24.01.2022 Sharing this just so people are aware. Ive received phone calls about fake Tax Office debts and found them to be intimidating. If you are unsure of your tax debt, or any debt for that matter, you can always ring and confirm with the ATO, or company you have the debt with.

21.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder for employers Payment Summaries need to be lodged with the Tax Office by the 14th of July 2019. I do mine electronically through my accounting software (Quickbooks). There are other options available.

21.01.2022 When I was at H&R block I overhead a client tell one of the consultants about this app. I had to investigate and havent regretted it. This app is fantastic. You can take photos of your receipts and keep them electronically. You can record deductions when incurred, and better yet, the app adds them up for you. You can also record business kilometres. I will admit I havent seen the taxation side of the app. Being a shocker for keeping receipts, and track of kms I do use this app.

21.01.2022 Considering my wonderful husband decided to share my page so people would like it, I thought I better start posting on it. The plan for this page (and my yet to be created blog) is to post hints and tips for businesses. As a bookkeeper and accountant , I have seen many things over the years. I want to be able to share some of my experience with you to help your business grow.

19.01.2022 i just had to share this. It is a really good example of over exaggerating your claim.

14.01.2022 For anyone thinking of starting a business, this might be useful

12.01.2022 My first tip for businesses, is to please keep personal transactions out of your business bank account. I know it is much easier to have one bank account for business and personal transactions, and I am guilty of it as well. Mixing personal and business transactions causes the following problems: Most importantly, it costs you more money. The more transactions there are, the longer it takes it takes to process, and the more your bookkeeper charges you... Secondly, decisions need to made if a transaction is personal or business. Either the bookkeeper is making assumptions, or they are asking you a lot of questions (which takes time and costs you money) A typical example is a Bunnings purchase. If the receipt is missing, and you are going by a bank transaction it is impossible to tell what was purchased, and if it is business or personal. If the expense is business related, you will miss out on the deduction if it is treated as personal. If it is treated as a business expense, and it is not, a Tax Office audit may pick it up. Thirdly, an external person (your bookkeeper) is seeing every transaction that goes through that account. As a bookkeeper I dont want to know how much you spend on alcohol and cigarettes every month. I dont want to know you have a gambling problem. So, please be mindful that someone else is looking at your records. .

10.01.2022 I laughed when I read about the family claiming their childs first birthday party, and the wedding reception. Whilst these claims are obviously not deductible, there are areas that arent so clear. Work clothing would have to be the biggest issue, and is the topic of my next post.

04.01.2022 I was intrigued by this post firstly because it demonstrates the extent taxpayers will misrepresent the circumstances. It also demonstrates steps the Tax Office will do to confirm a claim. They contacted the taxpayers employer.

04.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Weve seen an increase in scam text messages (SMS) offering fake tax refunds. These messages will usually ask you to click a link to claim a refu...nd, and may appear to come from the ATO. Dont click the link or anywhere in the message, even if it seems legit. Dont provide your personal info. Well never ask for your details over text message. Warn your family and friends to watch out for this scam. 02.01.2022 This is well worth reading. During my time as an accountant/bookkeeper I have seen many people try to claim deductions for items they genuinely believed they are entitled to. Some have been allowable, and some have not. If you have any questions at all, ask your accountant or bookkeeper. We much prefer you ask, so we can say yes, or no, rather than assume and either miss out on a deduction you are entitled to, or claim something you cant.

02.01.2022 Please be careful everyone.
