Follow these electrical safety tips for Spring in order to stay safe while having fun! Spring is the perfect time to inspect all outdoor wiring and appliances around your home. If you have a pool, hot tub or other outdoor appliances, ensure that they are free of any loose electrical wires an...d cords. You are likely going to be spending more time in your pool or hot tub in the Spring and it is important to remember that water and electricity do not mix! As your electrical appliances were likely working overtime this Winter, it is a good idea to spend some time checking and cleaning these appliances to ensure that they are operating properly. Spend some time cleaning your stoves exhaust hood, dryer ducts and any appliances you used to heat your home during the Winter. If you have any damaged electrical equipment at your home, contact your local licensed electricians and have them repaired, especially if the equipment is going to be used to cool down your home as the weather warms up. 02.01.2022 The electrical system of a home is one of the most frequent points of entry of voltage from a lightning or surge event. When lightning strikes a nearby power line, it travels the path of least resistance from the power line to the meter and then into the homes electrical panel. If the electrical panel is equipped with a whole-house surge protection device, the surge will stop there. If not, it can travel over the surface of the wiring to the home, burning the insulation and fusing the wires together. It can also travel through the wiring to the outlets and damage electronics inside the home. Because the wiring is within the walls of the property, it can be difficult (and costly) to determine the extent of the damage. Here is what happened at a property in Strahan recently.
