24.01.2022 Ballarat Council failed us on recycling If elected I will advocate for opening a recycling facility in Ballarat, introduce a twice yearly on-demand hard rubbish service, support the hiring of more staff at the tip to reduce waiting times and introduce a tip store! We need to invest in projects that make a profit for the city and create local jobs while tackling waste and recycling. It's a win-win for Ballarat.... Read my thoughts on this topic in the link!

24.01.2022 Thanks, Van! I'll always stand up for working people and my community

23.01.2022 ELECTION UPDATE: USA election votes aren’t the only votes being counted right now! The remaining votes for Ballarat City Council are also being counted. Detailed update below for those interested. The remaining Central Ward votes are being counted right now. North Ward voted are being counted from 2:30pm. South Ward votes are being counted from 4:45pm. There are 2218 votes left to count for North Ward. Let’s hope they’re all for me ... Currently the results are too close to call for all the positions. Amy is the only one to have received quota (congratulations Amy). Preferences will be key for the final two positions for North Ward. These will be distributed by a computer at 9:15am on Friday so I’ll know the results then. They are officially declared at 11:15am. I’m still in the race, but I need preferences to go my way in order to win. So please cross your fingers for me! I’ve done really well, but it might be a struggle to win unless I get a big chunk of preferences from the lower polling candidates. PS. Go Biden!

22.01.2022 I spoke with Ruby from the Ballarat Times about my key priorities if I’m elected to Ballarat City Council I talk about the need to protect local jobs, and how we can invest in local people and infrastructure I Ballarat but we need councillors who will work together to ensure that the community gets the services and infrastructure that we need no matter where we live ... You can read the article in the link below.

22.01.2022 Ballarat Council has purchased land for new community facilities in Miners Rest! This important project has the potential to create more local jobs, bridge the north and south sides of Miners Rest, and bring much needed community infrastructure like sporting facilities and flood mitigation. But it needs to be done properly, with the community driving it. If elected to Council I will make sure the community is listened to about what they need and ensure that local job...s, businesses, and workers deliver the project. I’m committed to delivering the Miners Rest Township Plan alongside the community. I’ll always be a councillor that listens to the community and works alongside them for results. I’m hosting an online community forum for Miners Rest residents soon. Details will pop into your letterbox over the next few days so keep an eye out for it. If you can't make it send me an email or give me a call! VOTE 1 Jay Morrison for Ballarat Council North Ward

20.01.2022 I saw the boys at Musket & Bayonet today for a long overdue haircut #freshcuts My Australian Unions 'Join Your Union' mask started a great convo. Mark cut my hair while we talked about the importance of unions, protecting workers, and growing jobs in Ballarat I, of course, slipped in that I was running for council and talked about how we need a jobs plan - including a plan to tackle youth unemployment post-COVID ... We have multiple universities in #Ballarat plus TAFE and a tech college. We should be working together to get students job opportunities here. No-one should have to leave Ballarat to get a job! I'm committed to local jobs and investing locally. I hope you are too! VOTE 1 Jay Morrison Ballarat City Council North Ward

20.01.2022 How was your Saturday? I went to the Ballarat Farmers Market this morning and then went and letterboxed 800 flyers! Busy day! Got both rained on and a little sunburnt when letterboxing but at least I wasn’t snowed on!

20.01.2022 As a union organiser, I’m passionate about supporting workers by protecting and growing local jobs. If elected, I'll invest in projects that create and expand job opportunities here in Ballarat. I’ll always put our community first. Read more about my jobs plan in this link or contact me on 0480 283 786 or at [email protected]

20.01.2022 That feeling when the VEC staff say you're not on the electoral roll and can't stand for election But, don't worry it turns out there was a glitch and I am 100% eligible. Phew! Very happy to officially be a candidate for North Ward - bring on the election! ... Ballots arrive in the post early October. VOTE 1 Jay Morrison for Ballarat North Ward.

