25.01.2022 JANUARY'S VIT C There's no Vitamin C in fruit. That is, unless it's picked from the tree within 7 days. So fruit's not worth eating apart from the fibre and a scarce variety of minerals out of season. This month of January is the time to get your Vitamin C from tomatoes, stone fruits, mangoes and melons. Thumbs down for apples, oranges and pears which are all autumn and winter fruits.

23.01.2022 DESTINATION HAPPINESS Catch me on this Youtube clip from last Saturday's Channel 9 TV appearance. Thanks go to my friend Angie Hilton for taking the time to come and visit us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9j1vLtsfCg&feature=youtu.be... www.goldcoastdetoxandrehabservice.com

22.01.2022 GOING TO HOGWARTS Going to Naturopathy College in 1991 was like going to Hogwarts. I had come from the boring world of university science and entered into the world of magical cures and potions. Everyone was a misfit like me, looking for their soul's purpose. We were overdosing, manifesting, purging, fasting, scraping, rubbing, doing enemas and making concoctions. There were no restrictions on what we learned by the government and my teachers were white witches. The good old days.

21.01.2022 My amazing student Naturopath Teresa is taking new clients Wednesday morning. If you have menopausal symptoms, come on in and get a hot flush formula.

21.01.2022 FOOD STRATEGY I've never understood how businesses lose staff and complain about the cost of training new ones. There's an easy way to keep staff. Feed them. No fancy HR management strategies. It's old fashioned, but it works. I employ 7 staff and we feed them every shift. And there's method to my madness. It saves them money and time, it improves their energy levels and immunity and it promotes team connectedness.

21.01.2022 THE BIG THREE The three greatest medicine breakthroughs of all time have all been plant based: painkillers (opium), anti-inflammatories (aspirin) and antibiotics (fungi). They still remain the most used pharmaceuticals. So what's with the resistance to using herbal medicine.

21.01.2022 BAD VALUE JAB Any vaccine that is only 90% coverage, requiring a booster in a month and only lasting 12 months, is quite possibly the worst vaccine ever produced in history. We had better vaccines in the 1950s. Not good value for tax payers money if 10% people can get CoVid in an epidemic. They are the same statistics for not being vaccinated during a Covid epidemic.

21.01.2022 Amen. Don't rob yourself of progesterone, lay an egg every month to get the benefits of feel-good progesterone.

20.01.2022 IT'S NOT SUGAR Don't let your dentist blame your cavities on sugar. We had tooth decay way before sugar entered our diet 200 years ago. Ancient skulls commonly revealed dental caries. And really, high sugar diets have only been since the 1950s post-war era anyway. Teeth survival rests on the quality of your gum health. Healthy gums supply your teeth with Vit C, Zinc, Calcium and other microminerals so they become strong and disease resistant. The most common cause of childhood tooth decay is a lack of calcium in the diet.

20.01.2022 CLEAN DIETS So many of my Millenial clients love to tell me they eat a 'clean' diet. I'm guessing it translates to a Vegan diet, judging by their food choices. I'm sorry, but the only clean diet was the one that the Aboriginals ate when we found them, which was far from Vegan. There's nothing clean about being a Vegan. I don't expect for one minute our organic fruit and veg is really organic anyway, if that's what they are referring to.

19.01.2022 NASTY BAND-AIDS What's with Band-Aid allergies. When I was a kid, no-one was allergic to Band-aids. Two years ago I put some Band-Aids on and within 24 hours they had burned a hole in my skin. I've had keloid scars ever since. Tried it again recently and it happened again. Big red burns that develop into nasty wounds. Any ideas?

17.01.2022 NEW NATUROPATHIC COVID REGULATIONS No-one can leave home without 1x Vit C 1000mg, 1 x 1000mg Vit D and 10mg Zinc each morning. Vit C is to be taken before bed also. Acute infections require 1 x 1000mg Vit C every 2 hours until bowel tolerance. Everyone must take 1ml combinations of either Olive leaf, Andrographis, Astragalus or Echinacea 2 x day for prevention.... All nursing home residents must take the above, plus selenium, iron, B complex and Vitamin E with breakfast and spend 1 hour per day in sunlight. Meals need to contain antioxidants and must be fresh and nutritious. Handwashing must include colloidal silver hand rubs. Early symptoms of sore throat and fever must not be suppressed with paracetamol. Everyone must use salt water and iodine gargles and go to bed asap.

16.01.2022 CORIANDER Coriander is the great dinner party divider. There are those that do and those that don't. Nut sure why. But I do know coriander detoxifies heavy metals like lead, mercury and aluminium. That's not just normal blood purification, that's high octane liver detoxing. Too bad for those that don't, I personally can't get enough.

16.01.2022 I don’t usually comment on vaccination issues. But this is quite incredible to discover. Says it on the Flu vaccine label itself.

