The UQ Pro Bono Centre is seeking 2 - 4 law students for a new human rights research project which has popped up! Those who have undertaken Human Rights Law (LAWS5124) are especially encouraged to apply. THE PROJECT:... Formed in 2010, the Queensland Rohingya Community Inc. (QRC) is a self-funded, volunteer association committed to promoting the welfare of the Rohingya community. QRC, through its President Mr Noor Zaman, has requested the assistance of small team (between two and four law students) to develop an overview issues paper on human rights issues faced by the Rohingya people. Centre Director Monica Taylor will supervise this pro bono task, together with academic oversight from Dr Simon McKenzie. This is a medium-term, flexible role where the successful students will work independently at home and/or in the Law Library. Students will commence this project immediately after selection and will deliver a final draft to QRC in early October, after the mid-semester break. The successful students will have: Excellent legal research skills; The ability to communicate legal rights and concepts in plain English; The ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously on this task; and A genuine interest in the protection of human rights, particularly in relation to marginalised groups.
