Babe, you CAN workout from home & get results Though I LOVE the gym environment, it's important to realise that not everyone does. For those of you wanting to start achieving some body composition or fitness goals at home, some tips are: Start where you are, with a few basic things (a suspension system, bands and a couple of DB sets is more than adequate) & add to it gradually over time. Set up your workout space somewhere that won't have constant distractions (if possible) Have a training schedule. Decide how many sessions you can commit to & block this time out every week. 23.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (10 months between pics coached by @fitriss82 ) If you ask most people, "why do you want to lose weight?" The answers are usually something like: "so I can be happier, so I'll like myself, so I'll have more self-confidence".... The thing is.. Losing weight won't make you a happier person. An insecure person who self-loathes is going to be insecure & self-loathing no matter what they look like on the outside. I've seen female clients who are a perfectly healthy body fat on the verge of absolute tears, because they hate themselves. I've also seen fitness/bikini girls crying because when they look in the mirror, all they can see are imperfections. Constant comparisons to others. Constantly trying to live up to a level of perfection that doesn't exist. It's an ILLUSION Y'ALL. That illusion of perfect is going to have you chasing ghosts. You'll be miserable no matter what number the scales tell you. It will NEVER be enough. It's crazy right? The problem here is, we're trying to find contentment & happiness in EXTERNAL environments. In OTHER people. In that "like button". In the " emoji". In that " emoji". We are basing our self-worth on our perception of how we think others see us. It's no wonder everyone is riddled with anxiety, body image & self-esteem issues I've been happy carrying a little extra cushion & I've been happy lean- when my WHY comes from an internal driving force. MY goals. MY wants. Things that make ME happy, regardless of the opinions of others. Our coaching methods heavily focus on helping our clients find that internal drive, that thing that actually makes them feel happy. Creating change from a place of self-love and NOT self-loathing. 22.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (Just under 4 months between pics, coached by IMF Coach @fitriss82 ) Keep showing up. On the good days, on the days you feel motivated, on the days you want to give up- and on the days you think nothing is happening. Just keep showing up.... However you have envisioned fat loss to look, it's probably NOT quite accurate. Here are some truths about fat loss: Sustainable fat loss happens SLOWLY over a longer period of time. It going to come off that area you want it to the most- last my friend. Following on from that- you cannot spot reduce body fat. Not everyone is a candidate for fat loss as a first port of call. Sometimes there needs to be a period beforehand spent building up intake, to get a person in a better position for effective fat loss. Fat loss and scale weight do not always correlate, especially in clients who are not obese and are strength training. You do not need to cut out carbohydrates or sugar (which is also a carbohydrate by the way) to lose body fat. You shouldn't always be in an energy deficit & chasing fat loss (either physically or as a mindset). It's important to break up fat loss with periods of maintenance or even a surplus. Have other goals. Facts are, strength training is something that can be made age-appropriate for ANY age & any level. It''s about encouraging movement, building stronger bodies, bones, improving posture & self-confidence. Teens are an age-group that are at MOST risk of developing disordered food behaviours and body image issues. Rather than shielding our teens from understanding nutrition- this includes calories and macronutrients- I am a believer in EMPOWERING them with life skills & knowledge that will set them up for future success. We don't focus on scale weight as a progress indicator here, but we also educate all our clients on what that particular piece of data means & the variables that can cause it to change. 15.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (4 months between pics) Not everyone has the aspirations to be a bodybuilder.... I think that's great. How boring would life be, if we were all to be the same? Something important that we prioritize here at IMF, is that every one of our clients has unique and different goals. A good coach is one that is client-focused, and can offer objective guidance in accordance to how best to achieve what it is the CLIENT wants out of the process. What this can require, is the ability to separate personal experiences & biases from the evidence-based strategies that will best enable them to coach each client. It also requires the ability to really LISTEN (you'd be surprised how many coaches don't!). Strong communication is an essential skill for a coach, and listening well is a big part of that. This client is a runner! She loves it, and has specific running goals she wants to achieve. Whilst we've implemented a strength training program to enhance & compliment her running, as well as her body composition goals- it isn't THE focus. I'm sharing this, because a lot of females aspire to achieve a certain type of physique (firmer, more defined, more shape), but they're often putting all their focus on the wrong indicator of progress. SCALE WEIGHT. It's a great tool to use, IF you know how to interpret the data properly & objectively. NEVER in isolation, unless weight loss is literally all you care about, regardless of the visual progress (as you can see here). Under the guidance of IMF Coach @fitriss82 we've had a gradual average intake increase for this babe of over 300 calories between pics & a recent focus on bringing up her lower body via a 6 week lower body training block and no set cardio. Current stats: Weight: 50kg Intake: 42.2 calories per kilogram of bodyweight Strength training: 6 times a week (45min sessions) Steps: Average 17k steps a day @richard_physiquecode decided to jack my carbs up & my body has been like "boom. 12.01.2022 10 YEARS PROGRESS SAME weight, DIFFERENT body composition. Is one better than the other? Not necessarily, but each physique is a reflection of my actions, values & lifestyle. ... On the left I was a chronic dieter/binge eater, an alcoholic, did not train & sought my validation from others. On the right, I am eating above 1800 calories even in peak week, drink 2 or 3 on the occasion, train consistently with progressive overload & recovery, and I'm working on the validation part- I'd be lying if I was completely detached from what others think of me. 07.