14.01.2022 STORE LEGUMES What sort of food should we really be storing? Pasta and rice are not a great choice in terms of nutrient value. Gotta put lentils and beans on the list as a primary food group. Legumes are a complete source of protein, so you don't lose your muscle mass or damage your organs if animal products are scarce. Fruit and veg could also get scarce in a crisis, so sprouting will save the day. You can sprout legumes in 5-7 days to get the valuable vitamin C you need. With sprouted legumes, you could live healthily for several months if not years.

12.01.2022 Fatalities dropped from 50% to 13% with open-air and sunlight exposure during the 1918 flu epidemic.

12.01.2022 ANGIE AND I I met my friend Angie Hilton 10 years ago at a meditation class. Look at us now. Angie has her own TV show and I have my own detox centre. Catch us both on Angie's show tomorrow on Channel 9's Destination Happiness at 11am QLD time (12 noon Vic time) tomorrow. That being Saturday 30th November.

11.01.2022 SAVING MY LIFE Studying Naturopathy saved my life. I was sick, tired and emotionally repressed before I studied in 1991. Little did I know that studying natural medicine would teach me self-care, life-balance, how to fix myself and how to care for others. My naturopathic colleagues have taught me about love, compassion and integrity. My clients have taught me how to communicate, connect and find wisdom through adversity. What a great investment.

11.01.2022 HORSES FOR COURSES Some of us do well on vitamins and some of us do well with acupuncture. I am obsessed with homeopathy, but it isn't for everyone. Energy healing and vibrational medicine never works on me. To those of you who say natural therapies doesn't work, try not to lump all modalities in the same category. They are all really different, and we all have different bodies. There's a therapy for everyone, you just have to keep trying new things until you find something for you.

11.01.2022 Cuba has never been one to conform to international pressure.

11.01.2022 LIQUORICE Liquorice is a crowd divider. It's 10 x the sweetness of sugar, and yet so many people hate it. In herbal medicine, there are the shoulds and should nots. Liquorice increases your blood pressure, so only those with low to normal blood pressure should take it. Bottom line is, it's an adrenal tonic par excellence, it's European Ginseng. My theory is that if you need it, you'll love it. I love it.

10.01.2022 CHEAP VEGGIES If you can't afford organic, go seasonal where possible. Seasonal produce has the least amount of chemicals because they're at their peak. You know what's seasonal when there are cheap buys, specials or reductions. I bought parsnips for $1.99 per kilo today, when they are normally up to $8 . So snap up cheap veggies, they're the best ones.

10.01.2022 ZINC CREAMS If you can't get a Zinc tablet into your little darlings, there's always Zinc cream. Zinc absorbs well into the skin and contributes to the total zinc intake. Zinc is good for eczema, acne, immunity, poor appetite, behaviour and concentration. Good old Sudocream from the Chemist for baby nappy rash is just Zinc oxide. And now there's skin coloured Zinc cream for the invisible look.

09.01.2022 If you need to see a Naturopath, but you are on a budget, my amazing students I taught in first year are now in student clinic. To book a Naturopathic consultation with one of my wonderful apprentices, just call the Endeavour Wellnations Student Clinic on 1300 859785 anytime in Southport here on the Gold Coast. I will be supervising students Wednesday and Thursday 8-12am every week until Christmas. Pop in for anything...colds, coughs, skin problems, hormonal issues, stress...Pricing is around $15 for consults.

09.01.2022 HOME HEDONISM Staying at home for us Taurean hedonists is a complete pleasure. The best part is gorging on a feast of music and film, in between eating food. Couldn't be better. Although I'm an overworker in my usual life, I secretly love being lazy. Spotify and Netflix, one of humankind's greatest achievements. Na, forget Uber Eats though.

09.01.2022 GET HELP, GET A COOK Travelling always makes me study my own culture. I'm always amazed at how much domestic help women have overseas. And that includes cooking. A middle class working woman in Asia would always have a cook. So there's no stress about needing to cook fast meals, run to the shop after work, fight the supermarket queues, argue about who eats what and pack the fridge full of snacks. So which culture is more developed, us or them.

09.01.2022 These guys have definitely been dating too many Nutrition students.

09.01.2022 LUCKY ME We will be opening our new drug and alcohol detox in a second beautiful beachfront location on the Gold Coast starting January 13th 2020. Thanks go to our new staff who will be joining us in the new year. That includes my trusted colleague and naturopath Renee Jones. Check out these new photos.

08.01.2022 SOIL MEDICINE Doctors love to tell us vitamins are just expensive urine. Which, I don't think is a problem anyway even if that was true. But no-one seems to question gardeners and farmers when they add nutrients to their soils or animal feed. Adding potassium, nitrogen, selenium and calcium is pretty standard. So what if the excess nutrients get washed away with hosing? Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Agriculturalists know nutrients create bigger yields and healthier stock. Consider yourself a gardener replenishing the soil when you take your supplements each day.

