24.01.2022 Final images for uni folio Artist Statement: When a family member is suddenly torn away from your life it is a very sad and intense situation. You start to question every little thing you did and how you could have done it better. We know that eventually everyone dies. However, when it does happen unexpectedly, and to someone who was good to everyone, it breaks you and their loved ones internally. It makes it a lot harder when you don’t get to share a few final words befor...e they do pass. Growing up, I wondered what it would be like to have my nan around me who tragically passed away from cancer in 2013. Already feeling quite sad and depressed about her passing, I suddenly felt guilt, regret, anger and shame, due to never being able to say goodbye and I love you one last time. Reflecting and photographing the items from my most precious memories of our time together, has allowed me to open up my feelings and finally gain enough courage and closure to say goodbye. I have learnt that she never was or will be mad at me and her love transcends death. The valuable memories we hold, are used to remember and relive the important moments of our lost loved ones for the rest of our lives.
