25.01.2022 Moving Browns cows took on new meaning after moving these weaners today. Every opportunity to get distracted was taken. They taste tested everything they could on the way. Even though the move took a bit longer than expected it was relaxing and filled with interesting observations of these animals.

25.01.2022 Our granddaughters favorite cow Javid Fiona M35. there is nothing that could be more placid than this girl. She loves her food and a good scratch particularly when they come together.

24.01.2022 The Weaners are enjoying all the benefits. Today they moved to a fresh paddock with plenty of feed. With the sun shining what more could they want.

24.01.2022 Our weaners continue to develop. Through rain and some grisly winter conditions they have always had their head down eating and being curious of what is going on around them.

24.01.2022 Activity started last night with our last heifer calving followed by a new calf this morning that was due about 2 weeks ago, (you can't rush nature). The pleasant conditions this morning encouraged the cows and calves around the water trough while the two cows left to calve kept each other company. Conditions deteriorated dramatically this afternoon we had horrific wind, rain, ice and ultimately snow.

23.01.2022 Our weaners have just started n a new paddock. They are so used to me arriving morning and afternoon they meet me at the gate and follow me as I open up a fresh section of the paddock.

23.01.2022 Our steer prepared by StJohns college Dubbo was placed second in his class at Sydney Royal and went to auction where he brought $8.20 a kilo A great result. Thanks Ben and all the team

23.01.2022 Our heifer and steer that will soon be leaving for St Johns. They are will be prepared for this years Queensland Ekka.

22.01.2022 Walking around these young cattle each day is such a pleasure. Each one has their own character. Curiosity is a common trait.

22.01.2022 Weaners and cows back together for a few days. All with their heads down, its so nice to see.

21.01.2022 The last calf born for this season. A bull calf to Lizzy N3 by Javid Notorious. He has a lot to like about him. His development will be watched with interest.

21.01.2022 This week we have spent time with our consultant examining our soils and agreeing a path to set a program in place to improve them along with our pastures. It does not take much to realize the entire operation of the farm is dependent on the quality of our soil

21.01.2022 A very good looking steer, a big rear end, butterflied back line and 390 kgs at just over 10 months. He is as placid as they come no wonder he puts the weight on.

20.01.2022 When you are strip feeding it does not take long for the the herd to know what your presence in the paddock means. Our appearance gets everyones attention.

20.01.2022 Our cattle, and the country have not looked better for a good few years.

19.01.2022 Our first consignment of steers went off to one of our clients today. Among them was Q25, just 12 months of age with a weight of 470kgs and 100% grass fed. A great result. The other 3 in the group, also just a year old, were 450, 440 and 430kgs.

18.01.2022 The weaners were rotated to a new paddock and the Cows were joined with the bull for next Autumns calving. Although there still seems to be plenty of grass in the paddock we have learned our lessons on the problems of overgrazing. With the recovery time planned for this paddock we should see good recovery of the pasture. The more we learn about regenerative agriculture and managed grazing the more we can see the opportunities to improve our operations.

17.01.2022 Our autumn calves are really putting a spurt on. Between the start of a good season - fresh green pastures and good nursing by their mothers the calves are making the most of every advantage.

17.01.2022 Not even a person with a camera can distract this group from eating. Such is the temperament of the greys.

17.01.2022 These cows and calves a making the most of a bit of late afternoon sun after a day of mainly cloud and drizzle.

16.01.2022 These calves are growing so quickly. Happy to be off by themselves and are inquisitive about everything around them.

15.01.2022 Calving time is a wonderful time of year. It makes you aware of the simple things in life and the beauty of nature. Who needs anything more?

14.01.2022 Using the strip feeding technique to achieve intensive grazing provides a few good lessons. When part of the forage is nearing maturity you get a lot more trampled crop than in a forage that is young and succulent. We now understand how you can achieve a 50% residue to go into the ground to improve the carbon content and to build soil.

14.01.2022 This calf is one of the results of an AI breeding program undertaken with St Johns College. The care relation ship between dam and calf is a 2 way affair with this couple.

14.01.2022 Our 11 and 12 month steers and heifers were weighed Sunday to check their progress 380 to 430 Kgs Some of the best weights we have achieved. A few of the younger animals achieved weights above 400 Kgs. These animals are 100% grass fed (no supplements)

13.01.2022 The showing part of the steer competition at the Sydney Royal is over for another year. Some positive results have been achieved due to the great preparation and presentation that was put in by the St Johns cattle team. They are an impressive group of young dedicated people that we are fortunate to be associated with. The school must be very happy to have such a cohort representing it in such a public forum. hopefully we will be back again next year. Thanks to all those that helped with our 2021 achievements

13.01.2022 Our cows and spring calves have moved to a fresh paddock which is on its third grazing. They get a new strip morning and afternoon. The cows are certainly on a rising plain or nutrition ready for joining in a few weeks

12.01.2022 They talk of taking coal to Newcastle well Javid are taking steers to Woolaringa. This is a quirky event given that a significant number of Javid's foundation ...herd came from Woolaringa. A sample of the meat from the first delivery- rump, cattleman's cutlets and T bone are from 100% grass fed yearlings. Mick, Wil and Fiona, have given their seal of approval to the meat and its quality which is very satisfying given the high standards they hold for the products they sell to their clients. Woolaringa Meats is located at 112 Kinghorne Street, Goulburn. They guarantee their meat to be free of Preservatives, Hormones & Growth Promotants (HGPs). CONTACT Mick on 02 4821 4632

12.01.2022 Javid yearlings have been sold. The best of our heifers are going to a new Australain Grey breeder in the region. and our steers are going to a long term client. It has been a good season all round since the rain began.

