21.01.2022 Christ on the Cross painted by Rembrandt in 1631 was a major inspiration for my novel. When visiting St Vincents church in Les Mas-dAgenais, France a few years ago I learned about the recent discovery of this painting in 1960. It was unrecognisable, hidden in the sacristy and blackened with soot from candles. It has had many visits to the Louvre for conservation work.