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (Just under 20 months between pics) Playing the LONG GAME.... The trouble with wanting to get somewhere as fast as you can, is that you often have to sacrifice A LOT of things that make the journey better- sustainable, safer, more comfortable & more effective- along the way. Even more so if you're not in a great position to make the journey directly to your desired goal to begin with (e.g. long history of crash dieting, poor relationship with food). All in the name of shortcuts. It's a bit like driving a car from one place to one tens of thousands of kilometres away. A car that's never serviced, has worn tyres & 1/4 of a tank of gas, might get you to the first stop- but then what? It's likely you'll end up spending more money, time & effort to constantly change tyres, paying for repairs & refilling the tank. And all that- plus you still might not ever get to your destination. A car that's looked after to begin with, safety checked with a full tank of gas- is going to get you a lot further, more safely, more comfortably & probably require a lot less money on repairs/servicing along the way, because of the INITIAL INVESTMENT to begin with. Sure that takes time- but taking a longer time to get to your destination is better than staying where you are doing wheelies around that same roundabout crying about not getting anywhere! Are you taking shortcuts to get somewhere sooner, only to end up a few kilometres up the road from where you started years ago? Isn't it time to invest in yourself enough to ensure you're setting yourself up for a better journey to where you want to go? 06.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (14 weeks between pics) When it comes to ensuring you are making progress, no matter what the goal is, it's important to make sure appropriate variables are being measured over consistent intervals. ... How regularly you re-test these variables will be determined by the kind of goal, the client's psyche & the rate of progress desired for an optimal outcome. I can assure you, that without consistent testing of measurable variables, many clients do not even see the progress they are making until we show them! Why is this the case? Well, we are always the worst judges of our own progress, because we are rarely objective in the manner that we critique ourselves. 05.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (Almost a year & 9 months between far left and far right pics) A special client progress update ... When Lis came to us in November 2018 (far left) & achieved her goal of fat loss- bringing her leanest & sharpest physique to date (centre) earlier this year for a photoshoot. Between that time & now- life has changed a little & so has the goal- Lis is expecting another bundle of joy! Because of Lisa's long history of strength training prior to pregnancy, she can safely continue to strength train throughout her pregnancy, with adjustments implemented as needed for safety & comfort. Strength training whilst pregnant is a great way to stay healthy & improve recovery post-baby too (Please check with your health professional before undertaking any exercise when pregnant). We have also shifted from tracking food for fat loss goals, to using food skills to eat intuitively whilst pregnant. Excuse the underboob This was a photo I sent to @richard_physiquecode while playing with shapes in the mirror this week, but I decided I liked how you could see the details coming through my midsection. So, 9 kilograms down Started at 34.5 calories per kilogram Currently at 37.6 calories per kilogram Fat loss time-line looked like this March to September: low/2 high intake days Varying steps (average of 18k a day) 4 to 6 strength sessions a week September to October: Diet break calories (no lower or higher days, protein & fats adjusted down & carbs jacked up to 270g a day) Average steps ~16k a day 6 Strength sessions a week (I felt AMAZINGGGG here) October to present: Poverty intake (wahhhh 37.6 calories per kilogram, it's hard y'all ) 20k steps a day 5 strength sessions a week Just a couple of weeks to go, which means I'll be reverse dieting in time for some festive feasting #onlinecoaching #onlinecoach #results #resultsbased #perthfitness #fitness #icnprofitnessmodel #icnwa #icnpro #theironmaiden #ironmaidenstrong

01.01.2022 COMPETITION COACHING CLIENT (6 weeks into her first building phase with me) Our goals here are for season B 2021, so when @_juzfit_ came to me, willing to put in the work beforehand, I was keen to optimise this time to build on her existing muscle & also push her calories up (currently at 35.9 calories per kilogram of bodyweight).... From left to right, our average scale weight is 2kg up, but as you can see- recomp is a beautiful thang. While Justine is UP on the scales, she appears leaner (fat mass , muscle mass ). Moral? Gals- don't be scared to BUILD!!!!! 01.01.2022 LIFESTYLE CLIENT PROGRESS (Just under 10 months between pics) Are you coachable?... Like some people aren't ready for a relationship, some are not ready to be coached. Here are some signs you're not (yet): You go through coaches like a f@#k boy goes through tinder dates (hint: at some point, the problem is you, not them!) You want someone to help you, but only if that's assuring you that you are right all the time (well of course, that makes perfect sense...if you're 2 ) You aren't willing to put equal effort into the process (wtf. Effort??? Yup- coaching isn't a luxury cruise ship, it's a 2-man kayak- so you better pick up your oar & ROW son!!!) You lack basic communication skills (e.g. responding to weekly check ins, not speaking up when you're unhappy about something, flagging relevant issues before or as they escalate etc.) Here are some ways you can become more coachable: Go through a period of self-coaching beforehand- someone who is willing to put effort in to do ALL the work THEMSELVES, is going to be more receptive when they get help & collaborate with a coach. We also encourage a RETURN to self-coaching for many of our lifestyle clients afterwards (we're about autonomy, NOT dependence) Work on how to take constructive criticism and use it to improve (crucial!!!) Work on establishing good communication skills. Our most successful clients are the ones who communicate well There are some BAD coaches out there- true. But there's actually a lot of great coaches too! Ones I'll refer people to if I feel they're a better fit.
