - childcare is back for all workers - all primary school aged kids can return from 12 October - there will also be an additional 127,000 workers returning to the workforce - the curfew will no longer apply The government also announced further changes to the thresholds for the roadmap moving forward. New modelling released today indicates that Melbourne is beating the initial projections for how quickly we may hit the next steps for easing. As a result, the public health team have advised that we can remove the set dates from the roadmap, and use the thresholds as trigger points for public health advice, keeping a three week gap to ensure enough time has passed to monitor the impact of the most recent changes. This means Melbourne may move to the Third Step a week sooner, than anticipated but this will depend on the numbers coming down and the nature of the cases. 18.01.2022 The Victorian Government is undertaking the largest forest restoration effort in the state’s history with a $7.7 million operation that airlifted tonnes of eucalypt seeds into areas of forest devastated by last summer’s fires. Between May and July more than 4.5 tonnes of eucalypt seed, 3 tonnes of which came from VicForests’ contingency reserves, was spread by helicopter across nearly 11,500 hectares of fire ravaged country. The re-seeding focuses on areas of nationally disti...nctive forests in Gippsland and North East Victoria that also suffered the impacts of fire in 2003, 2007 and 2014, and were severely burned again in the 2019/20 season. The 2019/20 summer fires severely impacted Alpine Ash forests in both State forests and national parks, creating concern that without action some plant species could be compromised. The project is being delivered by the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning in partnership with VicForests, Parks Victoria, and contractors from regional Victoria. More than 56 people have been working on the reforestation project. All activity has complied with DHHS requirements to prioritise the safety of the Victorian community as well as staff. https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/airlift-operation-bring-fore
