25.01.2022 This video It’s Time to Talk is a very powerful video on sexual assault and consent, created by members of the Macedon Ranges Youth Ambassadors.... familiar faces to many because of the many inspiring activities they have been involved in over the years. This also involved support from Macedon Ranges Youth, the Centre Against Sexual Assault Central Victoria and Storyland Studios. There is a trigger warning as well as contact numbers for support as we know there is a chance people may be affected by the content.

23.01.2022 We celebrate NAIDOC Week because it is important to recognise and celebrate our rich history, diverse cultures and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Macedon Ranges is very proud to be on the the Country of Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People who are the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land and Waterways. We recognise their continued care of Country and we have learnt and continue to learn so much from them. I have att...ended some wonderful, respectful and informative events and welcome to Country over the years. It is always emotional when Elders speak and share what Country means to them. It touches our hearts. I am so pleased to see that this is recognised and celebrated in our Shire and with our young people. A beautiful smoking ceremony to open discussion. In the spirit of Reconciliation we all need to reflect, learn, promote understanding and talk about how we can all contribute to support, connect, respect and work together with the Traditional Owners and Custodians. 17.01.2022 In 1918, after more than four years of war there was silence and 11am on the 11 November marks this moment. Remembrance Day commemorates the signing of the armistice and is a time to remember and pay respects to those who have given their lives. The Woodend Returned Services League (RSL) organised a small event which importantly also included and involved young people from the local schools- Braemar, Sacred Heart College Kyneton, Hesket Primary, St Ambrose Parish Primary Sc...hool, Woodend Primary School. The Woodend Lifestyle Carers provided catering and we appreciated as always hearing Frank’s beautiful voice. Ken’s personal speech was touching, the moving sound of the bugle and the one minute silence. Lest We Forget See more

17.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I am so happy and proud to be re-elected as a Councillor representing the West ward and all residents of the Macedon Ranges Shire. I want to acknowledge all those candidates that put their hands up. It is difficult to describe how it feels to put yourself out to the public during an election. I have learnt a lot. I will continue as l have over the past four years- to listen, learn, support community and business, work hard and advocate... for our Shire. Thanks to my family (Sam and Eva managed to get there today) and my friends who have supported and sent messages... you know who you are and l am truly grateful. Excited and looking forward to working with Councillors, Staff and our Community again. Happy to chat. Thank you. Best wishes and stay safe Janet See more

16.01.2022 Last Thursday the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) Victoria launched the mentoring program which is supported by the State Government. We are excited to see 273 women have been elected - 44.2% which is the highest representation across the nation.... and how fitting that this has occurred in the year we celebrate the first women elected to Local Government- Mary Rogers 100 years ago. I joined the mentoring program four years ago when l was first elected and it was a wonderful support. There are many experienced women who have been re-elected or have chosen to retire from local government for the moment who have a wealth of knowledge to share and it is important it is not lost. We appreciate the State government supporting this program.

15.01.2022 In 2018 the State Government made a commitment that the Old Kyneton Primary School in the centre and heart of the town on Baynton Street would be a place for the community and retained in the hands of the community. Today 50 members of the community gathered as Mary-Anne Thomas MP announced $12 million funding- looking to the future, ensuring it is upgraded with public spaces and a creative art hub. Working in with other art galleries, providing the opportunity for workshops,... community spaces..... We heard that following an Expression of Interest the State is working with an applicant to finalise details. At the announcement representatives from Daylsford Macedon Ranges Tourism and Bendigo Art Gallery spoke about the opportunities this will generate for our Shire and Central Victoria as an Arts and Culture destination and an opportunity, inspiration and home for creative artists and artisans and tourism (this is one of the four key tourism pillars for our region) and a communuty hub. We know how special this site is for the community and we were assured they will be a central part of this. It will stay in public hands and a land manager will be appointed by the government. We thank the State Government for this funding for this iconic site and can’t wait to hear more details. Thanks for the community photo Lenka. See more

12.01.2022 So many photos and people talking about the Twilight Shopping evening... about the turnout - people of all ages, families, cycling, skating, walking, running, lights, music, conversations and celebrations... supporting local business and to top it all off an amazing Christmas tree... (you thought l was going to say the nudie run!). Photo below posted by Nadine. Congratulations and huge thanks to Catherine, Shaz and the entire team of volunteers and organising team.

11.01.2022 So much to talk about. Today marks the start of the United Nations (UN) 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence. The global theme Orange the World: Fund , Respond, Prevent, Collect! Today marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (which started back in 1960 in recognition of the Mirabal sisters- Patria, Minerva and Maria Theresa) and on 10 December is World Human Rights Day. Cr Anderson and l were pleased to be invited and join with ma...ny community groups and people of all ages to unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory attitudes and call for improved laws and services to end violence against women. The Macedon Ranges Family Violence Network (MRFVN) coordinated the effort from a huge group including Cobaw Community Health, Kyneton Zonta Club, Macedon Ranges Health, Council, Victoria Police, Kyneton District Health, Central Vic Primary Care Network (CVPCP), State departments, Neighbourhood Houses( NH) and others working together as one powerful voice. Proud Taungurung Elder Aunty Jo Honeysett began with a Welcome to Country speaking about respect which is central to this discussion and also justice. We look forward to seeing the work of Kyneton High School students who spoke about their animation video which highlights peer pressure, learnings and feeling safe. It will be a wonderful resource to share. We are pleased to see the Orange Door initiative will commence in our Shire. Then we gathered together with dance. Everyone can experience family violence but we know the majority are women. There are so many statistics but it’s about gender equality, sexist attitudes, and rigid stereotypes ... and the message is to call it out. The statues represent 45 women and 11 children who have lost their lives due to family violence this year. We paid tribute to the survivors of family violence who share their stories to help shape reform. We all need to be involved and let’s go beyond 16 days. See more

10.01.2022 Lots happening in the youth scene. Nominations close today for recognising the contributions of young people in our Shire at the upcoming Macedon Ranges Youth Awards. Information on the website and Facebook pages. We are also looking for interested and talented musicians to support the awards event. Congratulations to recent winners of the Battle of the Bands as well- First place- Sage Rock. Second- Lavinia Music. Third- Kreeper and Bridget Bourke. The statewide organisation that represents the issues and interests of young people and youth services across Victoria is YACVIC. They are hosting online forums hosted by young people to hear and share ideas about what young people feel would help make their lives happier, safer, healthier and successful to help shape the new Victorian Government Youth Strategy.

09.01.2022 Such a lovely recent event- the virtual unveiling of the Mary Rogers plaque. An inspiring women and fingers crossed as we await the results this week.

08.01.2022 Importantly we commenced our term on Council with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by proud Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Bill Nicholson. We thank him for sharing his extensive cultural knowledge with us. He spoke about working together, respect, acknowledging , learning, unity, rights, traditions, reconciliation ... and much more. Very relevant for a team of Councillors and we all need to be committed to continue open communication and work together with the Traditiinal Owners and Custodians. Then the election- Congratulations to Cr Jennifer Anderson elected as Mayor and Cr Mark Ridgeway as Deputy Mayor . I look forward to working together.