10.01.2022 Was a bit late in getting to the cattle this morning. They were all waiting for me to move the fence so they could get into the next strip of pasture

10.01.2022 Checking the weaners just after lunch, most of them were found settled on top of the hill. My arrival sparked considerable interest and a great deal of curiosity. You could be forgiven for thinking they were giving me the once over inspection.

09.01.2022 Our bull Moby controls most things in his mob but when it comes to grazing he is happy to follow the cows. Does that suggest he is lazy or do the girls know where the sweeter grass is?

09.01.2022 While the cattle graze we add another piece of infrastructure. This trough is made from re-purposed items except the float valve. The bath tub a $20 purchase from the waste shop the steel frame made up from leftover steel. Total cost not more than $50, a lot better than $600 for a bought one.... Only a few more to go to have all paddocks with trough water.

08.01.2022 This morning was one of the chilliest morning we have had this winter. It did not affect the appetite.

08.01.2022 Our calving cows get a tight ration of fresh green pasture as they come into calving. Heifers are help separately with an even more controlled diet

07.01.2022 This fellow seems to be waiting for me each morning and afternoon. I think he has discovered my weakness.

07.01.2022 An electric fence along the creek bank protects the creek while the cows and calves clean up the out of control grass. After full bellies, a rest in the shade of the trees was in order. There is plenty of work to do to make a dint in this seasons grass.

07.01.2022 They know when you have moved the fence and the new pasture is on offer.

07.01.2022 After a good feed a rest is in order. With plenty of grass in the paddocks this year there is no reason for any of our cattle to go hungry and from what we can see none of them are missing out. Cows are in great condition leading into joining and the calves are growing at an unbeleavible rate.

06.01.2022 M10 Flower with calf just after birth and then 15 hours later. How quickly the young calves develop and adapt.

06.01.2022 Our weaners have really taken to their independence. All are doing well and are enjoying the fresh paddocks that they get first choice over.

06.01.2022 Our Javid breeders are in great condition and enjoying some much needed recuperation before calving in September.

06.01.2022 Having got to the new paddock the weaners are on a strip feeding program with a fresh strip early morning and late afternoon.

06.01.2022 A very frosty morning at Javid this morning, the pastures where white. The weaners were keen to get the fence moved for access to fresh grass. The calving cows were in he same frame of mind while the new calves were keen to test their athletic skills and race around the paddock

06.01.2022 All the cows and Spring calves are in a new paddock which is being strip grazed to optimize the potential of the paddock. The mix of forage is appreciated but it seems the sudan grass is a favorite with all of them. They are all in great condition and the calves seem to be growing like a house on fire.

05.01.2022 Happy and contented cows - always a good sight to see, particularly on a spectacular sunny day like this, in the middle of winter. Hope its not an omen for summer!

05.01.2022 Must have been grooming time for the calves at the time we checked on them today. Seems like most of them were up for a good clean.

05.01.2022 The cows and calves were moved to this new paddock this morning. You could think that they had not see food like this before. There was not a single head lifted from the pasture.

05.01.2022 When the few steers we have left are not eating they are looking over the fence with fascination at the young calves. The herd instinct remains very strong

05.01.2022 Javid Patricia S3 born today was determined to get that first drink but soon after was looking for a spot to lay down beside the fence. Dam, Javid Patricia L31 is about 2 weeks early in giving birth. A regular thing with her. This is the third heifer and all have been sired by Javid Moby.

04.01.2022 these heifers are due to calve in the next couple of weeks. They are so quiet and have no hesitation in coming up to you. We are anxious to get through the calving without a hitch.

04.01.2022 These eight yearling heifers are heading off next week to a new Australian Grey breeder. They are a quality group that have developed exceptionally well. They have a great temperament and should provide a good foundation for our new breeder to build on. They will be joined by two cows with calves at foot.

03.01.2022 Our breeding program is making progress We are very happy with the depth of body we are getting in our females. They are all good doers and put a lot of care into their calves. Breeding is such an enjoyable journey.

02.01.2022 Our cows and calves are in great condition. The growth rate in the calves is fantastic, they seem to be moving forward so quickly. We hope the conditions can prevail for a good few years to come.

02.01.2022 This cow is the daughter of a two time supreme champion female. She is almost a clone of her mother. Her heifer calf (her first calf) looks terrific. We have retained several cows from this line. The dam of our Javid Fionas was purchased as a foundation animal in our herd from Woolaringa. A great investment.

02.01.2022 Life as a stud sire or a calf is pretty good.

01.01.2022 The rain stopped over night. We have had about 30 mm of slow soaking drizzle over the last 3 days. Great for pastures. the thing i noticed on this mornings walk was the bird hotel that was at full occupancy. This old dead tree is full of hollows and all of them have a resident couple and I think they may be a waiting list. Its so nice to see all the bird life and it demonstrates why not to be tempted to remove all your dead trees.
