FULL STORY BELOW.......................... This Wednesday 29 July at Glen Aplin community hall will be the final workshop for local artisans to get ready for their Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail application. Artisan workshops are being held at local small halls and have been fully booked thus far. Event founder Rosy Chapman reports strong interest from new and returning artisans, who have attended workshops over the last few weeks at The Summit, Ballandean and Dalveen. Our local artisans have experienced first-hand what the arts trail is doing for the Granite Belts economy and bringing our community together. Its been great to support them with these workshops. GBART is providing each artisan with a free photo shoot with their artwork, to help them promote themselves in the lead-up to the event and for GBART to promote the artisans to the broader community and our weekend drive market. GBART volunteers are educating artisans on how to host a COVID-sensitive art experience, how to tweak their online presence and what we are doing to promote the event and our region. I am thrilled by the diversity of artisans and performers that have attended our workshops. From a kabuki dance troupe to our 20-strong ukulele group The Graniteers, the entertainment at our small halls is shaping up to be lively! We have a glass and perfume maker, watercolourists, precious metal jeweller, ceramicist, and many more. Carnkd Socks produces the most incredible and quirky work on a 100-year-old circular knitting machine. Amiens History Association will be hosting a range of experiential activities for kids and the grown-ups: panning for tin, the 1920s resplendent replica Railway Carriage "fit for a king" and much more. Last year, over 27 venues hosting over 50 artisans participated, with an average of 60 visitors per venue, some local, many from outside of the region. Applications to be on the trail close 31 July. Your passport to creativity is here on the Granite Belt! discover a variety of local artists at GBART 2020 as they take up residence in community spaces. Inspired by the Small Halls Festival, weve also invited our beautiful small local community halls to join in the fun. This year marks the second inauguration of the arts festival which will provide a fully immersive experience of the rich tapestry of culture, talent, history and artefacts in the region. There will be a three-day, COVID-sensitive event opening at 10am on Friday 30 October and closing on Sunday 1 November at 4pm Organiser Rosy Chapman was inspired by the Silo Art Trail, which resulted in international media The Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail Open Studios Event follows a trail map to discover a variety of local artists, as they exhibit at studios and galleries as well as taking up residence in community spaces. For all media enquiries please contact: Brooke Billett, 0422 332 985 [email protected] Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail When: Friday 30 October 2020 to Sunday 1 November Where: Stanthorpe and surrounding Granite Belt villages Time: Open 10am-4pm and by appointment Contact: [email protected] or phone 0417 727 997 (Rosy Chapman) gbart.org.au
