24.01.2022 Science can involve so much learning even if the children think that they are just having lots of fun.

24.01.2022 International Mud Day is a Fun Day. Start with a pile of dirt. Spread it out a bit. Add some water. Then have fun.

24.01.2022 Mud Play - lots of mixing using sand, dirt and water before some had to try the creations

24.01.2022 Children are constantly watching the big people in their lives and learning how we do things, even if we don’t always notice. Ethan was in the cubby which, over the years, the children have turned into a sand/mud kitchen where they are free to experiment and play however they like. He decided to do some cooking and mimicked what he has seen big people do. Firstly he collected some ingredients, emptied them into the mixing bowl, mixed them together, poured them into the co...okware, placed them in the microwave, turned it on, waited for the goodies to cook, took them out, let them cool a bit, transferred them to a tray, then placed the tray in the refrigerator. As you can see, this was quite an involved process with lots of steps along the way which Ethan completed effortlessly without any "big people" input.

24.01.2022 We are delighted and humbled to have been announced as the winner of the 2020 Family Day Care Australia Educator of the Year Award for the Toowoomba, Darling Downs, Somerset and Lockyer Region. We thank those who nominated us and it is nice to be recognised for "just doing our job". There are many wonderful Educators throughout Australia and we would like to congratulate them all for the wonderful work they all do.

22.01.2022 Another fun morning at Flourish Community Gardens had the children planting seeds in readiness for planting next month. Then it was time to get dirty as the children planted some seedlings before watering them.

20.01.2022 Starting another community connection with Flourish Community Gardens

20.01.2022 Kids need time.

14.01.2022 Family Day Care is all about building relationships and with the Covid-19 issues lately, at times it has been hard for the children to see each other as much as they would like. In partnership with their parents, we were able to change schedules so that Amity could have a day with her FDC Brother Liam. This allowed Amity to give Liam a Birthday present of his favourite Mint Slice biscuits along with a homemade birthday card where every marking had a special meaning. They then continued to have a fun day together with indoor activities and some outside play in-between light drizzle.

14.01.2022 We joined Annie and Dan at the Flourish Community Gardens where the story "I Do Not Eat the Colour Green" by Lynne Rickards are was read. The children were shown around the gardens and encouraged to try the various foods, to which they eagerly participated, with a few shakes of the body at the unfamiliar tastes. We will now make this a regular monthly excursion with Empowered Family Day Care Service committing to our own garden bed, so the children will be involved from the start of weeding and planting seeds/plants to share with the community.

14.01.2022 Today Marci asked if she could pick a carrot from our garden to eat. I said ‘yes’ so we picked some but she asked me to take the crusts off. I soon realised it was the leaves she wanted off. So we went back for more for Mummy and Daddy. Healthy eating at Marci’s house tonight.

14.01.2022 Today we joined with other Educators from Empowered FDC for Day for Daniel. Red was the order of the day with the children being involved in a child safety activity, where an Educator tried to entice them to go with her using lollies as a treat. The children all responded with a loud ‘NO’.

13.01.2022 Kicking off this years' National Reconciliation Week, we are taking a moment to share our Acknowledgement of Country and share our respect for the Traditional Owners of the Land we are on because we are all #InThisTogether. Reconciliation Australia #NRW2020

13.01.2022 My son and I made a little story this week to brighten up your day... Feel free to share with those who need a smile.

08.01.2022 As grown-ups we are often ready to step in and help children do things we consider them needing help with. Often we are wrong. Ryley wanted to go for a spin on the spider swing and I was about to offer to spin it for him. Just before I did so, Ryley started the process of winding up the swing himself and then managed to scramble onto it before enjoying his spin. By the look of joy on his face, this was far more satisfying than if I had helped.

07.01.2022 It's not a race at all.

06.01.2022 We recently had someone come in and replace a fence post which had rotted away. Ryley decided to help "The Man" dig the hole for the new post. This is video 2 of his assisting.

05.01.2022 As educators / adults / parents, we sometimes look for what we consider to be the children's big, awesome achievements so that we can record them and show the world how great they are. Maybe we should view more things from a child's perspective and acknowledge the awesome achievement of finally being able to put on your shoes by yourself.

05.01.2022 Empowered Family Day Care Service presents a weekly simultaneous story time for all of the Service's Educators and their children. This week Liam "guest presented" the story "Where is the Green Sheep?" and we have posted it here so that all of our children can view it. Well done and thanks Liam.

03.01.2022 Swings are a favourite activity of the children, little do they realise the benefits that they are receiving.

02.01.2022 The September school holidays is normally a time when we take part in two exciting excursions; week 1 we take the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers Train Trip to Spring Bluff and in week 2 we go to the Darling Downs Zoo. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 travel restrictions both trips were cancelled this year, much to the disappointment of all. However, at virtually the last minute, restrictions eased a bit and we were able to go to the zoo. Due to the current circumstances ther...e were some changes to proceedings, such as the usual feeding time tour no longer operating. This meant that we didn’t follow a zookeeper around the zoo and see the animals perform at feeding time. This had some benefits though as we also weren’t in a big group, rushing from display to display, trying to get a good view of the animals. Instead, we were able to leisurely stroll around the zoo, stopping where we wanted to, for as long as we wanted to. The children also took the opportunity to go off track and play on some of the unused areas and logs, etc. As it was not feeding time as we passed by, many of the animals in the larger enclosures stayed further away. However, we were able to feed some kangaroos, emus, ostrich and zebras as well as seeing the new baby zebra. After a very enjoyable day the children reminded us that we had to purchase our traditional ice-cream before departing.
