25.01.2022 So I got a little creative yesterday while the little guy was sleeping. Once I start making a batch of soap I cant stop, so needed to do something I could leave if he woke up. Heres the results (except the cup). The cup was already made and something ( probably a bird) kept removing the Haworthia I planted at the front. Weird! Anyway, enjoy. Theres no lye left in our cured soap, but it is needed for the chemical reaction called saponification to occur. 24.01.2022 This is my video of the making of Rose Petal Castile Soap. Castile soap is a single oil soap made from olive oil. Its a very mild soap once cured - the longer the better. I apologise as I am a soap maker, not a video maker and I have no idea how to edit (except to chop off the ends) so you get what I video lol. 17.01.2022 Castile Soap is made using olive oil as the only oil, or 100% olive oil. This is my restock of Lavender Castile. I find Castile soap gives me more time to work with a swirl so in this soap I do a drop swirl - pouring each colour separately and from up higher so it breaks through the colour below essentially creating its own patterns. I love the swirls created with this method. I make this soap with reduced water and I cure for at least 4 months. Castile soap benefits from the extra cure and it creates a milder soap. 16.01.2022 I just thought Id post a little comparison photo for anyone who may be a bit skeptical about trying my awesome Shampoo and Conditioner Bars. First pic is from several months ago, 2nd pic is from today. I dont use any product apart from these and the results are still amazing! I also have very few dry split ends which is also amazing as I havent had a cut (or colour - whoops ) since December. This eco-friendly form of shampoo and conditioner (2 separate bars and no pl...astic in sight) is not soap. They are great for everyday use, although you may find you dont need to wash everyday. Theyre also great for travelling, caravanning and camping as they dont take up much room and they wont leak. They really are worth a try, and I have sample sized travel packs available that will last 10 plus washes, probably far more. 04.01.2022 Soap making is a science. When you mix lye with the oils it starts a chemical reaction that turns the oils to soap. This process is called saponification. One of the interesting things is that youre never sure what youre going to end up with. I mean, you have some idea because of the colours etc but not the exact results, until you cut it. This is my Coconut Milk Soap - just cut. One thing I am sure of is that every batch of Coconut Milk Soap is like this every time I c...ut it, then as it cures the rest of the bar turns a creamy white.
