24.01.2022 We've had a busy day today with our fifth session at Nelson Bay Baptist Church to start us off. We looked at the rest of Ephesians 5 and what it says about the expectations on Spirit-filled wives and husbands, Spirit-filled parents and children and Spirit-filled slaves and masters. Some healthy discussion ensued as we grappled with what was being said. After lunch a group walked and waded across Fingal Spit to the lighthouse (see picture). It was a 7km return journey and the walk along the beach was very relaxing. Then it was off to Sand Boarding at Stockton Beach which was a real hit with many a talented youth standing on their boards as they slid down the biggest dunes. The operator said he hadn't seen such a confident and competent group in ages. We're having dinner now and then we'll take in some lawn bowls at the local club.

18.01.2022 Today started with an early morning sea kayak on the pristine waters of Shoal Bay. Then we had our 4th Session from Ephesians 4 and 5 where we were challenged to live in line with our identity as dearly loved children of the father. That means putting off the things that belong with those who don't walk in relationship with Jesus and putting on the things that belong with those who walk in love. After lunch we went go-karting and had a brilliant time. Everyone improved quite a bit from their first ride to put in consistently good times on their second ride. Everyone's relaxing now before we head out to dinner at a local restaurant.

18.01.2022 Today featured the Marine Discovery Cruise to Cabbage Tree Island off the coast. We came across a large Wobbegong shark and a few Port Jackson sharks as well as some Blue Groper and many other fish. Some also got to hold a sea urchin. We had an early session before the cruise in which we looked at the spiritual battle described in Ephesians 6 and the way God provides us with the right battle gear as we live in a world that would seek to steer us away from our relationship with our Creator. Some are going up Mt Tomaree for the sunset tonight as we prepare to say goodbye to Nelson Bay in the morning.

18.01.2022 Thanks for joining in on our church streams this weekend. Are you hungry for more from God's word? Why not check out Andrew Barry's sermon extra on Daniel 8? It's a tricky and strange chapter but this is a very helpful 15 mins - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNhfOBhKEO4

17.01.2022 Today we had the whole morning with no plans. Some chose to stay up all night playing video games and sleep in until lunch, some spent the morning relaxing with a cup of tea and one of the leaders went into town and had their nails done. After lunch we explored Ephesians 3 and the mystery about the Messiah for which Paul was willing to suffer. In Christ, God was removing the barriers between the Jews and the Gentiles. Indeed, all barriers are removed in Him. Then it was off ...to quad biking at Stockton Beach. It was lots of fun with riders divided into groups according to confidence and ability. We had an extra long ride and only one incident with a bike turning over. Tonight the local cinema is closed and so we'll be having some home cinema gatherings in different apartments.

15.01.2022 In June this year we submitted a grant application through the Community Building Partnership program, for $15,000 towards the new accessible bathroom in the lobby, which is part of our Building for Ministry Project. Because of the overwhelming demand for funding in the Miranda Electorate, we've been asked to gather signatures on a petition, to show community support for our project. We encourage you to add your name to the petition here. The petition closes at 5pm on Friday 21st August. https://forms.gle/xPJw2mQCyQVwwm7X9

14.01.2022 Hello all! We look forward to gathering in homes, and some on site Sunday morning (check your email), and also individually this weekend to spend time hearing from God and responding to him with faith and repentance. Join us in an hour at Church Online at 5.30pm for the Saturday Church stream, or Sunday at 10am and 6pm - https://jannalianglican.online.church/

14.01.2022 This morning our year 12 students went camel riding at Stockton Beach. No incidents, but lots of fun. The Nelson Bay markets are growing in size each year and the range of stalls is less bric a brac and more boutique. In the first chapter of Ephesians we were challenged to rethink how we fit into God's plans rather than how he fits into ours. We have so many spiritual blessings in Christ and living to the praise of His glory comes from a knowledge of His calling, His inheritance, His power and strength. Fran has been preparing our food each day and the salads are next level with more than a few people finding their taste buds rejoicing at new experiences.

11.01.2022 XII Escape has begun. 28 of us arrived safely yesterday afternoon and enjoyed a relaxed start with swimming at Little Beach which you can see in this view from one of the apartments. Last night we read through the letter to the Ephesians in readiness for a closer study each day. Today's adventures include Camel Riding, Nelson Bay Markets, Ephesians 1 and perhaps a walk up Mt Tomaree for the sunset. We'll post updates each day.

03.01.2022 We've just had our second session in Ephesians. Today was chapter 2 where we were reminded of the grace of God that saves us and makes us alive even when we were dead in our sins. Some excellent discussion followed around the struggle we sometimes face in seeing our sin and the need for the gospel. Earlier today we went to the Irukandji Shark & Ray Centre which has undergone a major relocation and is now an outdoor centre. The "affection" displayed by the rays and sharks was a little unsettling for some, but most warmed to the experience by the end. We are hoping to do some lawn bowls this evening, weather permitting.

03.01.2022 God willing, the builders are starting work on our building renovations next Wednesday the 15th of July. It's all happening! Two enormous shipping containers are now waiting at our church. So this Saturday the 11th, starting at 8:30am we will be emptying everything from the church into those containers. The kitchen and sound gear has already been packed down, but we need to move everything else. If you are around, if you are fit and able, and if you are willing, please join ...us in moving everything else into the shipping containers. Mel has done lots of preparation work into this and there will be clear guidance about where everything goes. If you are available to help, please contact Mel via e-mail [email protected], or phone 9528 9130. We also require some moving trolleys for use on the day. If you have one we could borrow, please also let Mel know.