19.01.2022 My first volunteer role was with community radio. I had my first presenting role when I was 9. Yes, 9 years old! I then spent 9 years volunteering - presenting, fundraising, and even sitting on the board as a teen. I credit my time there as the reason why I still volunteer with multiple community groups to this day. Community Radio is a wonderful asset to Ballarat. But it's in trouble financially and has until the end of November to be saved. Let's get behind Voice FM, a loca...l institution, and save it from going under. If your business can sponsor them, please do so. Or if you'd like to donate as an individual you can do so at this link: https://voicefm.com.au/get-involved/donate #ballarat #communityradio #supportballarat #voiceFM

19.01.2022 Overseas junkets need to go. Shauna from Wendouree told me today that her elderly neighbour with dementia can't walk on the footpaths on their street as they're so bad. I don't think Councillor's overseas junkets are going to help I'm glad a current North Ward councillor is publicly supporting my view on overseas junkets now - after they've been caught out by The Courier today for racking up almost $30,000 of individual expenses though I'm actually genuine on this issue.... Below is what I wrote on the issue 6 weeks ago. I encourage you to read it Essentially, I reckon there's no need for Councillors to travel overseas, and if they'd like to do that as part of their role then they can pay for it themselves. What do you think?

18.01.2022 I have a plan for more jobs - check it out at www.jaymorrison.com.au/jobsplan VOTE 1 JAY FOR JOBS for Ballarat Council North Ward! I’ll always stand up for working people

18.01.2022 Thanks Hockey Ballarat for hosting me on Friday. Community sport is so important for the well-being of the community - both physically and mentally. I learnt that hockey in Ballarat truly is an all-age sport and has a 50/50 gender split! ... But Hockey Ballarat is bursting at the seams and can’t even host a social competition at the moment - they need more pitches. Another pitch would also allow them to bid for large competitions and bring thousands of visitors to town. If elected I’d love to work with them and be an advocate for another pitch and better facilities. Thanks Tony, Jenny and Tammy for being such great hosts on Friday. You have such passion for the community and hockey and it really showed. Despite not having played hockey since Year 12, I had a hit. But I think I’ll stick to playing netball... unless you do get that social competition off the ground and there’s a beginners C grade comp At least I used the right side of the stick though - not every candidate got that right!

18.01.2022 This is really sad to see in our backyard. We need local, state and federal government support for social housing. You can read my thoughts, and personal experience, on this issue here: http://bit.ly/jayhousing ABC news also highlighted this issue this morning. Building social housing needs to be a priority. It tackles homelessness and helps tackle our employment crisis. Win-win. I hope the federal budget announced soon focuses on addressing this issue.

15.01.2022 I may be young, but I'm not inexperienced. We need Councillors who are focused on delivering services and projects for the community, and focused on growing local jobs. Vote 1 Jay Morrison for Ballarat City Council North Ward.

15.01.2022 I'm serious about growing local jobs and putting Ballarat workers first. I have a jobs plan. We need to be investing locally in projects that create more local jobs. No-one should have to leave Ballarat to get a job, and Council needs to amend their procurement policy to put local workers and local businesses first. VOTE JAY FOR JOBS. VOTE 1 Jay Morrison Ballarat Council North Ward.

12.01.2022 Nominations have closed and the ballot has been drawn! My name is at the very top so it’s easier for you to find when looking where to put the 1! Today is a good day. Not only because of the ballot draw but I also put a silverside in the slow cooker for dinner and had leftover Indian for lunch. ... Hope your day is going as well as mine!

09.01.2022 I was meant to be letterboxing flyers today but I think I might stay inside where it’s warmer. Check out the snow falling!

09.01.2022 Young people stepped up this year to save Meals on Wheels across the country! What a great story in The Guardian. I’ve always thought of volunteering myself and contacted organisers locally when COVID hit to see if they needed help but about 40 Council staff were redeployed from their current jobs to assist so my help wasn’t needed. Locally the demand grew from 650 meals a week to over 1000. It’s such an important service and I hope I get the chance to volunteer one day.