07.01.2022 THE AUSTRALIAN PARADOX The French eat a calorie-rich, high fat diet but have low rates of obesity and heart disease. This is called the French Paradox. I'm convinced we also have The Australian Paradox. Aussies and migrants living in Australia put on weight despite all healthy dietary and exercise measures, while losing weight when living overseas. My guess it's due to the poor soil quality here compared with the mineral rich soils of South-East Asia, the Pacific islands, Scandanavia, South America and the Mediterranean countries.

07.01.2022 CUBAN BROTH TIP While watching the Buena Vista Social Club on TV last night, I caught one of the veteran Cuban musicians sharing a pearl of wisdom with the camera. He said the key to his long health was eating chicken broth every day. It stops all the aches and pains and makes him feel great. The Cubans have no fancy vitamins or posh health food to rely on. Interesting, I didn't catch this last time I watched it 20 years ago...

06.01.2022 For all those people who think we're living in such a toxic world nowadays...

06.01.2022 BUMPHOBIA Interesting how my clients are so conservative about bottom issues. Olde worlde medicine was all about laxatives, fibre and enemas. In the past, we were more open about bowel habits. Now, it's all about diet and not about your rear end. This picture would never be a big seller in today's media.

05.01.2022 MAGICAL MUSHROOMS I can't stop eating these dried Shitake mushrooms. Crispy, pungent and earthy. Why not get your hit of salt and seasoning with your immune modulation in one go. Shitake mushrooms are considered a superfood in Asia, being highly indicated for auto-immunity and chronic infection.

05.01.2022 BREIF GLORY A cocaine high only lasts 15-20 minutes. If one gram is now $300 in Australia, so four grams of coke quickly becomes a $1200 a day habit. The financial strain on cocaine users is a double whammy of stress. Addiction plus debt. Doing a cocaine detox can be cheaper than your habit.

05.01.2022 VIP COKE DETOX We now offer VIP packages for a 7 day cocaine addiction withdrawal in our new designer home location 5 mins from Coolangatta airport. See our website for more details: www.goldcoastdetoxandrehab.com

04.01.2022 FRIENDS As I've grown older and look at other people's difficult friendships, I've come to realise that natural therapists make great friends. My network of therapist colleagues are the most supportive people, always willing to help you through a crisis. Thank you to all my lovely friends who are such great value, low maintenance and intelligent open-minded company. And they can all cook.

03.01.2022 THEY RUN THE SHOW If we as a society continue to believe doctors are the only ones who have the authority to heal us, then we will continue to be powerless when national health decisions are to be made. In the last 100 years, we have surrendered our health over to medicine, who now has the full control to convince our governments that they know what's best for us. We have created this situation by staying ignorant of our own basic health education, thereby becoming vulnerable to beaurocratic control. My grandmother knew exactly what to do with viruses in our family, and a doctor never told her what to do.

03.01.2022 MAGLOMANIA What's with the vitamin ranges in local pharmacies these days. Even with so many brands, you can only get Magnesium, Magnesium and more Magnesium. Rows and rows of it. No Calcium, no B vits and no Iron to be seen anymore. While Magnesium is excellent, it's not the be all of vitamins. Too much magnesium will give you bone pain, insomnia, osteoporosis and leg cramping. We need other stuff too.

02.01.2022 MELATONIN What's with Melatonin, does it work or doesn't it. It seems to work for some and not others. It's particularly useful for insomnia caused by sleep deprivation, changes in sleep patterns and shift work. Also used for drug withdrawal causing insomnia, particularly Cannabis withdrawal. Your doctor can prescribe 2-3mg tablets here in Australia, but it can be increased safely to 10mg if necessary. If it doesn't work in the first 30 mins after taking, it may not work for you. Trial it for 3 nights, if it doesn't work, you're one of the unlucky ones.

01.01.2022 SIMPLE VIT C Knowledge sometimes does a full circle. I have recently been super impressed by the addition of Vit C to my prescriptions, although I have always used it. Vit C was the very first thing we learn about in Naturopathy College. Allergies, hayfever, viruses, colds, headaches, high cholesterol, pain...gone. If it hasn't worked, up the dose and frequency. It's the simplest and cheapest medicine of all. Back to the basics.

01.01.2022 OPEN SESAME When you go to your GP and request a blood test yourself, you may be refused. Your GP must first order the standard testing before new tests are ordered. If these initial tests do not suggest anything worth pursuing they are not obliged to have you tested for anything else unless highly indicated. so if you need eg. Cortisol, IgEs, Pyrroles, T3 and t4, Barmah Forrest Virus or anything out of the norm, you may get a no. Answer? Offer to pay out of pocket. The Medicare gateway magically opens when you pay up front.

01.01.2022 SAVE MY DOCS So my house was underwater Saturday. I ring my Millenial teenager who was on a sleepover to say don't come home sometime soon. Her first response was 'Are my Doc Martins OK?' . Since when are Doc Martens so fragile anyway, haven't they realised these shoes would survive an atomic explosion.
