24.01.2022 N E T W O R T H = Assets - Liabilities Calculating your Net Worth is achieved by calculating your total assets and then deducting your total liabilities.... Knowing this single number can be the difference in how you feel about your personal finances AND financial position.

23.01.2022 How lucky are we to have these in our Mallee back yard! If your sitting in limbo wondering if a Financial Planner can help or wondering when is the right time to seek financial advice, this is just a glimpse of some of the reasons/areas covered during my appointments of the past couple of days. A (very) young farming family who are looking at protecting their position, not only for themselves but for their newborn child. ... A divorcee tying to navigate financial life post separation and gain a better understanding of finances Great-grandparents looking to secure their retirement income needs following government pensions being ceased (Almost) empty nesters reassessing where they are financially (and personally) as they look forward. 23.01.2022 MASKS ON FARMS From 11:59pm on Sunday face masks will become mandatory for all Victorians when out of their homes. Premier Daniel Andrews has this afternoon c...larified when masks need to be worn for those who live on farms. The premier called for a common-sense approach, and gave a number of situational examples of when a mask is required. Essentially: If youre working alone on your farm and not coming into contact with other people, a mask IS NOT needed. If youre working on your farm with people who live in the same house as you, a mask IS NOT needed. If youre working on your farm alongside people who do not live in the same house as you, a mask IS REQUIRED. If its a family farm and you and members of your household, then common sense tells you that you dont need to wear a mask, Mr Andrews said. But once you go past the front gate and go into town you would (need to wear a mask). If youve got staff or if youve got people coming to your property to make deliveries or to collect livestock for instance or if you have staff coming onto your property logic just says put your mask on because that person is not part of your household. Even though the farm is your home, thats then a workplace.

19.01.2022 RBA continues to hold the current cash rate. (Yes, it may be Yesterdays News... but its been a big week in a Victorian Border Town!)

19.01.2022 Don’t you just love community spirit!!! Last Friday saw the @ouyen_united_kangas 2020 cropping program come full circle....which hopefully also means $$ in the bank and less raffle tickets needing to be sold in 2021. It’s a strange feeling not to have local footy and netball each weekend during winter, but also awesome to know that the club has some amazing and awesome volunteers willing to jump in and lend a hand (and their machinery) when it’s needed!... Repost from @sunrise_ag

18.01.2022 We know its often hard to talk about some things and in our profession there is a few. But if your trying to get the conversation started at home, heres a couple of little tips to get you kick started. 1. It takes time - just because you are ready to talk about it, doesnt mean the other party is. Give them the space to do their own thinking on the subject and come back to it in a week or so. 2. Follow up a recent event - Has something happened to someone/persons t...hat you know and this is an area you are concerned with or what to explore? Sometimes these events are on everyones minds, especially if it is death, transitioning the family farm, or seeing someone with the freedom to do things you never thought they would be able to do. 3. Be open to other peoples thoughts and ideas. Everyone is different and has varying needs and will have different coping levels. What is right for one person is not necessarily right for another and sometimes working through ideas, vs downright writing them off will actually allow you to come to a better solution. Create a space where everyone feels comfortable and heard. AND remember, somethings take time! Struggling to get the conversation started? Please feel free to reach out and discuss how I may be able to help you with these types of conversations. Regardless if its just you, you and your partner, or your whole family - there is a solution for all family sizes. Direct message me from here or give me a call at 0457 161 958. See more

13.01.2022 Superannuation Tip No. 7 If making a year end super contribution is one of your regular tax planning strategies, does making a lump sum contribution cause angst or unease that you need to find or make that contribution in one lump sum? One way to aid with cash flow is to set up a regular deposit to your fund on a monthly basis, or (if employed) start sacrificing on a monthly basis.... It is important to remember the consequences of doing this I.e. limited opportunities to access funds once contributed, so be sure to discuss with your financial planner or tax accountant before proceeding. . . . And remember, get your super contributions in this week to ensure they clear before June 30! See more

11.01.2022 September 20, 1985 - It could be your families magic date! If you still hold farming land that was: - Purchased prior to 20 September 1985 - Still has titles held in the original owner/s names... And are considering starting your family farm succession planning transition be sure to reach out before you start.. There are potential strategy options available to you, which we can discuss (along with your Accountant) about how you can best minimise potential capital gain tax implications, not only for the next generation, but also potentially for future generations to come.

11.01.2022 PSA: did you see this article shared across your social media? Please please please, do not be frightened off on Family Farm Succession Planning simply because of the ‘reaction grabbing’ headline and scare summary that has been used in the ‘free to read’ version of this article. Yes - taxation issues may arise as a result of succession planning... Yes - stamp duty taxes may be payable as a result of succession planning Yes - succession planning may be complex and not just in terms of family dynamics. BUT With the right advisory team (Accountants/Financial Planners/Solicitors) all working TOGETHER, communicating with each other and working FOR YOU, it is possible to have a successful succession planning transition with minimal implications - it may just take time. Ironically, for those that only had the opportunity to read the ‘free’ online version, this is exactly what the full article says - albeit only in the last paragraph - ‘Long-term succession planning is the only solution and we are talking five to 10 year horizons for any succession plan’. (Side note: it also could take more depending on your situation). When done right, family farm succession planning can have benefits not only for the immediate incoming generation, but also future generations - but it is important to start early...not simply because you are thinking you should retire. It’s never too early to start family farm succession planning and if your Accountant/Financial Planner/Solicitor thinks it’s all too hard to deal with or that you don’t need to worry about that now - perhaps it’s time to seek a second opinion. For those interested, I’ve posted the full article in the comments.

03.01.2022 FINANCES FEELING FOGGY? This was the road on the way to my outreach visit in Birchip this morning. Pretty foggy right? It was tiring. I had absolutely no confidence in knowing what was coming towards me. No chance of even thinking about or considering overtaking. I seconded guessed everything that I was doing. Unsure of how close wildlife may have been to jumping/running out onto the road. Flustered because even though Id allowed extra time, I was still going to be slightl...y late. Annoyed because the truck in front of me was going slow...Did I say tiring? Why have told you this? Financial Fog can leave you feeling a little bit the same way. The bonus I had today was that the fog lifted almost 2 hours in and the last 45mins was clean sailing, no stress, no frustration - just a clear pathway to lead me on. When you dont take the time to understand, take stock or take control of your finances, everyday life can feel a bit like driving on a foggy morning...just on repeat 24/7, 7 days a week. If your ready to take control now, reach out and connect - Id love to have a chat : 0457 161 958 or direct message me straight from this page.

03.01.2022 Im not sure that there is anything better after everything thats been going on these past few months than seeing small communities come back to life for Thursday night footy and netball training - especially when it is to benefit our juniors! Country sporting clubs are the heart of our small communities and they exist for so many more reasons than simply being an outlet that provides locals with somewhere to play sport. They provide an outlet for social interaction. A place... where all community members can be equal. They remove boundaries (invisible or otherwise) that some people feel exist outside of sport. They offer mental relief and an opportunity to unwind. A place where burdens can be shelved at the gate on the way in or where burdens can be carried in, shared, divided and conquered. A place where we can feel at home. A safe place for all family and community members. Its hard to observe from a distance and to only swing by for a moment in time - but the sweet sounds singing out across the oval really was pure bliss!
