20.01.2022 It's been an incredible nautical week for me, one way and another, which has rekindled the passion I have for 'Life on the Ocean Maine'. All my novels abound wi...th ships, both under sail, or powered by steam. Here then is a snippet from Durra Durra, third in The Durra Durra Trilogy. It's summer 1842 and Luke Reddall is sailing to England on The Diamond, in his heart a feeling of trepidation as to what he might discover there. Chapter Six. "It is a thrilling spectacle when two ships pass each other on the high seas, as it is easy to forget the magnificent sight of a ship in full sail, when one is on one’s own vessel, and alone in a vast expanse of vacant ocean. Like The Diamond, Emma Eugenia was half way towards her port of destination, sailing from Woolwich on the 16th November, bound for Hobart Town, carrying one hundred and ninety one, female convicts. To Luke, standing with the Captain and Mr and Mrs Carpendale on the poop, she made a splendid picture, cutting a path through the sea, her bow spray shining white against the blue of the ocean, her sails stark against the cobalt sky.
