24.01.2022 This posture is a lot more common than what you think! Todays post we will be introducing you guys to the concept of posture and what it means. Posture is a term used to describe a position of body parts relative to another. ... When we talk about posture - we often refer to the terms tilt, bend, rotate and shift. These terms describe the position of one bony prominence relative to another (EG/ the position of our pelvis relative to our lumbar spine) Example: - We may tilt our heads - We may shift our pelvis - We may rotate our thigh (femur) bone - We may bend our lumbar spine But... what soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) could be responsible for these positions? Are these soft tissues tight, short, fixed, long, weak? How would you fix that? Would you strengthen, mobilise, stretch or learn to control? To find out more or have your posture analysed, come visit the team at Jannali Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic! 95894014

23.01.2022 http://www.jannaliphysio.com.au/runinj.html There are 2 types of achilles tendinopathy - Midportion/middle of tendon (55-66% of cases)... - Insertional/near the heel. This form often has to be managed slightly differently due to the compressive factor the tendon has on the heel. This form may also cause bursitis of the retrocalcaneal bursa (i.e inflammation of a fluid filled sac that sits between your tendon and your heel bone due to the compression) Knowing what area of the Achilles tendon is injured often influences treatment pathway/management Make sure you see you a physio to allow proper diagnosis and determine the best treatment pathway To read more about Achilles tendinopathy and running click on the link below

22.01.2022 Phase 1 complete of Reno works. New floor plan ..Big changes to come.

19.01.2022 Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is the most common type of arthritis and a major cause of pain Muscle weakness is associated with pain dysfunction. Muscle strengthening is a key component in managing cases of OA Exercise is therefore the BEST non surgical treatment for mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee. Specifically aerobic and strengthening exercises... The table above explains this in a little more detail 1 You can see that exercise has the largest improv...ement in pain and function compared to non steroid anti inflammatories, weight loss, education and paracetamol. 2 Besides the fact that non steroid anti inflammatories show a small improvement in pain and function, this was accompanied by many serious adverse effects. If you need help/guidance about creating an individual exercise regime catered specifically to you, come into Jannali Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic and speak to one of our physiotherapists #jannaliphysiotherapy #physiotherapy #knee #kneeOA #osteoarthritis

18.01.2022 Did you know that at Jannali Physiotherapy we supply and fit orthotics _____________________________________________________ LEFT PHOTO: before orthotics RIGHT PHOTO: after orthotics ... ______________________________________________________ Orthotics are inserts that fit inside the shoe. They are designed to decrease abnormal motion of the foot, while allowing for normal movement. Orthotics realign your feet and allow you to adopt better foot mechanics. This can take pressure off the structures that normally do this for you - giving you time to build your function and strength in a pain free or pain reduced capacity. Some mechanical problems are obvious including excessive pronation and knocked knees. Others are not so noticeable. At Jannali Physiotherapy we will assess your biomechanics and determine whether orthotics is an option for you. If it is we can supply and fit orthotics on the spot! We also set you up with a personalised exercise program to help manage your issue long term To book an appointment please call Jannali Physiotherapy on 95894014 #physio #physiotherapy #jannaliphysio #orthotics

12.01.2022 Imaging findings of spine degeneration are present in high proportions of asymptomatic individuals, increasing with age. Many imaging-based degenerative features are likely part of normal aging and unassociated with pain. Given the large number of adults who undergo imaging to help determine the cause of their pain, it is important to know the prevalence of imaging findings of degenerative disease in asymptomatic populations. Such information will help both physios and pati...ents interpret the importance of degenerative findings noted in radiology reports. Talk to one of our physiotherapists here at Jannali Physiotherapy and sports injury clinic before you blow your next pay on what may be an unnecessary scan or even worse an unnecessary surgery

07.01.2022 Working on my daughters painful right knee. Day1. She is a rep soccer player and trains, plays and runs a lot. The video shows her knees cross the midline during the knee lift and load phases of running. This altered biomechanics is cause knee cap symptoms. Time to work on pelvic, hip and knee control in small pieces and put it back together with running.

07.01.2022 To cool or not to cool down It is widely believed that an active cool down (E/G - jogging, cycling, swimming) aids recovery and enhances subsequent performance compared to a passive cool down (I.e - no cool down) Contrary to popular belief the table above shows that an active cool down doesnt appear to facilitate recovery, enhance sports performance, or prevent injuries compared to a passive cool down. ... However If a person believes that an active cool down helps them, then whats the harm? Just keep these things in mind..... If using an active cool down, it should not 1Cause additional fatigue or soreness 2Interfere with glycogen re-synthesis (rate of glucose replenishment following exercise)3 Be viewed as extra work

07.01.2022 Meet our wonderful team of Physios! - Emily, Darren and Lucas.

06.01.2022 Todays post is all about working through your bodys resistance. Continuing on from our previous foam rolling post..... We have put together ~1 minute video on full body foam rolling. C.G Jung - What you resist, persists GRAB A ROLLER!

05.01.2022 If you constantly ask your physio - How long will I be in pain for? - How long will my injury take to heal? - How long until I can return to sport? ... THEN READ THIS POST GUYS The bodys response to damage is variable, it depends on the extent of damage, the type of tissue, tissue history (prior injuries), your age, your health and many more variables you cannot control! We can not give you a definite timeframe on how long it will take your injury to heal However We can ESTIMATE timeframes based on your presentation and history (as mentioned above) and help you manage and control the pain and dysfunction you are experiencing. You can optimise the way your body will repair itself by avoiding factors that slow the healing process. For more information book a consult at Jannali Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic 95894014

03.01.2022 Do you get tendon pain when exercising? Do you know where your load tolerance lies? (Aka your sweet spot). We normally talk about load tolerance in regards to duration, frequency and intensity. We had a 40 year old client that was an avid marathon runner and came into the practice with Achilles tendon pain when running. ... There were 3 questions I asked him and his answers determined exercise prescription, load and ultimately his prognosis. 1How often do you run - think about recovery 2 How far can you run before symptom onset 3What are your goals? Our client was running 6-7x a week (no recovery days) currently running ~11km, pain onset was ~8km and his goal was to run a half marathon in 3 months time. Its important to work with your client to find their load tolerance aka sweet spot; its not optimal to completely stop exercise - which leads to de-conditioning, or exercise too much, which can cause tissue overload. The aim of rehab is to bridge this gap. Although this is an important concept to understand with rehabilitation, it is not the Only aspect to consider For more info, book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists at Jannali Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. 95894014
