24.01.2022 My first bulk cook up in my new house. And she’s loving it! #kitchari is an ancient #ayurvedic recipe known to balance the body and mind. Summer can make for a sluggish digestion so even though it’s hot, if your gut is struggling now (or anytime) then cooked foods are the way to go. And smaller amounts throughout the day. No BIG dinners for those of us with sensitive and demanding guts. I like to have kitchari twice a week for the whole day. Small bowls. It’s so yummy it’...s ridiculous. Today I added the veggies I had in my fridge to the basic recipe. (Below) If you’re worried about the white rice and it’s carb content - remember that when you cook carbs, then cool them - they no longer metabolise in your body as carbs normally do. That’s right folks! Even if you then reheat them. Think potato salad, nori rolls, leftover roast spuds, rice salad, fried rice... Here’s my basic recipe. I doubled this recipe today and will freeze most of it, and pull one out the morning before I want to EAT IT! All organic ingredients are recommended, naturally. #janellasrecipes #goodgutfood #delicioushealthyfood for the #bodymindsoul #spleenrecipes And a video clip here of me making it! https://www.instagram.com/p/BvXoRswgViE/ KITCHARI RECIPE * 2 Tbsp of ghee (or coconut oil) * 1/2 cup of split yellow mung dahl * 1/2 cup of white rice * 2 tsp cumin seeds * 2 tsp fennel seeds * 2 tbsp freshly grated ginger * 1tsp turmeric powder or 1 tbsp fresh root grated * pinch of black pepper * 1 tsp of asafoetida * 1 tsp #dulseflakes * 4 shiitake mushrooms, fresh or dried * 10-15 curry leaves * 1 big tsp good salt * 1 onion (finely chopped) * 1-3 garlic cloves (finely chopped) * 4-8 cups of water (can be adjusted according to how long you soak your rice and lentils for and how thick you like it). Method - soak your rice and lentils together for a few hours, or overnight then rinse. Then add them to your herbs and spices that you’ve sautéed in the ghee or oil. Add the water and cook on a low simmer until the rice and lentils are soft.



21.01.2022 My ‘Seafood Lasagne’ from #janellaswholefoodkitchen I usually make this or a version of every Xmas. This is an older recipe so I tweak it a bit these days. For the white sauce you can use organic butter, olive oil or another #vegan alternative instead of the #omegaspread and organic gluten-free or white spelt flour, or any flour you like really. #spelt or organic wheat lasagne sheets are easier to digest that refined wheat sheets. This lasagne is always a crowd pleaser. Use #line and pole seafood, not ‘sustainable’. That just means it’s been farmed. And that means #antibiotics and toxic food colouring added (for fresh salmon). Buy local ‘wild’ seafood. #buylocal #sulphurfreeprawns

20.01.2022 Coconut + Peanut Butter Rough - definitely one of my more popular recipes. And the feedback I get, besides it’s very yummy- is that it’s MY fault if you eat the entire thing in 2 days. Ok so how about making half a batch and eating it in a week? So funny what sweets do to us. And really, if you don’t over stuff your face then it’s better for you to eat this yummy thing than not. Antioxidants, iron, calcium, happiness, omega oils, joy, wonderful for thyroid health, a ste...ady weight, anti-Candida and loads of fibre for a happy gut. Today I put a piece into a smoothy with oat milk and frozen banana. STOP IT! I’m still full and I had that around 3pm. Go’on! Make a batch for Xmas. Just try to leave some for your guests. 12.01.2022 I just went flower collecting around my property and came back with lots of pink and red blooms. The red ones here are #passionflower used in herbal medicine for sleep, add to reduce anxiety. They create a sense of calm and ease. You can get passionflower tea from health food stores, or get the strong tincture or tablets. 10.01.2022 Xmas lunch at my place yesterday. First time without my birth family, or a partner’s family - but instead with some of my tribe. What a divine and relaxed day. We all did a dish or 3, and naturally everything was organic, either grown ourselves or locally. Mostly #vegan with a little goat’s cheese in one of the lasagnes. I picked up some freshly caught green prawns from the @newbrightonfarmersmarket so I made them into #garlicprawns Hardly any washing up last night either as we all shared the cooking. The wine! (Pictured) From @organicpassion family vineyard. Oh heavens! It tasted like an old-world elixir that dripped sweet berry tasting goodness into your body. Great Xmas day. 09.01.2022 I made these lovely #blissballs for a ladies lunch this week. Served after a #felafel spread. For the bliss balls I used dried figs, #cardamom (just a tiny bit) dates, rose petals and #rosewater and #walnuts and #tahini then rolled them in #almondmeal and sprinkled with more #rosepetals I served them with tea - black tea leaves that I simmered with fresh #mint leaves, strained then out back in the pot and added honey. #sweetdelight #janellasrecipes

07.01.2022 #transgenerational trauma is not something we talk about over dinner. But...maybe it’s time we did. It’s very real and very painful and affects most of our lives. I’ve touched on this subject in my latest book #your40daytranaformation and am so deeply fascinated by it that I’m writing my next book on this immensely interesting and powerful subject. ... ‘The Red Thread’ - the chord of trans-generational trauma - is passed from mother to daughter, and on it goes - until someone has 4th stage endometriosis with their first bleed at 12yo. 04.01.2022 Hi! I’ve been absent yes. That’s coz I’ve been moving house/rural properties - and dealing with life at the same time, as is needed. I think it should be mandatory to have a 2 week break from everything apart from the task at hand when moving house. For #adrenalhealth at least. I moved to an area (close by) with no 3g or 4g. I’m pretty happy about that but it does make communicating slightly more difficult. Internet and the ol’ landline now connected so it’s business as u...sual for consults with me. I unpacked my books and bed first. Priorities right? I’ve moved into a much smaller house, on 7 acres along a 300m creek - so boxes of #nonessential books and stuff are under the house. For now! 02.01.2022 My summer alcoholic drink of choice. Vodka, coconut water and a sphere -shaped ice cube with a slice of orange. It’s really good and no added sugar! The coconut water is especially hydrating so that’s helpful when having alcohol. This lovely Crystal glass was bought for 5 quid in 1948. It’s was passed down to my father from an old friend of his many years ago, and Dad gave it to me last year. It’s a piece of beauty and history. #summerinthehinterland #healthyandyummyoptions

02.01.2022 Nothing exciting in the fridge? How ‘bout this! Leftover veggies are handy - roasted, steamed, stir fried or raw. Today I warmed up the steamed broccoli from last night in my cast iron pan - with a little olive oil, garlic and salt. I took it out then poured in 2 beaten eggs. Then placed the broccoli over half of the eggs with some red onion and a little grating of #pecorino (sheep’s cheese is much easier to digest btw). Topped it with fermented tomato salsa and a little side of #dijonmustard and @ceres.foods aioli (trying it out for the first time).
