22.01.2022 Katori shinto ryu is an old Japanese martial art using classical weapons. What kind of weapons? The classical weapons that we use in Katori shinto ryu are: Bokken (wooden sword) () For Kenjutsu, Bojutsu, Naginatajutsu. Katori shinto ryu uses a straight bokken without Tsuba (hand guard). The length is 3shaku-2sun(97cm).... Bo (wooden pole) () Long stick for Bojutsu. The length is 6 shake(1.82m). Using both ends to hit and block. Naginata (wooden halberd) () Long weapon with blade for Naginatajutsu, using both ends to cut, hit or block. The lengths are 8shaku-3sun (2.51m) and 7shaku-5sun (2.27m). . Kotachi (wooden short sword) () The length is 1shaku-8sun(55cm). This weapon is used with one hand. It can also be used alongside the bokken, one sword in each hand. Yari (wooden spear) () The length is 1jo-5sun (3.15m) for Sojutsu. The actions of the spear are mostly thrusting and blocking. Iaito () Japanese sword for Iaijutsu which is solo sword drawing and cutting practice. Shuriken are metal throwing spikes which resemble a long, headless nail. Please come to our Hamilton Hill dojo if you are interested in Japanese martial arts.