08.01.2022 What have you got planned for the long weekend? Me? I’m about to jump in the car and go camping for the long weekend! But don’t spoil your plans - if you haven’t got your ballot paper in the post yet, drop it in before 6pm today to avoid the $83 fine. Australia Post is still doing a run today. If you haven’t received a ballot and need to vote still, call Lynne at 1300 106 031. Don’t leave it until the last minute. They’re doing a great job under the circumstances and will do... their best to help you. Also, I’m really proud to have been a part of the team below. We’ve worked really hard to put honesty, transparency, the community, and services at the forefront of this campaign. Despite a lot of deliberate misinformation being spread we got our message out - Council needs to be focused on the people of Ballarat! Here’s hoping we see a better balanced Council next term and a team that works together for the community.

07.01.2022 Just a quick break from Council politics. I've been working with a few others since January on launching a not-for-profit Ballarat Tool Library. This will be a huge asset to the community. We hope to open by the end of this year! We've just announced we're having a tool donation drive so I'd appreciate it if people could help us spread the word. Please share the post below and if you have tools you no longer use or need but would like to re-home, bring them along!

06.01.2022 Midlands Reserve is on the brink of a major refurb that we’ve been advocating for at the Committee for Ballarat North but we need your help! Please go give it the thumbs up here: https://mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au/midlands-reserve-revitali Oh and the amazing Cat Davis is interviewed by The Courier in the article below. Give it a read to find out more about our plans!

06.01.2022 I've been getting a few questions about how voting works, when it is etc. Ballots should arrive in the mail next week. Check out this super handy clip from the VEC for this info and more!

05.01.2022 Genuine consultation requires an ability for those that are consulted to be able to affect the outcome. We need council to do better. We need councillors who will listen to the community Read about why this is important, and how I'll support genuine community consultation in this post below

05.01.2022 There’s no jobs in manufacturing, Manufacturing is dead in Ballarat, why do you want to support it?, We don’t have local manufacturing. These are all things people have said to me over the past couple of months as I’ve been talking up my jobs plan for Ballarat. And I’m sorry but it’s just not true We have some great manufacturers in Ballarat. Meet Sandy below. Gekko is a real local success story and shows that we can be a real leader in manufacturing ... We can build things here. We can create jobs here. For us. For our kids. We cannot rely on global supplies chains anymore. But we need to ensure there’s support for manufacturing industry across local, state and federal governments Did you know Council has had millions of dollars to fund a rail intermodal system that’s been sitting there for around 6 years? This would go a huge way towards attracting new businesses into the Ballarat West Employment Zone There’s also plenty of opportunities in being a manufacturing leader in renewables I’m serious when I say I want to fight to protect and grow jobs in Ballarat. That’s why I want to be a councillor, to make sure we are doing everything we can for the working people of Ballarat VOTE 1 Jay Morrison for North Ward - Vote Jay for jobs!

04.01.2022 I've had a few people ask 'when will we know the election results?' Short answer: sometime next week. Longer (more interesting) answer is below... Due to COVID, ballots arriving in the mail dated before 24th Oct are being accepted right up until this Friday. They've broken up the ballot batches into Group A and Group B. ... Group A is all the ballots that have been received up until Friday last week - 22,729 of them (78.46% of total North Ward voters). They're being sorted and entered into the computer Wed/Thurs this week. This will give us a good indicator of first preferences but not distributions. It's unlikely we'll know who the three winners are based on first preferences alone. Group B is all the ballots received from yesterday up until Friday. They will be counted and entered into the computer sometime next week - days TBC by the VEC. So far 1843 of these have been returned - bringing it to 84.82% of total votes returned which is much higher than the 75.82% predicted return rate. 4398 votes are still out there (though it's unlikely every single person will return a ballot!). Once all the Group A and Group B ballots are entered into the computer system the Election Manager will hit the 'calculate' button and preferences will be distributed. This will give us the final, top 3 election winners! I'll have people there in the room to let me know the results and the results will then be publicly declared not long after that. So, we should know the results by the end of next week at the latest. Fingers crossed for me Thanks again for all of the support I've received from the community throughout this campaign - it was so wonderful to talk to so many community members about the future direction of Ballarat and our surrounding communities! Also, many thanks to the VEC staff who have done a fantastic job in very different and difficult circumstances in 2020.

03.01.2022 Hope this puts a smile on your face today like it did mine!
